Reid's Disgenuous Double-Speak

Thursday, August 05, 2010 @ 06:08 PM

Take note of this story from today’s Congressional Quarterly, which highlights the Washington double-speak that we hear so often from Senator Harry Reid.

By way of background, Senator Reid has for months bragged about how solar energy is the wave of the future, and claims that under his leadership, he has delivered solar jobs for Nevada. His campaign even ran a television ad taking credit for this - click here to watch. Yet, when Senator Reid was forced to look for a budget offset this week to pay for another $26.1 billion stimulus bill, he chose to cut $1.5 billion from the Department of Energy’s renewable energy loan program.

That’s right. Out of the entire $3.5 trillion federal budget - with all of the waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government - Harry Reid chose to cut money from one of the very programs that he himself claims will deliver jobs for Nevada.

As the article points out below, the Solar Energy Industries Association sent a letter to all Senators before this vote took place stating point blank that "Solar investors, who have relief on the existence of the loan guarantee program when making their business plans, and the industry’s tens of thousands of employees, would be left high and dry" as a result of this specific budget cut. Yet Senator Reid apparently chose to ignore this warning from the solar energy industry - an industry that he claims to champion when he’s in Nevada - and he led the way to cut their loan guarantee funding.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, here’s where it gets even more interesting: When Senator Reid is asked about what he did in order to pay for his stimulus bill, he claimed today that "that money is just temporarily gone."

That, ladies and gentleman, is the epitome of Washington double-talk - courtesy of embattled four-term Senator Harry Reid.

Lee Fisher Campaign In Increasing Disarray

Thursday, August 05, 2010 @ 10:08 AM

In Ohio, failed Democrat jobs czar Lee Fisher is desperately attempting to convince voters, donors, and the media not to count out his flailing campaign, despite its increasing disarray. The Columbus Dispatch reports: More ominous, however, is that after spending about $3 million to defeat Brunner, Fisher trails Portman by nearly a 9-to-1 ratio in campaign funds. As of June 30, Portman had $8.8 million on hand; Fisher had $1.3 million...
