Months after initially making the claim that undocumented immigrants were beheading people in the Arizona desert, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (R) has finally admitted that she was wrong. Brewer first raised the spectre of beheadings on June 16 during an interview with Greta Van Susteren on Fox News, when she said: “We cannot afford all this illegal immigration and everything that comes with it, everything from the crime and to the drugs and the kidnappings and the extortion and the beheadings and the fact that people can’t feel safe in their community.” She doubled down when questioned on the claim by an Arizona reporter two weeks later. Brewer said, “Our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert, either buried or just lying out there, that have been beheaded.”
Brewer’s most awkward defense of her false claims came this week, when she was challenged by her Democratic opponent about the alleged beheadings during the gubernatorial debate, and was then questioned by the Arizona press corps afterward. Brewer refused to answer their questions, and then walked away.
Now, Brewer has finally (mostly) come clean, in an interview yesterday with the Associated Press:
“That was an error, if I said that,” the Republican told The Associated Press on Friday. “I misspoke, but you know, let me be clear, I am concerned about the border region because it continues to be reported in Mexico that there’s a lot of violence going on and we don’t want that going into Arizona.”
She said she was referring to beheadings and other cartel-related violence in Mexico in comments she made earlier this summer about decapitated bodies found in the state’s southern region.

It’s unlikely Brewer would have been forced to correct herself if pressure had not been put on her during the debate about her misstatements. In related news, Brewer has announced she will not be doing any more debates.

So people in distress punch their ballots back and forth until they get some form of relief, the “anti-government” types being no different.
But the government has done just about everything they can on their part. There are tax breaks, grants, etc. sitting there. But the banks, aided so dearly, continue passing on a campaign to restore loans to small business entrepreneurs and if consumers can’t ramp up spending as a result, economic recovery will continue grinding slowly.

Tell me about it. I lived in AZ for more than forty years, finally moved away two years ago right about now. It’s a beautiful state geographically and aboriginally, but the massive influx of LEGAL mostly white population has screwed the place up to the point where leaving became an attractive option. When I first arrived in AZ (1962) the total population was less than a million. Today there are more than four million in the Phoenix metro area alone.
And the idiots there complain about the impact of ILLEGAL immigration, which is NOTHING compared to the aforementioned.

Here’s the problem, cd. The GOP PLANS to arrange the destruction of this country as it’s existed for well more than 200 years. There’s not enough profit and power, you see, in any setup where the individuals are anything other than serfs and/or cannon fodder. And since money and power are all that count to a conservative, well, problem obvious.
The saddest aspect, to me, is that there are enough dumb shits to actually vote them in and cheer the result. A real head shaker, esp. when the alternative is so much simpler, so much more friendly to the individual, and so doable.
Look around, see what’s up. GOP = irrational HATRED. It’s everywhere they are, and getting worse by the day. Read the history of Germany in the early 1930’s — the parallels are obvious, and should be a matter of some concern to even a stupid shit. No, that’s not how it happened.
He went back and forth. over a period of about two weeks, with eh Minneapolis police about the specific charges. He pled guilty to the disorderly conduct charges. When he found out he might get in trouble in the Senate, he tried to change his plea, and claim he was “pressured” into pleading guilty (which was a lie.)

Bush (or Dick Cheney) and get them to admit that their misstatements and lies were misstatements and lies, that their insane conservative Republican economic policies did severe damage to the American dream, and that their equally insane foreign policies made America less safe while ending up killing and displacing millions of people worldwide.
And it is highly unlikely that George W. Bush in his upcoming memoirs will admit where he screwed-up as president or that he was a complete screw-up as president (odds are he’ll try to transfer blame for his screw-ups to Dick Cheney or the Democrats, even though Republicans controlled Congress during most of the time Bush was in office).

Is the White House dinner tonight celebrating Ramadan and honoring the contributions of American Muslims the latest exhibit in President Obama’s charm offensive toward the global Islamic community?
Sure, but it wasn’t Obama’s idea. Turns out that the Ramadan dinner was an innovation of George W. Bush, who hosted one every year he was in office and who also used the event to recognize the contributions of American Muslims.
Check out this Voice of America piece on Bush’s final iftar, the nightly dinner at which Muslims break their Ramadan fast, in 2008:
This was the president’s eighth Iftaar dinner in eight years at the White House. Mr. Bush gave thanks for the many ways that Muslim Americans enrich the lives of all Americans.
“One of the great strengths of our nation is its religious diversity. Americans practice many different faiths. We all share a belief in the right to worship freely. We reject bigotry in all its forms. And over the past eight years, my administration has been proud to work closely with Muslim Americans to promote justice and tolerance of all faiths,” he said.
