Washington Post:

Daniel Almond, a three-tour veteran of Iraq, is ready to "muster outside D.C." on Monday with several dozen other self-proclaimed patriots, all of them armed. They intend to make history as the first people to take their guns to a demonstration in a national park, and the Virginia rally is deliberately being held in sight of the Capitol, just a few miles from the White House.

I just hope the "patriots" realize that the left has guns too and might just defend the constitution when and if these confederates go to far.I almost wish they would just try to secede or attempt a coup they would have their arses handed to them, AGAIN! Don't mistake a social conscience as weakness in fortitude.

I've read a number of posts here that refer to "law abiding citizens", but we must remember that we are all law abiding citizens until we break the law (and that happens most frequently). Should we not err on the side of caution if we must err at all?

How is that an argument for carrying guns?! Remember we are law abiding citizens until we're not. With or without guns.

These are just a bunch of militant fascists. 1) No one is removing their rights to bear arms. 2) All the stuff they say they're against or have a problem with, went through the democratic process in Congress. 3) So what they're basically saying is that they want to impose their will on the rest of us through intimidation. Does that sound familiar? It should. It's called fascism.

a list of every bill pertaining to firearms and explosives:

http://www.opencongress.org/issues/show/8814_firearms_and_explosives

you can see there is nothing before congress that effects gun ownership. the closest thing to gun control in there raises the penalties for breaking already existing gun sales laws. the last bill submitted that directly pertained to gun ownership was Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 which opencongress referred to as "a fringe bill with no co-sponsors that has virtually zero chance of becoming law." they also called it "dead on arrival".

If you go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ (redirected from www.congress.gov) and type in "firearms" where it says

Legislation in Current Congress
Search Bill Summary & Status
Word/Phrase Bill Number

You will get about 116 results.

2) I am very interested to know what exactly these id.iot.s want to replace the government with??!!! WHAT? Are they thinking that they're just going to take over? Well if that's not fascism then I don't know what is.

Posters below,

I must confess that I'm a bit tickled by all of the frothiness generated by the use of the term "God given right." I personally avoid this term, but those familiar with American history and culture are aware that this country was born out of the enlightenment, and that the framers set up this great nation to be a place where the individual held the place of highest importance- not a king or legislature.

If you really want to read up on it, "Natural Rights," rights existing in a "state of nature," or as people sometimes say "granted by the God of nature" are all concepts of enlightenment thought.

Contrary to what so many dumbed down Americans believe, the Second Amendment doesn't "grant" anything, it AFFIRMS the rights which you already have simply by being in existence.

Stop getting so wrapped around the axle over "God given rights" and start to understand that the constitution was written in a certain way for a reason, and has been the source of our prosperity as a nation over the past 200 years. It's not going away no matter what either side thinks, but if anyone's keeping score, the anti-rights crowd is losing. (Congrats AZ residents!)

"Anti rights"? This is not about any rights? The right to bear arm is not even being debatted! These guys are saying they are against HCR, tax and what not and hence they decide to carry arms!!!! So you tell me. What are they trying to accomplish by that given these facts?

Reply     Favorite     Flag as abusive Posted 10:42 PM on 4/19/2010
photo

I believe the intent was to merely show up and be counted, and to make the government aware that they are real people with a voice. (and a gun)

On the topic of HCR, the fact is that there is no Constitutional authority that could possibly require me or anyone else to purchase healthcare from any government or commercial entity under penalty of tax or prison. Obama is unconcerned with this, and continues to trudge forward with that smug smile on his face, doing more to improve the position of social parasites at the expense of productive Americans each day.

The situation is getting out of hand and hopefully this will give pause to the anti-rights crowd before they launch their next assault or infringement.

Folks, the big disconnect here is that they are protesting gun rights - when no one is speaking of taking them away. And if they are protesting anything else - bringing guns is nonsensical.

These teabaggers are clueless. First the name "Tea Party Patriots," which was appropriately shortened to teabaggers. Then not recognizing that you don't pick April 19 for this type of event. People in 2010 are much more likely to remember a painful event from 1995 than an historic one from 1775.

It's also worth noting that in 1794 none other President George Washington himself -- one of the richest Americans -- led almost 13,000 militia men into western Pennsylvania to go after the leaders of a tax revolt. The tax resulted from debts incurred during the Revolution, more than a decade earlier. The revolt was called the Whisky Rebellion:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey_Rebellion

It’s ironic that descendents of the real patriots -- those from 1770’s -- were ultimately forced by George Washington to pay their war taxes. There's certainly no reason to accept less from this crew today.

See, that's the problem. It would be great if we could depend on people to do the right thing, like don't abuse your children, for example, and then we wouldn't need a law to prevent it. And it would be great if people were responsible with their guns, and knew and respected just what those weapons were capable of (death, for example) and didn't bring them into a crowd of agitated people. But this protest today just proves to me that you can't depend on people to do the right thing.

Bunch of angry armed white people, militia movement sympathizers, protesting god knows what, who just happened to pick the 15th anniversary of Timothy McVeigh's bombing of the Murrah building in Oklahoma City.

Here's a quote of McVeigh's - sound familiar?
"Taxes are a joke. Regardless of what a political candidate "promises," they will increase. More taxes are always the answer to government mismanagement. They mess up. We suffer. Taxes are reaching cataclysmic levels, with no slowdown in sight... Is a Civil War Imminent? Do we have to shed blood to reform the current system? I hope it doesn't come to that. But it might."

From wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_McVeigh
"McVeigh spent more time on the gun show circuit,[when?] traveling to 40 of the 50 states and visiting about 80 gun shows in all. McVeigh found that the further west he went, the more anti-government sentiment he encountered, at least until he got to what he called "The People's Socialist Republic of California."

Look at these tea-party morons words and actions. Wonder why we think you're all crazy? Wonder why we question these gun-nuts choice of dates? Can another act of home-grown terrorism be far behind?

"People in 2010 are much more likely to remember a painful event from 1995 than an historic one from 1775."

A sad commentary on our educational system. Perhaps those in Massachusetts and Maine, which have a state holiday to commemorate the occasion, would be more attuned to it, but for the nonsense about "Monday holiday observance".

Reply     Favorite     Flag as abusive Posted 03:15 PM on 4/19/2010

And Maine's holiday likely stems from the fact that it was part of MA until 1820.

Funny use of the term "law abiding."

Reply     Favorite     Flag as abusive Posted 02:30 PM on 4/19/2010

1. Many of them aren't "law abiding," which is why additional regulation is needed.

2. Given the number of people dying every year from guns held by "law abiding citizens," additional regulation is required even among the "law abiding."

3. The NRA and far right almost never accept even the most reasonable registration and regulation requirements without bringing out that tired "end of the world" rhetoric. They seem to argue that the Second Amendment provides unrestricted gun ownership rights. The courts have consistently found otherwise, but they fail to acknowledge that fact.
