“My administration is doing everything we can to make gasoline more affordable. … I applaud the House for passing a good energy bill.”
– President Bush, 4/28/05
“An energy bill wouldn’t change the price at the pump today. I know that and you know that. … I wish I could simply wave a magic wand and lower gas prices tomorrow.”
– President Bush, 4/20/05
Holding hands, looking longingly into the Crown Princes' eyes, and even a kiss on the lips couldn't do it . Now he wants to use his big magic wand on the prince? Thuper!
April 28th, 2005 at 9:16 pmI was a bit disappointed, though not really surprised, that no one in the press conference asked about drawing down from the strategic oil reserve to ease near-term supply concerns... seems like that could be the President's "magic wand"
April 29th, 2005 at 8:59 amThe boy's going to get whiplash talking like that. Don't you understand? He's doing EVERYTHING he can! Oh yeah, in Bushworld everything means nothing.
April 29th, 2005 at 12:23 pmTwo thirds of US oil consumption is related to
April 29th, 2005 at 1:07 pmtransportation. We are the largest consumers
of oil in the world. Why can't we put a lid on consumption. US had no conservation policy. US
solution is to produce more - give everyone a Hummer.
Will the media ever come clean? This administration is dividing to conquer. Take from the poor to give to the rich is a (fresh?) look at fixing social security, sounds like another Roveish line of bull. Wake up america !
April 29th, 2005 at 1:22 pmLook what the pig engler did to MI, nothing left to give away, his buddies already have it for a couple $. So Mr. Bush be honest just 2000 acres of our most precious land, THEN a free for all as usual? Off the Florida coast maybe. Why would oil men want alternatives to oil? What do we do with nuke waste? Still don't know what to do with it now.
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! NOW
In 2000 7% of crude oil production from the Alaska North Slope (ANS) was exported to South Korea, Japan, and China. How much American oil is being exported today? Why does the Bush Administration refuse to answer this question?
April 29th, 2005 at 2:30 pmEveryone who voted Republican and drives an SUV can kiss my 30mpg ass!
April 29th, 2005 at 6:49 pmIf you would like my somewhat cynical opinion, Bush and buddies ARE doing everything they can. To keep prices up, not bring them down. High prices means more profits for big oil to lavish on their political pals. It also gets public opinion inflamed to help them accomplish something they have wanted to do for many, many years now. Poke holes in ANWR! Their conscience ends where the greenback begins.
April 29th, 2005 at 7:40 pmHow about cutting the federal gas tax of 18 cents?? That would help
April 30th, 2005 at 5:20 amOut in fly-over country, this inability by Bush (intentional, of course) to do anything about oil prices has rankled both his critics and even some of his supporters.
While ExxonMobil frets about what to do with its record profits, Mr. and Mrs. Red State burn over the rising price of everything, and most don't care about Terri Schiavo or activist judges or the other distractions glommed onto by the GOP.
The Republicans are between and rock and a hard-right place; the Christian crazies are taking credit for Bush sneaking back into office and they want action on their agenda -- but if the GOP tries to satisfy their 'USA All Jesus, All the Time' obsession, they'll turn off everyone else. Not a pleasant time to be a neocon.
April 30th, 2005 at 9:16 amExxon Mobile profits up 44%..what more needs to be said?...oh, thats right, Bushie said "I will not allow price gouging"..
April 30th, 2005 at 2:06 pmBuhs won't allow gouging unless he and his family makes a profit, is what he meant to say, in TruthWorld, a planet not in the GOP solar system at the moment.
April 30th, 2005 at 5:24 pmPrice signs are used to fix the price easily, just raise and post the raise, then the competition just raises to agree to the price fix. Why else would a merchant telegraph to the world that the new price is the highest on the street.
April 30th, 2005 at 11:29 pmIf I am not mistaken, and this is from a recent pub, US inventories are approx. 6% higher than normal. No shortages at any place.
Yet, prices continue to increase, decline a bit, then rise.
We are near the point where 2.25 a gallon (PA) is a bargain.
Bush, Cheney, et al, couldn't possibly profit from this, could they?
Wish I had bought oil stocks before the big runup.
Idjit.
Cheers,
George
