In June, Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC) became one of the first incumbent Republicans to be knocked off by an insurgent Tea Party candidate. Although he maintained a 93 percent lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, primary voters deemed Inglis to be insufficiently conservative. In an interview with Mother Jones, Inglis said that one of the reasons for his defeat was because he refused to demagogue like other conservatives in the House. In one instance during the primary, Inglis was chastised simply for not calling President Obama a “socialist.” He also noted that many of the GOPs criticisms regarding Obama’s response to the economic crisis were motivated by racism:
Instead, he remarks, his party turned toward demagoguery. Inglis lists the examples: falsely claiming Obama’s health care overhaul included “death panels,” raising questions about Obama’s birthplace, calling the president a socialist, and maintaining that the Community Reinvestment Act was a major factor of the financial meltdown. “CRA,” Inglis says, “has been around for decades. How could it suddenly create this problem? You see how that has other things worked into it?” Racism? “Yes,” Inglis says.
Inglis also had particular criticism of House GOP leader John Boehner and GOP whip Eric Cantor, whom he accused of being unwilling to “summon the courage” to stand up to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Tea Partiers.

This is nice, but would Inglis be talking like this if he won his primary? The answer is the same as the GnOP platform, NO!

Amazing isn’t it. Nothing shames these people any more. They wear bad behavior as a badge of honor.
In terms of rolling back the clock on rights and equality, many of these folks are on record as wanting to go back to the original constitution. Many have actively said they want to roll back the 17th (Senators elected by popular vote); and now the 14th (birthright citizenship among other things) seems to be up for grabs.

The troll oblaskins finds it hard to believe that the republican party would be in cahoots with corporate America to keep unemployment high and job creation low.
The troll is too ignorant to realizes that both the republicans and corporate America gain by high unemployment and no job creation.
In working together, the republicans obstructing while corporate America holds onto their profits, they know that a bad economy is caused by high unemployment which hurts the democratic party in 2010.
Both gain if the republicans take back power, as more deregulation will occur, lower corporate taxes will be passed, tax cuts for the rich will continue, more offshoring of jobs will happen once the republicans are back in power.
The troll forgets that some members of the republican party admitted that a terrorist attack in our country would be political gain for them.
The troll forgets that the Reagan administration brokered a deal with Iran to hold US hostages until after the 1980 presidential elections.
The troll forgets that a republican operative twisted a positive message by Shirley Sherrod in an attempt to scare white America, all for the benefit of the republican party.
The troll forgets that the Bush administration used the fear of phony terrorism threats and phony Bin Laden videos before the 2002 and 2004 elections to help the republicans remain in power.

August 3rd, 2010 at 1:42 pmrobotard, anyone who says evolution is just a theory isn’t capable of answering any questions of merit.
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:43 pmEvolution is still a theory.
You are a science denier.
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:43 pmBeethoven,
So Obama is bringing the economy back on line, good of you to notice.
You still haven’t answered the question as to what went wrong with the great bush tax cut/deregulation policy.
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:44 pmangels81, we really have to call it the RayGun tax cut/deregulation policy. bush just followed the cut/spend mantra of saint raygun the destroyer…
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:47 pmof course the policy of racism that inglis talks of was also a saint raygun the racist policy. the “southern strategy” secured the GOP status as a national party, but turned it into ground zero for racism and bigotry.

olbytard, and profits are what are taxed, dumphukkk
wall street is showing lots of companies that have bigger profits than ever, and they aren’t hiring – which debunks your theory for why companies hire… zzzz…
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:57 pmrobotard, no it began with Ronnie Raygun policies which have failed us for decades now.

Get rid of: Social Security, the DOA, the DOE, the DOHUD, Medicare, the IRS, Foreign Aid, UNICEF, title lX, HCR, the Americans With Disabilities Act, child labor laws, the FDA, well the list of give aways, liberal pork and business killing regulatory agencies goes on and on. Fact is just about everything including defense (yes Xe can do the job quite nicely, thank you) can be dumped or privatized. That’ll take care of the “3 trillion” and we might even have something left over for a nice 4th of July parade and fireworks show.
August 3rd, 2010 at 2:00 pmrobotard, please, have every single teabagger candidate run on that platform in November! Please, just do it! ROTFL!

Just because someone’s eligible doesn’t mean they take benefits. Not all of us are comfortable living off the hard work of others
August 3rd, 2010 at 2:10 pmUnemployment is the number of people out of work, eligible, and still searching for a job, not merely the number of people “receiving benefits” you can not be “receiving benefits” and still be counted in unemployment numbers. Similarly, you can be recieving benefits (welfare), be out of work, and not be counted as unemployed if you are no longer searching for a job.
Finish off by pulling a rabbit out your hat and exit stage left.

So Beethoven,
why don’t you folks be honest with the public and run on the BS you believe?
How many seats in congress do you think you would win if, you told voters you would repeal, social security, medicare, DOE,IRS, EPA, child labor laws, unemployment insurance, welfare?
I think you tea baggers should be honest, and run on your beliefs, instead of snowing everybody as to what you really would do, if you ever had the power.
August 3rd, 2010 at 2:31 pmBeethoven Rules says:
“The Tea Party Movement got rid of RINOs … Sharron Angle, Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo will lead us to victory this November.”

August 3rd, 2010 at 3:44 pm*somewhere in the deep black fortress that is the GOP hq two figures walk a long and dim passageway*
A man walks slowly, his face downcast and his step measured. He is resignated to his fate. The shadows darken his pale blue eyes. There is no luminosity form the tears he once shed. They and long since dried and been forgotten, a wasted bit of excess in a body that was soon to be rid of such needless impurities.
Much as he was to be.
A hunched figure shuffles alongside him, the blackness seeming to radiate off him the slothful waves in a oil slick.
His walk is also measured, but where his companions is the slow march of the doomed the rolling gait of the hunched one is the stagger of a shell dying from the inside out.
“Thank you for your loyal service to a cause you really did believe in Citizen Iglis” Cheney hissed quite suddenly and laying a hand on the arm of the man to his left. “I still believe.” Representative Bob Ingalia whispered softly. His words echoing off uncaring walls and ears. The touch of Cheney was light as a lover but poison, slime and rot and corruption incarnate.
“This is as far as we travel together.” The one good eye of his tormentor sucking at the life in him like the pit of a dead sun. He indicated a table at the far end of the hallway with a short gladius on it. “You know what needs to be done. For the Party.” And with words like the sound of infant bones snapping he leaned back against the wall. “Oh I can wait dear friend. I have all the time in the world…”
August 3rd, 2010 at 3:52 pmYes, we all know the stupid trolls actually believe that corporations will then do the right thing, because the reason they’re giving us contaminated products is because they’re PROTESTING unjust government regulation…
Pro child labor, eh? So you wouldn’t mind seeing children injured on the job…you wouldn’t mind seeing a world where only the scions of the rich can afford to go to school because everyone else is working. In fact, I posted the story about Conservative Joe…Shall I do it again?

Welcome to Beethoven Rules’ world…
August 3rd, 2010 at 4:05 pmI truly pity individuals like Beethoven Rules and the Tea Partiers.
They forfeited their free will in the name of complete, unreserved support for their ‘champions’. Notice I do not say ‘god’, or ‘Constitution’ or ‘country’ because
A. The great majority have never read the Constitution nor even taken the relevant coursework to truly appreciate the context and nuance of the language.
B. We all know the bible is a patchwork of contradictory books cobbled together by Constantine written in vague language that is INTERPRETED to the rightwingers by their local preacher (or televangelist).
C. There are no such thing as ‘American Values’ because they are vague maxims that is shared by many other nations. The difference between left and right is proof enough that the way these values can be expressed are so divergent that we cannot credibly claim to share a common set of values beyond the most vague of concepts.
In all three points, a ‘champion’…political or religious,..is the true source of the rightwinger’s belief…not the text from which the ‘champion’ (and ultimately, predictably, the rightwinger) deifies.
Little do these poor simians know, their ‘champions’ are very aware of this dynamic where their followers surrender their free will to the ‘champion’ and rubber-stamps any (or pretty damn most) argument the ‘champion’ puts forth.
Getting such blind, unqualified loyalty is simple. Take a vocal stand on abortion OR pander their ego…usually in some subtle, subconscious appeal to ethnocentrism or racism. And VOILA! Instant army of drones!
The rightwing politician banks nearly exclusively on wedge issues, empty appeals to the ego, and appealing to identification when securing votes. Case in point,…look at the nearly homogeneous cultural background of the right. It has nothing to do with any innate weakness of the culture or race….not at all (the culture is another story but I digress). This homogeneity is simply a byproduct of the tactics which they employ to gain supporters…and the group they have targeting to be willing stooges to their scam.
It’s much harder to do this with the left. Because we come from different backgrounds, different religions (or like me, no religion), etc.
Politician wants subtly to appeal to the superiority of Christianity? Oops, Democrat A is Jewish. Oops Democrat B is Atheist. Oops Democrat C is Muslim.
Want to subtly cite the superiority of American culture by hypocritically citing nation X’s behavior? Oops, Democrat A hails from that nation. Democrat B hails from a nation that has good relations with nation X. Democrat C comes from Russia and is all too familiar with this hypocritical self-righteous posturing by some Americans. Democrat D just plain see through the arrogant appeal to the ego and thinks it’s all bu—–t.
Politician wants to insinuate that the cause of economic collapse is due to a bunch of minorities getting houses they couldn’t afford? Oops Democrat A is a latino and can see right through a cheap tactic designed to be readily accepted by individuals too lazy to check the facts and come readily equipped with a racial bias that enables them to embrace such a charge. Democrat B gets her news from sources outside of faux and is aware of the reckless rush to give out mortgages in order to fuel a lust for mortgage backed securities. Democrat C read the article about mortgage fraud initiated by lenders and poor vetting of mortgage applications.
I think I’ve made my point.
So given this ‘deifying’ of religious and political leaders (sadly I would include Beck and Limbaugh in there as well)…’champions’, if you will. Couple that with the herding of the target group to EXCLUSIVELY rely on a narrow spectrum of media outlets for their news / opinion…and THEY GOT YOU BY THE BALLS.
So tell me, Beethoven Rules, what was it that first turned you into a drone?
Was it the stand on abortion? In spite of the fact they stop giving a crap about human life once that very child reaches adulthood?
Was it because oh-my-daddy-town-neighborhood-city-are-rightwingers and -I-so-crave-acceptance-from-them-because-of-these-pesky-feelings-of-inadequacy ?
Or was it I’ve-got-a-shitty-job-and-it’s-because-of-affirmative-action-that-I-can’t-do-better ?
Perhaps it was I-lack-self-confidence-in-my-ability-to-achieve-so-I’ll-fall-back-on-feeling-unjustifiably-superior-based-on-cultural-religious-racial-happenstance ?
I have to say, you rightwingers are fairly amusing and predictable. I’m a cynical bast–d but even I have my days where it all just seems a little sad…
August 3rd, 2010 at 4:58 pmFor non-scholars who would like to read a fictionalized version of the origins of three dominant religions of the world, I suggest James Michener’s The Source – well researched and written in his inimitable fashion weaving historical facts into a worthwhile read.
It would appear, more often than one would care to admit, that we have not changed much over thousands of years; same fights, same taunts: my god is bigger than your god!
August 3rd, 2010 at 5:55 pmOops, that is off topic, but it applies to the topic many posts revert to — fundamentalist religions and their desire to dominate the people.

funny you whine about racism, because the right wing has been charging “racism” from Obama and all blacks for months. you sound like you’re projecting with your “racist label” comment princess. based on your projection, it just sounds like you kkkons have nothing useful to say on the topic of Obama or the teabaggikkklan racism if the best you can do is label the NAACP and Obama as racist? ROTFL!
we both know that the bigger issue with you kkklansmen is that you use “reverse racism” as an excuse for your bigotry. the original kkklan claimed that jews were exploiting them and blacks were racist s@x fiends r@ping their women. they used those trumped up racist charges to deflect from their white racism, just like you and the gop and the teabaggikkklan are doing. and people aren’t buying it dipsh!t.

“again someone look at an income statement before making a stupid post”
Here here! OR… one could simply look up the actual definitions of the terms:
Revenue is total earnings and gross profit is like a step below EBITDA. Net is operating profit in an ongoing enterprise, total profit in a one-off transaction.
Now that that’s settled… what’s the freaking point? Oh right, unemployment. I paid a whole boatload into that system and feel no shame whatsoever for collecting on it for the first time after 30 years in the labor force. In fact, the way I left my last job was designed to guarantee my eligibility. I earned every penny and a whole lot more. Only a fool wouldn’t collect on that which is rightfully owed.
Beethoven Rules says:
“Did I forget to mention repealing the 14th amendment?”
You mean the one the Supreme Court used to justify granting 1st Amendment rights to corporations in the CU v FEC ruling? Well, you just enjoy trying to throw that baby out with the bath water but we’ll stick with the equal protection clause all the same, thanks.

.
Beethoven Rules says:
Rich man/bigger tips. Poor man/no tips. Economics 101.
Economics isn’t based on “tips.” The middle class hasn’t had to beg and scrape for the optional largesse of the wealthy since we were operating under a fuedal system. Apparently that’s either how you think the economy still is, or how you want it to be.
.
Beethoven Rules says:
Negroes and low income families defaulting on mortgages contributed to thos unsavory stew as well.
That’s right, blame those uppity “negroes” for daring to think they can own a house. You know what – if black folks could take down the Man just by filling out some bad mortgage applications, they would have done it back in the 70’s.
Never complain about being hit with the “race card” again, racist.
