It's official

It's official. I am fully excited for Thanksgiving! I think it all began when I found out I get the day after off. A 5 day holiday; I would say that would get the excitement in full swing.

I have to bring 4 pies. One will be pumpkin, alright maybe two. And another one will be chocolatey, whatever that is. And then I need a yummy recipe for the last two, or just one.

Apple?

Lemon?

Chocolate? Oh wait, that's already a must.

Banana Cream?

Uh, no Banana.

What kind of pie do you like?

Perhaps I will get creative.

I know.

Could be scary. Or rather disgusting.

Too bad that today wasn't Thanksgiving. I could have totally gone for a stuff-your-face kind of day.

......

I'm adding this because I saw it first time just moments ago and I laughed out loud. Plus it's related to the holiday. Some would even say Thanksgiving isn't Thanksgiving without the Friday following. I've never been one to participate in this type of excitement. Good luck to you all!

However it's possible, it is. I love Target a million times more because of this commercial.

Words from Tiny mouths

This is going to be another new series if you will; Words from Tiny mouths.

I adore the tiny people that speak before they think; or rather even know the meaning behind what they say. Children are some of the funniest comedians, and I can't wait for the day when I have my own.

The big guy and I got to spend this afternoon with his family; never a dull moment. It's OK that I never had older brothers, because I do now.

Our niece and nephew are at the best age. The tiny Miss is 1 year old and the tiny Mr is 3. They are beautiful children and have a mind of their own. Right before they left, my sister-in-law and I were trying to get tiny Miss to say my name. TAY-LEE. And she did really good! But then her concentration was easily distracted to a name much easier to say and I was soon forgotten.

Later tonight I received a text from my sister-in-law.

I was helping tiny Miss say "Taylee" tonight when tiny Mr told me "It's not Taylee, just Tay."

Much love to the tiny mouths!

South Carolina's largest dairy will be at prison

I have said it many times before; I think we would benefit from our inmates working during their sentenced time. Not only would we see tax breaks but also, these men and women would be more likely to re-enter society as individuals who will contribute in some way. Now, I know that's not the case for all, but hopefully for most.

There are a percentage of criminals who have been practicing a life of wrong because that's all they know. A program like that of which South Carlina is providing could potentially teach inmates new work ethics, giving them hope for a new beginning. We all deserve another chance, but if the lack of education or understanding of how to change is not provided then one will only continue in their old ways.

Round of applause for South Carolina!

South Carolina's largest dairy will be at prison
By SEANNA ADCOX

Associated Press

REMBERT, S.C. (AP) - A state prison will soon be home to South Carolina's largest dairy under one roof, as a $7 million expansion quadruples the herd at a prison farm and allows the state to sell millions of gallons of excess milk.

South Carolina's three prison farms save taxpayers more than $600,000 annually, as inmates work to produce all of the milk, eggs and grits _ and some vegetables _ served to 24,000 prisoners statewide. The new dairy at Wateree River Correctional Institution, set to open in January, could eventually more than double that savings, according to the state Corrections Department.

"Hopefully, it will be the best run dairy in the state," said Bert Dew, the agency's agriculture chief.

Its features will include fans and misters to keep cows cool in the summer, digital sensors of the milk temperature, and computers that monitor when cows are most productive.

The hope is to make farming operations self-sustaining, with profits covering all salaries, Dew said.

The extra savings are welcome in a state expecting a $1 billion shortfall in next year's budget. The prison agency has been allowed to operate in the red for several years, as lawmakers slashed agency budgets.

South Carolina is among 17 states nationwide with prison farms. Besides South Carolina, eight others have dairy operations _ California, Colorado, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin, according to the National Correctional Industries Association's latest survey.

At 7,000 acres, Wateree's farm is by far the largest of the three in South Carolina's prison system.

More than 50,000 pounds of sweet potatoes grown there this year will be sent to prison cafeterias, but the farm's major crop is corn, which covers a quarter of the land. Other operations include a gristmill, where the corn is ground into grits for inmates and corn meal for cows; a sawmill, where fallen timber on prison property is converted to construction lumber; and 300 head of beef cattle, with calves sold at market to generate cash for inmate meals.

Duane, who worked in construction before being sentenced to 13 years for driving drunk in a fatal car crash, is among the inmates building the new dairy using wood from the prison sawmill. With four years left, he said he'd much rather work outside than pass the time idly in prison, no matter the temperature.

"I enjoy what I do," said the inmate, whose full identity could not be given under prison policy. "A lot of fellas out here are willing to learn. The one's willing to learn, they jump right in and give you a hand."

Because of the farms, the state spends a paltry $1.51 daily on three meals per inmate. Agency director Jon Ozmint said that's among the lowest, if not the lowest, food costs among state prison systems.

"This does a great service for the state," Dew said. "We're using the inmates to work. We're using land that belongs to the state to furnish food for them. They produce a large portion of their food, and we're hoping in the near future it will be even more."

The state "hires" qualifying minimum-security inmates to work on the farm. In return, they get time off their sentences _ two days shaved off for every five-day workweek, and three days off for a seven-day workweek. Another plus in the summer? Only inmates who work on the farm can live in Wateree's new unit with air conditioning.

Work for the roughly 200 prisoners varies from driving tractors to shoveling feed.

Whenever a job is open, inmates quickly line up to fill it, said Warden Donald Beckwith.

The pluses for society, he said, is that the inmates learn a trade, and they're easier to manage.

"When they're out here, it's a physical, demanding, labor-intensive job, so when they get back in the evening, they're worn out," Beckwith said. "They don't have excess energy to burn off by doing rambunctious things."

The current dairy, built in 1985, consists of 220 cows generating 500,000 gallons of milk yearly. Onsite, the milk is reduced to 2 percent fat, pasteurized, vitamin-fortified and packaged into 6-gallon bags shipped to prisons statewide.

The new, 27-acre dairy _ funded with a $6 million loan to be repaid with milk sales within 10 years _ will open with 500 cows and should reach its 1,000-cow capacity by summer. At full capacity, the dairy should produce 1.8 million gallons of excess milk yearly for sale, and its new equipment will be able to package milk and juices into single-serve containers.

State officials say South Carolina's 95 dairies produce only about a third of milk consumed in the state, so the rest has to be hauled in from elsewhere. By producing the milk at the prison, consumers should benefit because lower freight costs should mean lower prices at markets, John Wilson, senior vice president and chief fluid marketing officer for Dairy Farmers of America.

Some inmates find work in their new trade after prison, officials said.

Others take away a work ethic, Dew said: "They're learning that for everything you do it takes effort. You get up, you go to work, you do your job and you go home."

Everyone should answer the phone like that.

Well my two weeks of unlimited yoga are coming to an end. My body feels worked and I love it.

Every class has something new to offer and I am finally feeling like I can do it all somewhat well without shaking and looking like a goof. I want to keep going. HOWEVER, it sorta costs lots of money.

The big guy and I were talking about other possibilities of how I could continue having a place to go but for less. I use to have a Gold's Gym membership but canceled it when my contract expired because it was expensive and I didn't go that often. Well, the big guy has a VIP pass and so we decided I should call and see if they would offer any killer deals.

Ring-Ring-Ring

"Thank you for calling Gold's Gym today, how can I help change your life?"

HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

I signed up an hour later.

And now I'm going to start answering the phone like that.

"This is Taylee, how can I help change your life today?"

Browsing

If I could go shopping nearly everyday I would. OK, that sound obsessive, let's say once a week. If I could go shopping once a week I would. I love clothes. I love accessories. And I think merchandise therapy is the best help anyone can get.

The big guy is out playing basketball and I have spent the evening browsing...

Browsing clothes I will never buy.

Sunday Morning

The big guy got up early today. He went straight to the kitchen and made the best coffee in the world. And while it was tempting to wake-up and drink some with him, I continued to sleep.

Upon waking I knew where he was. On the opposite side of our bedroom wall is our couch where he lie reading his new book. The man is currently ready 8 books; all of which he will finish  before I conclude one.

I tap on the wall. tap-tap-tap

Shortly after, I hear the bedroom door open, he is peaking in. I raise my arm to notify that I did in fact want him to come hither. He bounds on top of me, snuggling his face into my neck.

23 seconds pass.

Honey, I'm sorry but your  morning breath is monumental this morning.
I cover my mouth, looking at him with big-laughing eyes.

He pushes himself off, laughs and tries to leave. I quickly wine for him to come back. He does.

I'm just going to turn my head this way then,
turning his face in the complete opposite way of mine.

We laugh.

Exercise Depression

I contemplated posting right now because my body feels like its been through the ringer and I can barely keep my arms up on the keyboard. But alas, here I am.

I have been going through a stage of exercise depression if you will. Meaning, I don't have the motivation, drive or energy to work out. You'd be lucky to see me out once a week on a run or walk. Why does this happen? I come home from work, and rather throw on the gear and head out the door, I just wanna sit my lazy butt on the couch and eat a bag of chips.

I keep thinking it will pass, and I'm sure it will. I bought a 14 day, unlimited pass for this Pilate's and Yoga studio I have continuously drove past for the last 2 months saying, 'I really should start yoga again.' Today I woke up and went to the 8am class. Yes, When my alarm went off I contemplated not going. But then I envisioned my not so firm, flabby arms and decided it best be done.

My butt was handed to me on a silver platter. By the end of the 75 minute class, any pose that we would do, I would shake uncontrollably. I was almost embarrassed because I probably looked like I was having seizures. I'm not exaggerating. All this time I've stayed thin, but being thin and being in shape are two different things!

For the next two weeks I WILL be going to yoga EVERYDAY. And by the end of two weeks, I had better be able to get through the class without wanting to die.

Halloween is not a Healthy Holiday

Is there even such thing as a 'Healthy Holdiay'?

I will be the first to admit that I can throw down a bag of Reese's Minis in a day. Actually don't even give me a 'day', just an afternoon or evening, finito! And I'm OK with it, I am completely aware that each little 'mini' is jammed pack with sugar and calories. It's candy. Candy=Sugar & Calories.

I came across this article titled Healthy Halloween Treats. If you click through all the tabs describing different treats you will notice they leave out the amount of Sugar in each. And I'm questioning this...

One Original Tootsie Roll
26 calories, 0.5g fat

Everywhere that I look says they have over 120 calories. I think they meant to say in ONE MINI TINY TOOTSIE ROLL. Or that if you share half of your tootsie roll with another, then it is only 26 calories.

SO, unless you are handing out little bags of carrots, please don't say your Halloween treats are healthy.

I start my day off with a bucket of water. You?

Today I woke up with exactly enough time to shower, brush my hair, juice, brush my teeth, put on deodorant, get dressed and leave for work. All in that order mind you.

Juice? Yes, I juice nearly every morning [my breakfast]. Have you seen the repeated info commercial for the Jack Lalanne's Power Juicer? That's its. Now envision the actual machine if you will. A huge, take-up too much room kind of machine that you have to take apart every time you juice in order to clean it. And I have learned that if you don't immediately clean it prior to juicing, everything dries up making it hard to clean. Please note that once you take the thing apart, the outer piece is shaped like a bucket. And could actually be used for a bucket if you so desired.

Proceeding on to my perfectly timed morning. I'm juicing. Then drinking and cleaning all at the same time. And if you will notice above, getting dressed is precisely the sixth step. So yes, I'm in the nude. Excluding the hot pink plastic cleaning gloves I have on. And don't tell me that when you are home alone you don't walk around in the nude too. CONTINUING ON! I'm drinking, cleaning, drinking, cleaning...

Have you ever been cleaning a big area of ground [work with me here] and in order to rinse it off you have to use buckets of water to splash it clean? And yes, you can "splash" something clean. It looks like this...

BERJAYA

Ok, we're on the same page.

Do you recall how I told you that the outer piece of the juicer is like a bucket? So when you are cleaning it you need to make sure you have dumped the remainder of the water out so you don't do as the image above.

Well, seeing how I was cleaning, drinking, cleaning, drinking, evidently that was BRAIN OVERLOAD and I forgot the step of 'dumping the remainder of the water out so you don't do as the image above.'

As I am taking the bucket shaped piece of juicer from the sink to the area in which I have things drying, I somehow reenacted the image above. And I splashed a bucket FULL of water all over the floor. Water went from where I was standing in the kitchen, to under the dining room table. And there I stood, butt naked, with the water running, wearing hot pink plastic cleaning gloves.

Are you KIDDING me? Looking down at the water in disbelief as if someone else had come into my home and purposely dumped a bucket of water onto the kitchen floor. But no, it was me! How dare I! Especially when I am on such a timely mission of getting out the door for work!

I proceed to grab a whole roll of paper towels, pulling handfuls off, not knowing whether to cry, scream, or just stop and sit there. I really could have gone for a nice sit-on-the-floor-in-a-pool-of-water-crying-why-me-moment. But I didn't. Instead I cleaned that dang water up so fast even I was impressed. Threw the gloves on the counter and proceeded to dash around getting ready and out the door on time.

My life. There are days where I wonder how I get through it.

Hanging On

Everyday on my way to and from work I listen for this song to come on Air 1 radio. I am always moved by it, and no wonder. I found the Britt Nicole's story behind it, which makes me love it even more.

She performed this song on Air 1 and it's amazing. Her voice is just as beautiful live as it is recorded. But to watch her perform is even more beautiful. Her love for the Lord our God radiates in every direction.

Below is the radio version.

Now I need to learn this on the guitar and sing it myself.
