What they're saying:
[T]he Bobcats are a team in desperate need of point guard help. Right now they have D.J. Augustin who's unproven, Livingston who's still nearly crippled after a horrific injury and Collins, a mediocre rookie. If [Crittenton] couldn't make it there, it's either the baggage, the talent or a combination of the two.

Washington Wizards Regress For A Night
by Sean Fagan on Oct 15, 2010 12:46 PM EDT
in Recaps
For two quarters the Washington Wizards played some of their best basketball of the preseason. The ball was moving, players were communicating, and the team had forced the Bucks into playing a wide open, up and down style which doesn't suit their personnel. For three glorious minutes of the first half Gilbert Arenas was at the center of the mayhem, more active on both ends of the floor than we have seen all preseason, until fate or karma struck him down with a groin strain.
The second half was a different story altogether. Where there had once been ball movement, there was none. Instead of flying up and down the court, the Wizards were trapped into playing the slog it down half court game which Milwaukee prefers and broke down on offense completely. There were vivid flashbacks to last year, with the shot clock winding down and many a Wizards player forced to take a long two or three with only a couple tics left. Things ground so utterly to a halt that John Wall was forced into doing his best Earl Boykins impression, pounding the ball at the top of the key and hoping that someone/anyone would get around to moving on offense.
So yeah, the second half left a little bit to be desired. But what exactly went wrong?

2009-10 Record: 26-56
Losses: Mike Miller and his pet monkey, Randy Foye and his 20-foot jump shot, Shaun Livingston and his magic, James Singleton and his charm, Fabricio Oberto and his hair, Earl Boykins and his strong biceps, Quinton Ross and his ... oh, I don't know.
Additions: Kirk Hinrich, Kevin Seraphin, Trevor Booker, Yi Jianlian, Hilton Armstrong and some guy named John Wall.

Washington Wizards: 'Selfish' Basketball Contributes to the Second Loss of the Preseason

2 days ago: Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings (3) is guarded by Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas (9) during the first quarter of an NBA preseason basketball game in Washington, on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010. Arenas pulled a groin muscle in the first quarter and sat out the rest of the game, which the Wizards lost 88-96. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)
Yes the Wizards were sloppy, they had 22 turnovers and committed 32 personal fouls which enabled the Bucks to take 43 attempts at the foul line. They also fell back into the old habit of relying much too often on ill-advised jumpers. The Wizards put up 84 shots, 19 from beyond the 3 pt line, but managed only 22 foul shots - evidence of a team who is relying much too heavily on its jump-shot rather than driving to the basket. A fact acknowledged by Flip Saunders who said this:
"Our bigs are basically trying to play too much perimeter. That's something we have got to clean up. We got to have a thrust inside. They keep on popping out, popping out. That just isn't going to work. We got to have more of a presence in the paint."
The lack of a presence in the paint translated into lower percentage shots and fewer free throw attempts. And the problem was further exacerbated by a frigid night at the foul line as the Wizards made only 50% of their free throw attempts (11/22). And on a night when the game was decided by 8 points, a poor night at the line, can and did make a significant impact on the game.
Wizards Fall To Bucks 96-88

A game that started with such promise fell apart in the second half as the Wizards offense broke down.
And Drew Gooden had 25 points! Drew Gooden!
CJ and I will have a proper recap up in a little bit. Until then use this thread to talk about Andray's propensity to jack ill-advised threes.
