On Thursday’s Radio Show…

• President Obama has taken a lot of flack over the BP oil spill, but will he get any credit now that the flow has stopped? We’ll debate it.

• Are there too many “bigoted elements within the Tea Party“? Alan discusses the issue with Hilary Shelton of the NAACP.

• Republican congressional candidate Ed Martin says Democrats like President Obama are “taking away the freedom” to be Christian. He’ll defend his claim.

More Mad Mel

mel

RadarOnline has the latest Mel. This is like the Gulf oil flow. Will it ever stop? Maybe they should use that new cap on Gibson.

Screaming, snarling and panting Mel Gibson completely loses it in new audio obtained and released exclusively by RadarOnline.com.

“B*tch, c*nt, whore, gold digger,” Mel yells at Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his eight-month-old daughter.

And in this, the 5th tape released by RadarOnline.com, Gibson comes unhinged and shockingly claims that he is broke. The star has made tens of millions of dollars during his Hollywood career, but…

Would-Be Senator Rand Paul: “Foreign Policy Is Really A Complete Non-Issue”

1400

I’m not sure if anyone has informed Kentucky candidate for United States Senate Rand Paul that part of the job of being a United States senator is deciding on weighty issues such as foreign policy.  In an interview with the National Review Paul comments on foreign policy in general and Afghanistan in particular. (h/t Think Progress)

“I’m not thinking about Afghanistan; foreign policy is really a complete non-issue.” He hopes that if he makes it to the Senate, there will be “room for discussion” on foreign-policy issues within the party, especially on Afghanistan. “Within Republican…

Gulf Oil Flow Stops For First Time In 87 Days

images

BP’s new containment cap stopped the oil leak in the Gulf as of 3:25PM ET. Live video of the leak showed no oil at the site where it had been flowing since April.

BP is conducting step-by-stop tests of the massive, 150,000 pound cap on the wellhead, a process that had been beset by delays since they first lowered the device to the leak site Monday night.

First, government officials requested a delay for analysis, out of fears that the cap could damage the leaking well further and do more harm than…

Sweeping Wall Street Overhaul On Its Way To Passage

wall-street-sign

It will be the biggest overhaul of Wall Street since the Great Depression.  Senate passage and the president’s signature is likely now that sixty senators have signed off on it.

The sweeping reform bill will create a consumer financial protection agency, let the government dismantle large failing firms, bring transparency to the murky derivatives market, and cap the fees that debit card companies can charge retailers.

As with the other reforms accomplished by Democrats since Obama took office, this one was also bucked by most Republicans, with the exception of Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of…

HHS To Give Incentives For Electronic Health Records

5668

by Stuart Shapiro

This is as close as public policy gets to a win-win situation.  On Tuesday, the Obama Administration announced incentives for doctors and hospitals to make their records more electronic.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced final rules to help improve Americans’ health, increase safety and reduce health care costs through expanded use of electronic health records (EHR). . . Under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009, eligible health care professionals and hospitals can qualify for Medicare and Medicaid…

U.S. Now Lags Behind Latin America On Gay Rights

3444547

With Argentina approving gay marriage, they’re a step ahead of the United States.

After 15 hours of debate, the Senate voted 33 to 27 in favor of the measure, which was sponsored by the government of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. For weeks, she waged a bitter war of words with the Roman Catholic Church over the measure.

Mexico City became the first jurisdiction in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriages last year. Two other countries in the region, Uruguay and Colombia, allow civil unions for same-sex couples

GOP Missouri Congressional Candidate Says Obama Taking Away Your Chance To Find God

ed-martin

Republican Ed Martin, who is running against Democrat Russ Carnahan for Congress, told radio host Gina Loudon that President Obama and Congressman Russ Carnahan will “take away” the freedom to be Christian. (h/t Raw Story)

MARTIN: …when you take a government and you impose, and take away all your choices. One of the choices you take away is to find the Lord. And find your savior.

And that’s one of the things that’s most destructive about the growth of government. It’s this taking away that freedom. The freedom — the ultimate freedom,…

No Tea Party Racism? Think Again

slide_1398_20093_large

Think Progress has compiled a video that represents what you find at tea party events. Among the comments:

TEA PARTY ACTIVIST1: He’s too black to be President.

TEA PARTY ACTIVIST2: I’m a proud racist, I’m white.

TEA PARTY ACTIVIST3: Afro-Leninism! Coming to you on a silver platter, Barack Hussein Obama!
