Fox News Pulls Sean Hannity From Tea Party Rally

Hannity

Fox News has pulled Sean Hannity from his starring role in a tea party rally just one week after Rupert Murdoch said the network should not be supporting the tea party movement.

Hannity was set to broadcast Thursday night from a tea party rally in Cincinnati, but was rushing back to New York Thursday evening after network executives learned of the plan and said it was unacceptable.

"Fox News never agreed to allow the Cincinnati Tea Party organizers to use Sean Hannity's television program to profit from broadcasting his show from the event," Bill Shine, the network's executive vice president of programming, told the Los Angeles Times. "When senior executives in New York were made aware of this, we changed our plans for tonight's show."

As the LAT notes, Hannity was listed as the headline of the Cincinnati rally.

"Sean Hannity rushing to NYC, cancelled broadcast from Cincinnati Tea Party. Crowd disappointed," fellow speaker Jonah Goldberg tweeted late Thursday afternoon.

Last week, News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch said before a Washington, DC crowd that Fox News should not be supporting the movement.

"I don't think we should be supporting the Tea Party or any other party," he said. Earlier this week, the network published an article to its website that was semi-critical of the tea party.

Murdoch, like Dr. Frankenstein, can no longer control the monster he's created.

Hannity is insane but can fly under the radar because Beck gets all the attention.

WARNING!! Before you read this, you should know I'm a Proud Democrat, and proud to be government regulated. This is just an exercise to desensitize the stigma attributed to "government regulation" by Palinites.

I prefer having my government regulate my chicken breasts before I grill them and take them down into the government regulated mines, where I can safely earn money to put away in a government regulated bank, so that I can afford health insurance from a government regulated market for my kids with preexisting conditions. Then I will drive home in my government regulated car with government regulated battery technology down government regulated roads, across government regulated bridges, protected by government regulated officers. And the government regulated tax break was awesome. I can now afford to paint my government regulated house with government regulated paint so that my children don't get lead p0isoning overnight. I'm thirsty, time to drink some government regulated water, brush my teeth with government regulated paste and sleep; have to wake up early for my government regulated flight.
I wish you all a great government regulated day!

Did anyone notice how Howard Kurtz and CNN gave FOX a free pass.. he actually praised Faux for doing the right thing... I m gonna see if Kurts is on twitter and point out his bias... I mean if Keith and MSNBC did this he would have had two or three segments on this issue and bashed CNN for days like he did with Dan Rather... what a joke of a media critic... I guess CNN is afraid of the Tea Baggers.

in other right wing news .. Ann Coulter has a new right wing man and it's JJ from Good Times... I hope she dosnt call him slurs...

He may just be realizing that they've been trading short-term ratings at the expense of long term market share. It's harder and harder for them to deny being a PR branch of the Republican party. Their staff now freely admits that they're just entertainers and going for ratings, yet on every show they still wrap themselves up in the American flag and try to pass themselves off as true patriots. After a while it just wears thin. He has to realize that FOX is in serious danger of inciting some real violence with real consequences. All it'sgoing to take is one tea-party patriot going rogue with a shotgun and a back seat full of Glenn Beck books.

Murdoch is backpedaling from the Tea Bag movement because it's hurting the Republican party and the writing is on the wall, the local Tea Party groups are already suspicious and resentful of the GOP using it to raise money, so once the RNC has leeched all the cash out of the TP movement for the 2010 elections, it is going to let it wither on the vine. Murdoch doesn't want his ship to sink with the torpedo the GOP is going to deep six the Tea Baggers with...

This is all an attempt to make the Tea Party a 'grassroots' movement. Last week they endorsed 1 'democrat' and now Fox is all of a sudden, 'not supporting' them.
Get the picture, wink, wink?

What's next? They name as the movement's leader. Mrs Clarence Thomas since, 'shes as close as we could come without actually picking one (African American).'

Whaaaaaaaaaaa?????

Okay, Rupe what's the deal? Gaining a conscious in your old age. Are corporatists who are behind the tea baggers trying to manipulate and control you, Rupie? Did you find out that the two Saudi Princes are doing an end-around with your company by sowing seeds of dissent for their own Islamic agenda??

Why Rupert? WHY ??????????

Now that the Tea Party is arming themselves as militias, Fox has realized what a minefield (and civil litigation nightmare) dealing with them has become. If they blow anything up, I say we all sue the deep pockets of Fox (every last one of them).

Agreed. Sue FOX over "fighting words". Not protected by the first amendment btw.

Since when does reporting the news mean you help make it? Fox promoted the tea parties, they've used incendatory rhetoric to push a right agenda and now they realize the potential liability for riling up a group of lunatics with false information.

When "fighting words" lead to the creation of a domestic enemy, and worse several large groups of domestic enemies, I think your first amendment rights wear thin.

Freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest are protected by the constitution. However, inciting violence is a crime. I don't personally know if Fox news has ever crossed that line, but there is a legal distinction.

They are looking to do it within the scope of the law. I guess you have issues with the bill of rights. Or just like every other lib you like to pick what rights You think are worth supporting. But you keep that dream alive and one day some loon will blow something else up and you can exploit it as an 'I told you so'

Who is trying to do what legally? The Hutaree? Is that what you mean 'legally'. Or did you just have a brain fart and forget about them.

I think militias are fine if all they do is play army in the woods and behave. But this is not always the case. Cross the line and they become a terrorist group plain and simple and should be treated accordingly. Call them enemy combatants and water board those suckers. Wait, Wait! That was the last administration. I mean, allow then due process under the law.

Is that what you meant?

I personally only think the weak minded watch Fox anyway so whatever their viewing audience does would not surprise me.

McVeigh was in the scope of the law, until he wasn't. I was a police officer for a number of years and one of my jobs was working under cover in local para-military militias. Only a fool wouldn't anticipate that the arming of these groups isn't going to end well. I do believe in all of the bill of rights, but a group that wants to get rid of the federal government often doesn't, along with federal firearm laws.
