“Core Values” Statement Open for Member Comment

The Council seeks member comment on a draft Statement of Core Values for Archivists through Oct. 15.  (See the Values Statement Task Force’s charge.)  Send comments to saahq@archivists.org or post them directly on the website!

Group Endorsements Due October 15

To endorse an ARCHIVES 360° session proposal, SAA board, committee, section, roundtable, or working group chairs/conveners should submit directly to the program co-chairs via email to conference@archivists.org -- by October 15 -- the following information: Session Title, Group Name, and Group Chair. Groups can endorse up to two session proposals. Endorsements are another factor in the Committee’s deliberations; they are not required and do not guarantee acceptance.

Suggest Revisions to EAD by February 28, 2011

Charged to undertake a revision of the Encoded Archival Description (EAD) standard, SAA’s Technical Subcommittee for Encoded Archival Description (TS-EAD) has issued a call for proposed changes to the current version, EAD 2002.  The subcommittee’s goal is to ensure the greatest possible input from EAD users around the world. The deadline for proposed changes is February 28, 2011.  For details on how to submit comments, the subcommittee’s timetable, and other considerations informing the revision, click here.

SAA Submits Comments on Proposed HIPAA Rules

At the recommendation of the Privacy & Confidentiality and Science, Technology & Health Care roundtables, the SAA Executive Committee approved comments on proposed changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Read SAA President Helen Tibbo’s September 13 letter here.

SAA Names 7 Fellows, Presents 17 Awards

SAA honored the accomplishments, innovations, and over-the-top efforts made by professionals in the archives field at a ceremony on August 13 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. Seven new Fellows were named and 17 awards were announced at ARCHIVES*RECORDS/DC 2010.
