Since the New Deal, Republicans have been on the wrong side of every issue of concern
to ordinary Americans; Social Security, the war in Vietnam, equal rights,
civil liberties, church- state separation, consumer issues, public education, reproductive
freedom, national health care, labor issues, gun policy, campaign-finance
reform, the environment and tax fairness. No political party could remain so consistently wrong by accident. The only rational conclusion is that, despite their cynical "family values" propaganda, the Republican Party is a criminal conspiracy to betray the interests of the American people in favor of plutocratic and corporate interests, and absolutist religious groups. |

It was bound to happen that, in a party of morons, religious kooks,
sociopaths and criminals, the lunatics have finally seized control of the
asylum. The junior senator from South Carolina has begun issuing proclamations independent of the official Senate Republican leadership and ignoring the rigid party discipline that has empowered Republicans for a generation. For instance, DeMint publicized less-than- enthusiastic support for Tea Party candidates expressed in closed-door GOP meetings, and he has recently announced plans to block all legislation "not cleared by his office." DeMint's many fringe positions (such as that gays and unmarried pregnant women should not be allowed to teach in public schools) and financial backing of Tea Party candidates has made him wildly popular among the far right, and he obviously anticipates making his GOP Senate leadership "official" in the next Congress. |
