If you're a frequent visitor to IGN, you've likely noticed that we generally have reviews for major titles on or before their release dates. With StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, the follow up to Blizzard's landmark real-time strategy game that came out way back in 1998, that's not the case. We've got a copy in the office (which you can see in our Collector's Edition unboxing video) and have been playing around in the beta pre-launch, but won't experience the story mode or the retail multiplayer experience until you do.
The goal is to get you a review as quickly as possible, but we'll also be taking to time to see all there is to see in StarCraft II. Because of that, there's no specific date when the review might show up. We are working on it, though, so don't think we've forgotten about what's arguably the biggest game of the year. The review will be published in this space, so feel free to bookmark this page and check in later.
In the meantime, if you aren't already set on picking up StarCraft at launch, check out our previous coverage, some of which is highlighted below. Expect plenty of video to be published this week as we play. And, by the way, which version are you planning on buying?
To catch up on the StarCraft storyline before playing the sequel, you're going to want to watch our StarCraft in Five Minutes video.
If you have no idea what StarCraft is and why it's such a big deal, our StarCraft for Everyone article is something you should read, as it explains the basics of the game and genre. If you already know you like StarCraft, then we've got an article recommending a number of other strategy games that might be of interest.
And if you were especially curious what the World of Warcraft pet that comes with the Collector's Edition looks like, we've got footage of that too.
And finally you should probably just watch this because it's awesome. Or take our StarCraft Personality Quiz to see which race is most like you.
If you're playing the game right now, what do you think?
