By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 19, 2010 10:49 AM | Comment

Thankfully, the folks at BioWare responded to the chorus of Mako complaints, and next week, we'll get to see how they've improved on-world travel with the Hammerhead. Read More »

Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight Review

By Eric Neigher | PC Reviews | Mar 16, 2010 4:14 PM | Comment

EA Los Angeles (EALA) has taken the long-running real-time strategy series in a completely new direction: The base-building, resource-harvesting, tank-rushing model -- once the hallmark for RTS worldwide -- is totally dropped here. C&C4; replaces the venerable gather-and-build system with a little piece of just about every other significant RTS of the last few years; the majority of the gameplay is now rather unabashedly ripped off of Massive Entertainment's World in Conflict, while the capture-and-hold scoring system is somewhat more abashedly ripped off from Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, and the new UI (no more sidebar interface) is re-purposed from EA's own C&C;: Generals series. Sewing together all these disparate features into an RTS Frankenstein and hoping for synergy wasn't the world's best plan. Read More »

Napoleon: Total War Review

By Tom Chick | PC Reviews | Mar 16, 2010 10:27 AM | Comment

In Napoleon: Total War, history repeats itself. This elaborate brain-dead bauble of a game is like Empire: Total War all over again, with all the splendor undermined by all the same sad shortcomings to provide all the familiar heartbreak. Creative Assembly sends in the titular French tyrant to pick up where Empire left off, playing us into the 19th century. We get some new units, new names on the technologies, and a new set of story-driven campaigns that follow Napoleon's adventures. A grander campaign gives us a chance to play the other nations. Two-week turns instead of Empire's six-month turns extend the seasonal scenery for our enjoyment and strategic planning. But for the most part, this is Empire re-skinned, with that same gaping hole where the AI should have been. Read More »
