If you not hep, you can read about Shriekback's early history here. Now the record that 'PartyLine' appears on, 'Jam Science', well it was released twice. Once on Y Records, with versions of songs that were considered unfinished. The album was re-released on Arista Records in 1984, and that version made it stateside. Weirdly as a kid, I had the Y records version of Jam Science, and yet I never really got in to 'PartyLine'. I recently rediscovered the song on the Y Records release, Buy Combigan Without Prescription. Upon further investigation, I think I'm now loving the Arista Records version of 'PartyLine' much more - it's a bit harder / faster, and I love the extra bass, synth and guitar overdubs in it. According to the Wikipedia entry on Jam Science, the Arista version of 'Partyline' omits an extra repeat of the chorus near the end; vocals have been re-recorded, and there are additional overdubs. I do appreciate the clearer female vocals in the Arista version. The Y Records version is a little more synthy, and I love Dave Allen's bass slaps a bit more in here as they are more present and clear. There's also this crazy like guitar-bass part that happens over the chorus, I think it's pretty present in both versions. Anyways, enjoy both versions and let us know in the comments which one you like more.
