President Obama has signed the health care bill into law.
“Today, after almost a century of trying, today, after over a year of debate, today, after all the votes have been tallied, health insurance reform becomes law in the United States of America,” Obama said at the White House.Obama signed the bill in the East Room, before a crowd that included all 219 House members who voted for final passage of the bill on Sunday. Also in attendance: Vicki Kennedy, the widow of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., a long-time proponent of a national health care plan.

John Avlon at The Daily Beast highlights a new Harris poll that shows how ignorant and uninformed much of America is.
The poll, which surveyed 2,230 people right at the height of the health-care reform debate, also clearly shows that education is a barrier to extremism. Respondents without a college education are vastly more likely to believe such claims, while Americans with college degrees or better are less easily duped. It’s a reminder of what the 19th-century educator Horace Mann once too-loftily said: “Ignorance breeds monsters to fill up the vacancies of the soul that are unoccupied by…

GOP New Orleans Congressman Joseph Cao reversed his support for health care legislation because he sayks the Senate bill doesn’t go far enough to restrict funding for abortion insurance coverage. In an interview with New Orleans Times-Picauyne, Cao asserted the bill contained abortion services “At Par With Slavery“.
Cao’s statement was not only a searing affront to the African American community, but his vote threatened to deny his constituents much-needed health reform.
Think Progress reports:
- According to a report by the Center for American Progress, health reform makes a tremendous first

Missouri Democrat Emanuel Cleaver won’t press charges after being spat upon, although Capitol Police made no arrests.
[He] was making his way through a group of angry protestors when the incident occurred. It was one of several ugly incidents in a day of protests against President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul measure, which faces a House vote on Sunday.
Cleaver, who is black, was also one of several lawmakers who faced racial epithets as they walked to the Capitol to vote.
Cleaver, along with Georgia Congressman John Lewis, had to endure the “n” word…

Wiley Drake, the Southern Baptist minister and Alan Keyes running mate who infamously told me he practices imprecatory prayer for the death of President Obama, has expanded his efforts. Now, every Democrat who voted for the health care reform bill has made that prayer list.
Orange Country Pastor Wiley Drake fired off an email to his supporters this morning, telling them that all 219 Democrats have been placed on the “imprecatory prayer list.” “We’ll remember in November and pray Psalms 109 while waiting,” he urged, before listing each offending congressman by name in “Satan’s…

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich issued a statement saying the health care reform bill is more akin to what is done under Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez than how things should be conducted in the USA.
The Obama-Pelosi-Reid machine combined the radicalism of Alinsky, the corruption of Springfield and the machine power politics of Chicago. Sunday was a pressured, bought, intimidated vote worthy of Hugo Chavez but unworthy of the United States of America.
Newt repeats the conservative talking point that Congressman Alcee Hastings of Florida said, “We make up the rules as we go along,” which…

Conservatives couldn’t stop health care, but they are probably very proud of themselves for the demise of ACORN.
“It’s really declining revenue in the face of a series of attacks from partisan operatives and right-wing activist that have taken away our ability to raise the resources we need,” ACORN spokesman Kevin Whelan said.
Several of its largest affiliates, including ACORN New York and ACORN California, broke away this year and changed their names in a bid to ditch the tarnished image of their parent organization and restore revenue that ran dry in the wake…

Can you imagine if Democrats behaved this way after a vote they lost? Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Tucson had the front office of her Arizona office smashed in in the wee hours Monday morning.
At 2:40 a.m., just a few hours after staff left the building after the late-night vote, the alarm system went off, said spokesman C.J. Karamargin. The panel to the front door and the glass panel alongside it were smashed out. The perpetrator likely had to hop the gated fence to get access to the door, since it’s not viewable from the parking…
