Can NONE of these people get and hold a regular job!? Do they ALWAYS have to suck at the government’s tits all the while lambasting it – intent on its destruction. Isn’t that treasonous?
Dude must’ve slept through the last two administrations, eh? Drug cartels in Mexico?! Who knew the president of the United States was in charge of those fuckers. But like he says, he was raised in Arizona – he was “raised right.” Yeah, I’ll just bet you were, white boy.
It was the banner that caught my eye – ‘Worst Governor Ever.’ How many folks could that possibly refer? Butch? Jan Brewer? Rick Perry? Haley Barbour? Ah, geez…the list is sooo long.
But here – here, it is – and then we’ll discuss and bitch. The woman holding up the sign is Kathleen Gustafson of Homer, Alaska.
What immediately struck me was the overall tone of Palin. She’s not about substance so there’s this sing-songy cadence, cheer-leading stance she takes on. There was absolutely no interest in listening; it’s about hearing herself speak, inanely. Read more »
At the end of July, the president signed the Tribal Law & Order Act. The ceremony is indeed quite touching, especially the opening and introduction given by Lisa Marie Iyotte – member of the White Clay People (Rosebud Sioux, Lakota Ospaya).
One primary reason for such legislation was the violence Native American women suffer at a rate ranging from double that of the national average to up to 20 times the national average on some reservations.
According to a Department of Justice report, Native American women suffer from violent crime at a rate three and a half times greater than the national average. Astoundingly, one in three Native American women will be raped in their lifetimes (sic). At the White House Tribal Nations Conference in November 2009, President Obama stated that this shocking figure “is an assault on our national conscience that we can no longer ignore.”
…. The Act includes a strong emphasis on decreasing violence against women in Native communities, and is one of many steps this Administration strongly supports to address the challenges faced by Native women…..
However, the Act focuses not only on prosecution but also on prevention. It reauthorizes and improves programs to prevent and treat alcohol and substance abuse, as well as programs that improve opportunities for at-risk Indian youth. Getting men and boys involved in stopping the violence against women and girls is an important step to ending it everywhere, giving youth a chance to change their own futures.
Within the past 2-3 years I’ve become much more aware after watching Senator Dorgan grill some U.S. Attorneys on the crime statistics ‘out of Indian Country’ and why more wasn’t being done to solve crimes, etc. It began with watching meetings and hearings for the Indian Affairs committee on C-SPAN. Appearing as a stumbling block was Public Law 280 (PL-280), that transfer of “legal authority (jurisdiction) from the federal government to state governments which significantly changed the division of legal authority among tribal, federal, and state governments.” It’s cumbersome and complicated and it resulted in investigations that became cumbersome and complicated as well as some that were simply – nonexistent.
Happened to find this from Amnesty International’s blog, Human Rights Now. The poster of the blog entry, Larry Cox, was a guest at the signing. I cried just watching the video . . . .
I cannot believe this was even an issue, such as it is, like no one has moved beyond 3rd grade. Seriously?
Some of the women anchoring news shows on MSNBC debated whether the first lady was being “mean” to her husband by deserting him on his birthday for a girls’ getaway to Spain, and whether it was sort of sad, as one put it, that the president, drowning in troubles, had to go to Chicago to find friends (including Oprah) to celebrate with.
So someone – women, nonetheless – actually spent time discussing the First Lady’s ‘meanness’ level. Tell me something. Don’t married couples sometime spend time apart? Is it so hard to believe the Obamas actually have a fairly solid marriage and it’s not necessary to spend every waking moment with each other?
Jeezzus!
And WHEN did it become okay to examine every aspect of the First Lady’s life and work and diss it?
She seemed to be gigging her husband a bit: I’m going to do what I want to do. I can’t worry about whether it gives the Tea Partiers ammo or makes Democrats (including you) campaigning against the excesses of the rich look hypocritical. Even if the country is sliding into a double-dip recession, I’m going abroad to a five-star hotel on Air Force Two and give a boost to another country’s economy.
Some time ago a commenter – Larry Good (lw.good.24@gmail.com) – became so obsessed with proving me right or wrong, can’t remember which, that he became a goddamned nuisance. I don’t have time for such things nor am I willing to spend any time going around and around and around and around.
Sooo – those who are appearing here because you’ve been referred via Boise’s craigslist, this is what shows up to me when you visit my blog. And there’s more information available. (Update: It’s not shown on this particular screen shot, but the time, time zone, date, etc., are viewed on another screen.)
Jus’ so youse know. Ya wanna be an idiot, be it somewhere else because I’m not interested. FYI: This jackass isn’t even from Boise; he’s from Texas. Who goes to all the trouble to read a blog then go to the local craigslist and post something negative? An asshole with too much time apparently spent up their ass.

So you’ve been embarrassed throughout the media for being a sociopath, a scumbag, and an all-a-round asshole – now, what’s the best thing to do? Dig in your heels and DEFLECT.
As difficult as it probably was for her, it’s been difficult for me as well, especially to hear her hurl an accusation of racism at me, when my motivation is absolutely pure and is driven by a desire for this country to move beyond its horrid racist past.”
Hurl accusations of racism? I’m sorry. Isn’t that precisely what Breitbart did when he posted the obviously doctored tape of Ms Sherrod speaking before an audience, stating it was a glaring case of racism on her part in reportedly refusing to ‘go all out’ for a white farmer? Why her? How is it he latched onto Shirley Sherrod like a pit bull on an intruder’s arm? Motives….it’s all about motives.
In an interview with Newsweek Breitbart is asked: “How do you think this got so out of control?” He immediately goes to Ms Sherrod’s role and then talks about his intention of pointing out the NAACP’s apparent hypocrisy & the Democrats on ‘playing the race card.’ There’s no acknowledgment of the role the Republican party has played in race relations in this country in and certainly none regarding particular elements of the ‘Tea Party. ‘ Instead Breitbart conjures up his role as victim, stating: “As difficult as it probably was for her, it’s been difficult for me as well….”
The difficulty for Breitbart (if there is any indeed) has been brought about by his own self-serving motives. The difficulty for Ms Sherrod is that she has had a lifetime of difficulty, repeated over and over and over again. Breitbart doesn’t know what real, trying difficulty is about. I might have a bit smidgen of an idea; however, I can guarantee it’s not at the heightened level of Ms Sherrod’s. Read more »
The entire circus surrounding Shirley Sherrod is just shameful. From the self-enthralled scumbag Andrew Breitbart posting a doctored video online of Ms Sherrod’s speech on racial reconciliation (redemption) to the embarrassing response by the Dept. of Agriculture – not to mention jumping the sharp by the NAACP. All for false equivalency. Media Matters posted a time-line here.
During it all Ms Sherrod spoke to various media outlets about what transpired. One of the ‘stories’ she passed along regarding the torment her own family underwent throughout her childhood was the incident in which her relative (an uncle, I believe), Bobby Hall, was murdered by three police officers in Baker County, Georgia. Jeffrey Lord at the American Spectator got on his high horse and decided the story was falsified primarily based upon semantics surrounding the her use of the word ‘lynch.’ Read more »
Hell couldn’t be much hotter or muggier than today here. We don’t do humidity well here. It’s usually somewhere in the range of 8-12% during the heat of the day, increasing at night contributing to the coolness. It’ll have to storm to get rid of this godforsaken humidity!
The granddaughter went to the river with the dog – adventuring. Here’s one of her finds.
Tonight she’s coming over so Mom & Dad can go out. I’ll have her do the dishes, maybe Swiffer Jet the kitchen floor. God knows it’s too hot for me to do it!
During the course of running a few errands …. a bit of grocery shopping, mailing the check with traffic ticket from the Garden City police, I ran across several people begging. I don’t know what else to call it. Standing on a street corner with a handwritten cardboard sign with an explanation that “anything will help” isn’t my idea of a job. Truthfully it’s starting to bug the shit out of me and I’m not sure why.
First stop was Winco on Front Street. There’s usually someone there whenever I go just as there is at the Winco on Fairview. Today, the older gentleman at the exit leading to Front looked the vintage stereotype of a wino. Then I was on an apparent aimless mission to buy stamps from the USPS and ended up at Ustick & Cole USPS where I saw these two women.
One woman was on the northeast corner of Ustick – looking east down Ustick – with a piece of cardboard that read, “just lost job. single mom of 3. anything will help.” She was mouthing ‘please’ at the car in front of me.
Directly across the street was another woman on the northwest corner, facing north towards Northview with a similar sign. In the space of a 5-10 minutes, the time it took me to go into the postal office & purchase stamps from the machine, they had switched to the southern corners. Read more »
