President Barack Obama claimed a stronger hand on the world stage Friday despite his failure to get a free-trade agreement with South Korea and lackluster international support for his get-tough policy with China on trade and currency disputes at the G20 Summit in Seoul.

• White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod said President Obama would accept an extension of the Bush tax cuts across the board — for middle- and upper-income earners alike. Axelrod indicated that the upper income extension would only be temporary.

• U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s campaign on Thursday accused observers for rival Joe Miller of making petty challenges in the counting of voters’ write-in ballots in an attempt to tilt the Alaska Senate race in their favor.

The grueling three-day journey of the crippled Carnival Splendor is over, and the nearly 4,500 passengers and crew members can forget about the backed-up toilets, darkened, stuffy cabins and the canned meat. All of the passengers are safely back on land after docking in San Diego yesterday morning.
