At a town hall promoting his Senate campaign last night, GOP senatorial candidate Joe Miller — aka “Mr. Noun, Verb, and Unconstitutional” — proposed making his own race for the Senate unconstitutional:
Miller often returned to the idea of restricting the federal government to only powers allowed by the Constitution. He called the idea of a living, changing Constitution “bullcrap,” and said he would support an amendment for term limits as well as an amendment repealing the 17th Amendment, which allows for the direct election of senators by the public rather than by state legislatures.

The amendment process is what makes it a living, changing document. So he hates that, yet he wants to do that.
Yes, he’s 100% Tea Bagger.

Mr. Noun, Verb, and Nutcase. lol Cocoa Puffs Miller is a gift that keeps on giving. Will Miller’s say that his own farm subsidies are unconstitutional?
October 5th, 2010 at 4:34 pmI can also see why Murkowski is so livid that she lost to this guy and wants to stage a write-in campaign. Heck, I may even send her some money.

Miller better hope Sarah Palin is paying out angle dust to voters in Alaska to get votes for Miller. Miller is a piece of work and full of it. He is a parttime lawyer with a wife and 8 kids to support. He get Alaska citizens check, Federal Funds for low income families and even hired/fired his wife who worked for him so she could collect unemployment checks. Miller is in need of an income to support his Family and nickel/diming it isn’t working so he will hope to be a Senator to get rich like Uncle Ted did. Sarah is just looking for handouts from anyone stupid enough to pay. Notice how Miller had no complaints when his wife was getting her unemployment checks. Looks like Levi is brighter then both Palin and Miller and could be the next town Mayor.
October 5th, 2010 at 4:35 pmThe repeal of the 17th amendment crowd believes that it would result in more Republican seats. Repeal would mean that the billionaires could go around and buy the state legislatures where the laws are weaker and the price is cheaper. It is cheaper to buy a legislature than to run an election campaign.
October 5th, 2010 at 4:35 pmJoe Miller is unconstitutional.

Fortunately for himself he’s also a hypocrite. He thinks unemployment insurance is unconstitutional, but his wife was on it. He thinks agricultural subsidies are unconstitutional–but he accepted them.

October 5th, 2010 at 4:47 pmAs was recently pointed out by Retiring Supreme Court Justice Stevens….
The Preamble to the CONSTITUTION says…
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a MORE perfect Union,…
Not Perfect…MORE Perfect!
This requires treating the Constitution as a LIVING Document…NOT a FOSSIL like Joe Miller and Judge Scalia would have us believe.

you are right, the great plague “THE STUPID” has swept across America devastating everything in its way. Normal people have been struck down with “THE STUPID” and all of sudden will go out and vote for the dumbest people they can find. So far it seems to only to effect white people, and hopefully a cure will be found by Nov.
The country holds its collective breath, that THE STUPID can be stopped before it infests all humankind in a America.
October 5th, 2010 at 4:51 pmWhen Miller made the laughable claims that …
nothing funny about it, ian…
these people are scary serious.
October 5th, 2010 at 4:51 pmAlaska blogger and Lisa Murkowski supporter Andrew Halcro wrote about Miller:
October 4, 2010: According to sources, a few years back, a judicial magistrate hired his wife in violaton of nepotism rules. He had to fire his wife, who then went on to claim unemployment benefits.
A few years later the judicial magistrate, now a U.S. Senate candidate stated on national television that unemployment benefits were unconstitutional.
And that story hasn’t even come out in public yet.
Such goes the rumored life of one Joe Miller. If he’s not blaming mis-tweets on his staff, he’s having to answer questions about why he applied for a low income benefit when he wasn’t low income, or now being identified as the lawyer who tried to stop the troopergate investigation.
Taking advantage of the state’s safety net is bad enough, but then saying there should be no safety nets, well Joe that’s just plain hypocritical. And getting spanked in court the way you did for trying to hijack the troopergate investigation?
Geez, I thought your campaign ads touted the fact you had mastered the law.

October 5th, 2010 at 4:51 pmOK. I get that, at the time, there were some good reasons for the appointment of Senators and for the Electoral College. Many of the problems being due to lack of information dissemination (and lack of even a method of disseminating that info) and problems in verifying a vote of isolated populations in a timely manner.
(Not to mention, outmoded ideas about the nobility of the legislators may be a less noble reason used to keep certain people in power).
But can you imagine the uproar if today the vote were to be taken away from the people ?
And, if so, why would anyone vote for someone who wants to take away their vote ??????
Aren’t the Tea Baggers, as a main impetus, decrying the lack of accountability of those elected to those who elected them (that is ignoring that many seem to be elected by corporations)?????

He claims he supported his family on $8200/year — yet he was able to travel from New Haven to Anchorage to see his family?
Is this when he applied for a hunting/fishing license at reduced rates for the poor?

AK-SEN: Trouble in teabagger paradise
by Joan McCarter
Tue Oct 05, 2010 at 02:16:04 PM PDT
The Mudflats has a barn-burner story on Sarah Palin’s presidential plans, Joe Miller’s diss of Sarah Palin’s candidacy, and a major rift in the Clampett clan Palin royal court.
[I]nternal emails obtained by The Mudflats provide the most conclusive evidence to date that Palin will be running for president, and also indicate a behind-the-scenes rift between the Palins and an Alaskan candidate that they have both publicly endorsed.
An irate email written by Todd Palin seems to confirm his wife’s presidential ambition, and revealed his anger at Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller. The email demands that the treasurer of SarahPAC, Tim Crawford, “hold off on any letter of support for Joe,” and came on the heels of an interview Miller gave to Neil Cavuto on Fox News Sunday.
October 5th, 2010 at 5:22 pm“When Miller made the laughable claims that Social Security, Medicare, the federal minimum wage, and unemployment benefits violate the Constitution, he simply proclaimed that the Constitution must be read to eliminate laws he personally disapproves of.”
This is why we have a Judicial Branch, and a Supreme Court that is tasked with determining what the law is (i.e. what it means), not random people in the street who gosh darn it are so darn *mad* at the way things are being done in this country.
It’s too bad that miller doesn’t like the way the constitution has been interpreted over the years. But it’s not his call to determine whether something is unconstitutional, and it wouldn’t be his call if he were a senator. It wouldn’t even be his call alone if he somehow made it to the supreme court.
It never ceases to amaze me that tea partiers seem to feel that they have a constitutional right to dictatorship over those they disagree with. And they’re generally too uneducated to have ever read the actual process in the constitution. I guess “I want my country back” is a better sound bite than “My edjucashun fayld me”.

She now refuses to use her Facebook page to endorse Miller.

October 5th, 2010 at 5:33 pmwas awarded the Bronze Star for his leadership in combat
from wiki. This means he got it for service, not for valor in combat…..He’s no effing hero, just a Lieutenant who is probably lucky he didn’t get fragged in Kuwait.

You should have stopped with the fact you dont THINK. We all KNOW you are far too stupid to think and you would have made your first demonstrably TRUE statement in your posting history.
You ridiculed the idea, more accuratly the ABSOLUTE FACT that Islam is an Abrahamic religion. Allah IS the Jehovah of the Old Testament PERIOD. There is no dispute among knowledgeable people about this
October 5th, 2010 at 5:35 pmHere’s an interesting question.
Army Officers, especially West Point graduates, are expected to serve six years on active duty. His bio states that he went off active duty in 92, four years into his stint, then spent the last two on reserve. What did he f**k up, that they essentially let him depart early. Must have been some sort of military misfit.

October 5th, 2010 at 5:41 pmAnd in a surprise move, Joe Miller shouts “April Fools!. I just wanted Murkowski out of there. Come on, no one could be that craz… oops, I forgot about Shelly in MN. Sorry.”
October 5th, 2010 at 5:42 pmDon’t laugh. Bachmann is well respected for her analyses of legislative issues and wins her elections in a not-exactly-red-state.
BWAHAHAHAHA. Now THAT is funny!

You are even more f0ked up than your boyfriend the Mambo Queen.
Go ask the child molester defender Mark Koldys what you could face for even “joking” about this.
October 5th, 2010 at 5:47 pmThe sad fact is that, due in large part to the local media’s complicity, Crazy Shelly will be elected again. In fact, I find myself wishing that some of these other freaks do get elected just so that they can challenge her title as the stupidest/craziest federal office holder.
October 5th, 2010 at 5:52 pmSeemed like a pointless question.
Then why do you suppose Joe Miller thinks it is Unconstitutional?
October 5th, 2010 at 5:58 pmfrom the http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/2-34ar.htm
The 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor participated in Operation Desert Saber from 24 to 28 February 1991, organized as a balanced task force breached Iraqi border defenses and cleared the way for VII Corps to enter Iraq. On the night of 26-27 February 1991 the task force attacked and destroyed 2 reinforced battalions of the Republican Guard’s Tawakalna Division without a single friendly casualty.
These are the armored units who smashed thru the lightly defended Iraqi border and squashed, buried and generally ripped the poorly trained Iraqi defense forces to shreds.
October 5th, 2010 at 6:01 pmThat said, I doubt they would give any Bronze stars for valor, since they didn’t take a single casualty.
P.S. My brother in law happened to be in the same unit, and he said it was a cakewalk. The Iraqis gave up at the first sound of the tanks rolling at them.
October 5th, 2010 at 6:02 pm#145 RUCerious
That’s exactly the kind of thing I was referring tro earlier — who vets these candidates – their stories are all full of holes from Miller to O’Donnell (who claims she was privy to classified information).
October 5th, 2010 at 6:21 pmIf the American people were counted on to research who they vote for, I would not be so worried that some of the most inept, unprepared, racist, bigoted, extremists could be a force within our Congress.
Don’t laugh. Bachmann is well respected for her analyses of legislative issues and wins her elections in a not-exactly-red-state.
“Death panels.”
‘Nuff said, about dimwit Bachmann.
October 5th, 2010 at 6:27 pmSo many troll comments were just removed. It actually concerns me a little, because the future will lose some documentation of just how vile conservatives have become.
Of course, there are plenty of other media that are recording the wingnuttery, but, despite how much I loathe the modern American conservative, part of me wants the world to see their filth forever.
October 5th, 2010 at 7:02 pm“..the electorate of its right to vote in Senate races.”
That’s bull crap.
There is no right to vote in Senate races. There is an amendment to the Constitution which permits – but that is distinct from a “right.”
I’ve long said to repeal the 17th amendment.
Senators were designed to directly represent the interest of the states in Congress, not the people.
The people are directly represented in Congress by the House of representatives. Hence the term ‘bicameral.’ (For those of you who slept in gub’mint school, google it.)
I agree with Joe Miller on this one.
October 5th, 2010 at 8:53 pmLocomotiveMORON
My GOD you are stupid. An amendment becomes part OF the Constitution. If the constitution changes to give you the right to do something which is what saying things will be done this way IS then it IS your right you ignorant brainwashed MORON. So YES IT IS A RIGHT. Saying you want to repeal it, to make things LESS democratic and more autocratic then you are trying to take that right away. GOD you are stupid
October 5th, 2010 at 9:32 pm“The people are directly represented in Congress by the House of representatives. Hence the term ‘bicameral.”
Thats not what the term means. Bicameral only means that there are two government houses. And you use the same electoral system in your Representative elections as you do to elect your Senators.

October 6th, 2010 at 8:44 amYOU MUST NOT MISS IT!!
I wonder if this genius – or any of his benighted defenders on this board – is aware that the Bill of Rights is not part of the original Constitution but – GASP! – a series of amendments? So I suppose he believes the Bill of Rights of should be repealed?
And locomotivebreath, please stop making a public display of your complete ignorance of American government. You apparently were the first one asleep in your classes…
October 6th, 2010 at 9:44 amAnd don’t forget, the power to purchase new territories was not explicitly spelled out in the Constitution either, so does that mean Alaska should be given back to Russia? Along with all of the states formed out of the Louisiana Purchase?
If the Constitution is not a living document, does he want to take back the vote from women?
Do these idiots really want to strictly interpret the Constitution? What a Pandora’s Box
October 6th, 2010 at 10:58 amIan Millhiser says that the 17th amendment “allows for the direct election of senators by the public rather than by state legislatures”. This is factually inaccurate. The 17th amendment does not “allow” it. The 17th amendment REQUIRES it. This is not an insignificant distinction. Article 1, Section 3 of the constitution says – “The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, CHOSEN BY THE LEGISLATURE THEREOF…” This, therefore left the method of choosing a Senator to the state legislatures and if they so desired, they were free (i.e. “allowed”) under the constitution, as it existed, to do so via a public/general election. In fact, prior to the 17th amendment, that is precisely how some state governments chose their senators. So, In establishing the 17th amendment, a power which had previously been reserved to the states and which “allowed” them to chose the method for selecting senators, which each state felt worked best for them. was removed.
Now – one can argue whether that was a good or a bad thing. I happen to think that is was a bad thing. But whether you agree or not, let’s at least conduct the debate on factual grounds.
October 6th, 2010 at 2:05 pm@btalbert2000
“And don’t forget, the power to purchase new territories was not explicitly spelled out in the Constitution either…”
No it wasn’t and isn’t. Which is why the Federalists opposed the Louisiana Purchase and why they called Jefferson a hypocrite. Which criticism, by the way, Jefferson may well have avoided, if had he called for a constitutional amendment authorizing the federal government to acquire such territory and to establish a means for creating states out of the acquired land and bringing them into the union.
As for your, “Should we give it back?”, question. Some things, once done, cannot be undone. This is why, as part of their sentence, we don’t tell murderers to “give back” the life they took but we make robbers to give back the money they stole. And this is why it is one thing to declare that you believe something to be unconstitutional and quite another to declare what you would do about it after the constitution has been violated.
October 6th, 2010 at 2:07 pmHow did I miss that Joe Miller got farm subsidies for his property in Kansas while he was living in Connecticut and Alaska?
