Finally, A Voice of Reason

Despite the more inflammatory and ridiculous statements coming out of the Catholic Church of late, this one stands out as one of more reasonable:

La. Catholic Churches won't allow guns

"We don't think it is appropriate to have guns in churches," said Danny Loar, Executive Director of the Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops.

To have to make a public statement like this staggers the imagination.

To see artwork like this, however, and know it's widely supported is just sickening. It's no longer about WWJD (what would Jesus do), it's now about WWJP (what was Jesus packing).

I'd call this falling short

BP to commit $500 million to research oil spill (emphasis mine)

US will "push" out BP if spill response falls short

...if?

Experts testify on grim ecological fallout from Gulf oil spill

"I think asking BP for answers is the wrong place to look," he said. "They seem to have cut corners on some critical junctures. We keep asking their permission to go down and measure the oil that's coming out. ... This mystifies me, because they are on our property now." - Carl Safina, Blue Ocean Institute President

"BP, he said, "blew it in a really huge way. Unfortunately, it's now up to all of us to figure out exactly what to do next."

Which is what we should have done from the beginning.

The National Geographic Society's Sylvia Earle said that asking for BP to play a leading role in containment efforts was akin to "relying on the foxes to look after the chicken coop."

...as finer bloggers than I have said before, Sinn Fein, baby.
