This website is not associated with the "Walk FOR the Fallen." That is an entirely different effort, which I applaud. But this memorial Labyrinth "The Walk OF the Fallen" was built in 2003 and is a separate entity.

63 Days Short – THIS is a School Board Member??!

Read it and weep, the man who posted this on Facebook IS in charge of educational matters, this was his response to “Spirit Day” noting the suicide of teenagers who were harassed for perceived ‘gayness.’

“Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers committed suicide. The only way I’m wearin’ it for them is if they all commit suicide,” McCance said, in one of the most ugly outbursts in recent memory. “I can’t believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed themselves because of their sin.”

Clint McCance is an ASSHOLE who shouldn’t be anywhere NEAR educational decisions, let alone a school board member, even in Alabama. He stated that all gay teens should get AIDS and die. Oh….for a good mirror to shine his wishes back upon him!

64 Days Short – Military Mailing Woes

First off, let me say to whichever scuzzball stole the package with my military son’s laptop computer: “Fuck you very much, I hope you die in a fire.” I mean, really, what kind of scummy person STEALS from troops in a war zone?

Second to the very unhelpful USPS, which charged me for “delivery confirmation” along with the $40 insurance fee, even though they say “Once it is in the hands of the APO, we can’t track it at all.” and told me to wait 45 days to file on the insurance…..you SUCK! Your customer service is minimal and you don’t even try to be helpful, you act as if customers are a pain in your ass—-and that attitude likely has much to do with your financial woes since anyone who CAN use UPS or Fed EX instead will do so!

Third, thanks to an email friend who sent me two new addresses that might get me more satisfaction (aside from cursing presumed thief, that is—an operation for my afternoon delectation):

dapostal@us.army.mil
and
DAPostal@conus.army.mil

So, if YOUR service member is not getting mail, give ‘em some fresh hell!

And fourth, I have decided when I reach the ‘only two months left’ stage before the closing of this blog, I will re-open comments. Instead of angsting over obnoxious comments, I will lose my inner pit bull upon them quite publicly. Instead of cringing from shockingly insensitive posts, I will simply not authorize them to offend whatever is left of the viewing public. So around Nov 1, I WILL re-enable comments.

That way, the few who read here can say goodbye. I appreciate greatly those whom have stayed for the ride. But this pony is tired, tired, tired.

65 Days Short – Seriously Funny, But Sadly Probable

Hat-tip to One Pissed Off Veteran! Gloriously funny, until you think that some of it is not totally unlikely.

66 Days Short – The Iceman Cometh

No, not the guy they dug up in the mountains of Italy. The Immigration guy who sends non-citizen veterans out of the country. It is called ‘icing’ and the vets have no appeal. And yes, before your brain goes on auto-deal and snaps “Well, they only get deported if they break the law; they shouldn’t fuck up!” ….let me ask you a couple things?

Have you ever got a speeding ticket?
Have you not paid a parking ticket?
Have you got caught using marijuana at some time in your life?
Did you ever get rowdy at a bar while drunk?

Are you really telling me that the above offenses are sufficient to throw a person out of the country he most likely grew up in—cause yes, some of these guys came here as children and know no other country. They served with honor and dedication, and sometimes with great valor.
And now they are being “iced”..…Lady Justice needs her blindfold to hide her shame again.

Not Short Enough – Thuggery Abounds

Hattip to Alternate Brain. Apparently, Rand Paul’s supporters are of the “If you aren’t with us, you are against us.” stripe….when a MoveOn activist approached him, she was dragged to the ground and stomped into place to keep her down.

Keep it assy classy, you thuggish bastards, right?

Somebody take me drunk, please; this yellow brick road doesn’t lead me home.

Motherhood Sucks

170px-Blue_Star_Service_Banner.svg

Blue Star hell, that’s what today is. My first email was from my son in Afghanistan. That’s good, right—means he is alive and well? Well….

He wrote to say he re-enlisted. This was not a surprise; he had said he would be doing so. But his last plan was to re-up for combat photo-journalist, something a family of photographers could understand.

But today, he re-enlisted to be a Forward Observer.

Can I have my coma now?

68 Days Short – Jera

The rune meaning “year” has significance for me this week; for on Saturday we drew my ritual year to a close. And from now until Yule, and yes, January 1st, I have to consider carefully and make choices about how my new year will proceed.

I incorporate the concept of a “fallow” period into my annual observances—a time of stepping back and looking deeply into how I am running my life. I consider the cycles of my life, I observes the seasons of nature and do my level best to see that they match congruently.

What should the next year of American life include? Elections are drawing near—what changes would enhance the life of the nation? Peace? Caution? Rebuilding? Planning your next year might be better done in slow consideration rather than drunken “resolutions” made on a single night. And yes, I am feeling very “Deutscher ordnung” this morning! This completes the runic series. Happy New Year!

69 Days Short (or thereabouts) – Wunjo

The days are nearly as dark as night here, as heavy rain clouds have shrouded the area for the last three days. And so, I consider the rune “wunjo”, the emblem of joy and happiness; and conversely the sigil of sorrow and suffering in it’s shadow aspect.

The rainy weather is perfect for such meditations; my house is secure and dry and warm and filled with family and holiday visiting friends: the very picture of contentment and happiness. I feel blessed indeed.

But so many of my fellow Americans are struggling miserably with loss and joblessness; uncertainty and suffering actively laying siege to their very lives! And that makes me feel humble. So, today, this rune reminds me that we should not view the sorrows around us as just things NOT happening to us; but problems to be actively addressed.

Keep your hearts and wallets open to help those you can help….in ways small and large; whether with work, words, or cash! And I give you the immortal reminder of Pink Floyd:

Samhain 2010

BERJAYA

The ritual year is ended. The names of the past year were read and whiskey burned in a blue glow that perfumed the air with memories. The counting beads have been carried inside with song, to be safe from the winter frosts.

Blessings of the winter season, and rest and peace unto you.

Suicide Saturday

Suicide lights
September was a terrible month, and the signs are it is going to get worse before it gets better, so the numbers for October likely are not good. The Army data for last month:

The Army released suicide data today for the month of September. Among active-duty soldiers, there were 18 potential suicides: none have been confirmed as suicides, and all 18 remain under investigation. For August, the Army reported 13 potential suicides among active-duty soldiers. Since the release of that report, seven have been confirmed as suicides, and six remain under investigation.

During September 2010, among reserve component soldiers who were not on active duty, there were eight potential suicides. For August, among that same group, there were 11 total suicides. Of those, four were confirmed as suicides and seven are pending determination of the manner of death.

Finding names and the stories of despair and death don’t get easier, and are hard to read. But I beg you to care, to share the sorrow of shattered families like that of Armando G. Aguilar Jr and Rueben Paul Santos.

Because if people like you, dear readers, don’t keep the pressure on, the VA will revert to a policy characterized as ” ‘Don’t look, don’t find,” Sometimes, I think the VA really just wishes all the damaged vets would just “die already.” Only your voices, loud and persistent, can stop the “ignore them till they go away and die” habits of the Veterans’ Adversary!
