Toshiko Mori Interview in Entorno

Entorno, the magazine published by the Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas, Puerto Rico (link), features an interview with architect Toshiko Mori that I did in New York (see p. 19). Our talk runs the gamut, from her early years of work under the mentorship of E.L. Barnes to her critera for intervention in masterworks. Also in the issue, an interview with former Bogotá mayor Enrique Peñalosa, credited with transforming his city into a livable metropolis using innovative strategies and citizen involvement. Chang-Lin Tien Center Billboard 1

Many of us that know the work of New York detailists and minimalists Todd Williams and Billie Tsien are a bit surprised by this prominent building that is now under construction at UC Berkeley. Red Roof Inn.

well... I have no idea where or what this is, but they are great. These things look like some past-future fusion... a primitive hut or a future war bunker. Seems better than any blobitechture I have seen built.

MIT students build responsive structure for skyscrapers

Team designs 35-foot smart structure that moves. Winner of MIT's first mini-skyscraper design competition, "Muscles" is the brainchild of four graduate students. In a full-scale tower, such active structural components would be used to cancel out movement and stabilize a tall structure against changing forces from wind or earthquakes.

MARK Magazine, on Primi Suarez...and more

BERJAYA
A new MARK Magazine is out now!! --number 2, that is. Check it out for a brief article I wrote on artist Primitivo Suarez, also interviewed previously on Archinect. Suarez is best known for vertiginous and seductive sculptures/installations that riff on notions of domesticity.

I'm currently starting work on a new piece for MARK 5; stay tuned.

Last but not least... finishing touches are going down on an interview with Toshiko Mori for Entorno, Puerto Rico.

Jalisco Library proposal stacks discarded airplane fuselages

BERJAYA
Over 200 Boeing 727 and 737 fuselages are stacked in a north-south slant in relation to sun exposure for energy efficiency. Two shifts in the direction of the main axis of the fuselages generate two large open spaces within the stack. The design did not win the competition but the idea has "tons" of potential!

Red rain in India may contain alien biology

BERJAYA
Almost sounds biblical... a red rain fell over Kerala, India, for two months in 2001. Now some researchers are saying that this is no ordinary red rain...it is an alien red rain containing bacteria swept up from a comet.
