neighborhood (n.) (prouncounced NAY-buh-hud): the section and areas adjacent to where one sits in the Sacredome for Saints games. Sacredome neighborhoods have their own distinct cultures and casts of characters. They also have leaders, who act like precinct captains and mediate disputes among residents and perform liaison work with ushers and security personnel. NOTE: The Saints inadvertently destroyed many neighborhoods when they built a new press box and displaced 1,200 fans this season. This destruction was analogous to the construction of the I-10 expressway over Claiborne Avenue in the 1960s. I was lucky to avoid displacement from section 635, but Chef Who Dat and the Cafe 641 were displaced all over the Dome, with Chef and Mrs. Who Dat now sitting in section 649.

Ugly
It was Jospeh Addison who said
"Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week."
Today was a Thursday. The rust was everywhere. The defense was blasting it off. The offense had some nice spots. This really played like a preseason game. Timings not present. Great QB throws. WRs just steps behind. Routes broken off early at times.
Rust.
I guess Sterling Silver doesn't rust so easily. This was one of 16. After a great start, everyone realized it was the first of the 1 of 16. "Good win," said Scratch, "I just got used to eating up those 40point burgers."
No 40 points tonight even on the over under.

Getting Warmed Up
The man never said no.
Katie Couric: So many hopes and dreams attached to this Super Bowl visit and being in the Super Bowl. What if the Saints don't win? I hate to be Debbie Downer here, but that is a possibility? I feel like the whole city is so invested in winning the Super Bowl.
Drew Brees: I feel like we have fate and destiny on our side. And we have not only the strength of the city and the community but I feel like an entire country. There's a piece of everybody that wants to see us win the Super Bowl. And I promise you that there is no other city, community, or people that deserve it more than the city of New Orleans.
Watch Drew Brees' face as this reporter asks the unthinkable........
How composed his answer!
What is going through his head -?
Tell me

WASHINGTON = the empty set
The Redskins have been trying corporate solutions. Buying the best stadium....Buying the best free agents........
Somebody should explain about why the Yankees cannot win the World Series every year.
Heart is required of winners.
Idealism is needed to be a champion.
Washington politicians are equally at a loss of common sense.
I voted for Mr. Obama.
I made a mistake.
On July 4, I got this self-oriented gem:
Mr. Obama,
I am hurt by your message about yourself and your family. With the oil now in Lake Pontchartrain, my family is at a loss. This lack of touch with people is disheartening, discouraging, and down right wrong for the leader of a nation such as ours. If this catastrophe was nuclear (chernobyl)- we wouldn't be hearing about Entergy being responsible and a detached govt response. If this catastrophe was chemical (bhopal)- we wouldn't be hearing about Dow Chemical being responsible and an invisible govt response.
This is OUR country.
These are American lives. This is the job of those who represent us.
Let me know how I can help.
I ASK ALL PEOPLE OF CONSCIENCE TO CALL UPON OUR PRESIDENT TO ACT.
Rhetoric is not good enough.
The oil is not going away.
The quote, "I will not rest until that hole is plugged." is embarrassing.

On July 4, I got this self-oriented gem:
The Fourth of July is especially dear to my family. For us, it is not just our nation's birthday. It is the day Michelle and I became parents 12 years ago. And I can't wait to watch the fireworks with Malia on her birthday tonight, as we do every year.I replied:
As we celebrate the profound pride of being American, today is a time to honor the women and men in our armed forces, whose immeasurable bravery and sacrifice have made our country what it is today.
That sacrifice is shared with husbands and wives, with sons and daughters, with fathers and mothers, who are asked to wait at home as their loved ones protect our nation. Their heroism, too, has helped pave the path of our freedom.
Even before we moved into the White House, Michelle was a champion for those military families. She has witnessed their struggles, and she has made it her personal mission to fight for them. On this Fourth of July, she recorded a personal message, commemorating our nation's birthday and paying tribute to these families.
Please take a minute to watch Michelle's video -- and join us as we honor our military families here and abroad:

From all of us, happy Independence Day.
Thank you, and may God bless America.

Nungesser must be the Problem
The Washington Examiner says:
“In some instances, it appears that equipment is provided simply to quiet public criticism. Mr. Nungesser, who has frequently appeared on local and national television, was apparently visited by two White House officials at his office on Fathers’ Day. According to Mr. Nungesser, the purpose of their visit was to find a way to keep him from calling attention to the lack of equipment. Specifically, they asked him, “What do we have to do to keep you off tv?” He simply replied, “give me what I need.” On another occasion, Plaquemines Parish officials requested 20 skimmers at a town hall meeting held by the Coast Guard. According to Mr. Nungesser, “They gave us two skimmers to shut us up.” These accounts raise serious questions about whether the Administration is more concerned with fighting a public relations battle than combating the oil spill.”
