MABEL WILSON had such a strong impact on her community that the 2500 block of Alter Street in South Philadelphia, where she lived for 81 years, was officially designated "Mabel Wilson Walk" in 2009.

The funeral service for the Rev. Thelma Edwards, 102, will begin at 11 a.m. today at Greater St. Matthew Independent Church, 5544 Race Street. The church's name and address were incorrect in yesterday's Daily News.

 

Robert P. McHugh, 34-year Fire Department veteran - 07/19/2010

It was Sept. 14, 1967, when Firefighter Robert P. McHugh and Battalion Chief James H. Malone screeched to a halt in front of a burning house on 19th Street near Montgomery Avenue.

 

Services set for the Rev. Thelma Edwards, 102 - 07/19/2010

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church, 2321 Fitzwater St., for the Rev. Thelma Edwards, who died July 10 at the age of 102. She lived in West Philadelphia.

Victor Chemerys, retired Philadelphia police homicide detective, dies at 92 - 07/16/2010

Victor Chemerys, a retired Philadelphia police homicide detective, fraud investigator for American Express, investigator for the state Supreme Court's Disciplinary Board and Navy veteran of World War II, died July 13. He was 92 and was a longtime resident of East Falls.
