Post Office To Announce Rate Increase

Remember snail mail? It’s going to cost more.

Under the law, the post office is generally limited to increases no more than the rate of inflation — 0.9 percent for the year ended in May.

However, the agency is allowed to seek a larger increase in unusual circumstances. [Postmaster General John] Potter said in March he planned to take that step.

Sharron Angle’s new website presents a different picture of the Nevada Senate candidate than her old one. Angle issued a press release accusing Reid of deceptively using her old site to raise money.

Today U.S. Senator Harry Reid’s campaign was forced to take down a website that falsely represented itself as Sharron Angle’s campaign website and attempted to deceive Angle…

tedglick001

Environmental activist Ted Glick, who put up two banners in the Hart Senate office building, will be sentenced Tuesday and faces three years in jail.  (h/t Allen McDuffee at Raw Story).  The banners said “Green Jobs Now” and “Get to Work,” and were hung in the building’s 7th floor atrium on September 8, 2009, as the Senate was returning form summer break.

20100616_oilspill_190x190

The cost of the Gulf oil spill hit $3 billion, climbing half a billion dollars in just the past week.

London-based BP PLC released its latest tally of response costs Monday. The total of $3.12billion was up from $2.65billion a week earlier. The figure does not include a $20billion fund for Gulf damages BP set aside in June.

And now, tar balls have been found on a Texas beach, evidence that all Gulf states have been affected.

A Coast Guard official said it was possible that the oil hitched a ride on…

Jill Lawrence: Liberals Need To Wave The Flag More To Prove They’re Patriotic

american-flag-240vm-070510

Jill Lawrence at Politics Daily seems to think the paltry number of flags she counts outside houses on her block shows how liberals aren’t patriotic enough. She, of course, is one of the two good Americans on her block.

Once again on a patriotic holiday, only two flags flew on my block, and it breaks my heart. What is it about liberals that makes so many so disinclined to embrace patriotic symbols, to show the world that they care?

My block is in upper Northwest Washington, D.C., a beating heart of liberal America. On the Fourth…

Fareed Zakaria Explains The Folly Of The Afghanistan War

s-FAREED-ZAKARIA-large

The number of al Qaeda members in Afghanistan is down to between 50 and 100.

“Last month alone there were more than 100 NATO troops killed in Afghanistan.,” the CNN host said. “That’s more than one allied death for each living Al Qaeda member in the country in just one month.

“The latest estimates are that the war in Afghanistan will cost more than $100 billion in 2010 alone. That’s a billion dollars for every member of Al Qaeda thought to be living in Afghanistan in one year.”

To critics who suggest that we…

Anti-Census Fever Results In Census Worker Arrest

census-workers1

Russell Haas, a former New Jersey police officer, was just doing his job going door-to-door in Hawaii as a Census worker. A resident refused to accept the forms and told Haas to leave his property. The homeowner, a police officer, called his co-workers on the force who seemed unaware of the federal law allowing Census workers to request participation.

When police arrived, instead of asking the resident to accept the forms as required by federal law, the officers crumpled the papers into Haas’ chest and handcuffed him, Haas said. The department hasn’t released the name of the officer…

Iowa Rep. Steve King: Obama Won’t Help Oil Spill Because Bobby Jindal Is A Republican

steve-king

Iowa Congressman Steve King agrees with a caller to Jan Mickelson’s radio show on WHO in Des Moines that President Obama isn’t helping Louisiana with the oil spill because Governor Bobby Jindal is a Republican. (h/t Think Progress)

CALLER: You know it’s absolutely despicable the way our president is acting on this oil slick. And it boils down that the governor is a Republican and Obama is a Democrat and he’s not gonna help in any way to make him, to help Louisiana. … So as far as I’m concerned the blood is on his hands.…
