Climate Change Threatening Migratory Birds

BERJAYAHundreds of species of migratory birds are being stressed by climate change according to a report by the Interior Department.  Nearly a third of the nation’s 800 species are endangered.

For the first time, the report adds climate change to other factors threatening bird populations, including destruction of habitat, hunting, pesticides, invasive species and loss of wetlands.

The report said that oceanic and shore birds are among the most vulnerable to climate change because of rapidly changing marine ecosystems and rising sea levels.

“Birds are excellent indicators of the health of our environment, and right now they are telling us an important story about climate change,” said Kenneth Rosenberg, director of conservation ccience at Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology. “Many species of conservation concern will face heightened threats, giving us an increased sense of urgency to protect and conserve vital bird habitat.”

Texas School Board Tilts History To The Right

BERJAYA

The Texas Board of Education has revised its curriculum to include right-wing talking points on history, economics and social studies. Influenced by new board Chairwoman Gail Lowe, a creationist appointed by Governor Rick Perry, and her predecessor, dentist Don McLeroy (pictured with Lowe), Texas was able to strong-arm textbook publishers to do it their way.

Teachers in Texas will be required to cover the Judeo-Christian influences of the nation’s Founding Fathers, but not highlight the philosophical rationale for the separation of church and state. Curriculum standards also will describe the…

Alan Keyes: Normalizing Homosexuality An Effort To Make Chrisitanity Extinct

BERJAYA

Alan Keyes’s latest attack on homosexuality is extreme, even by his standards. It even comes complete with a Hitler analogy (although incomprehensible to me, as I only have a Bachelor’s degree…something about how society is being devalued by elites who are like Nietzsche, and Hitler liked Nietzsche ). (h/t RightWingWatch).

The normalization of homosexuality constitutes the cutting edge of this anti-Christian revisioning of right and wrong. It represents the utter rejection of the notion that we exist as part of a God-ordained whole whose nature has authoritative relevance to our understanding of the form…

Are Brothel Ads Protected By The First Amendment?

BERJAYA

Not according to the supposedly liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The AP reports:

A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld a Nevada law that bars legal brothels that operate in some of the state’s rural areas from advertising by newspaper, leaflets and billboards in Las Vegas, Reno and other places where prostitution is illegal.

Prostitution is legal in most Nevada counties, but of course many state residents still oppose it. Their views, the court seemed to suggest, outweigh the right to free speech:

“The Nevada laws appropriately limited commercial speech,” the 9th Circuit said. “We…

Karl Rove “Proud” Of Bush Use Of Waterboarding

BERJAYA

In a BBC interview, Bush White House adviser Karl Rove said he’s “proud” of harsh interrogation techniques and said they prevented attacks.

“I’m proud that we used techniques that broke the will of these terrorists and gave us valuable information that allowed us to foil plots such as flying aeroplanes into Heathrow and into London, bringing down aircraft over the Pacific, flying an aeroplane into the tallest building in Los Angeles and other plots,” Mr Rove told the BBC.

“Yes, I’m proud that we kept the world safer than it was, by the use…

Neal Horsley Arrested For Terrorist Threat Against Elton John

BERJAYA

Neal Horsley, founder of the Creator’s Rights Party, who achieved infamy for publishing names and addresses of abortion doctors on his website, has been arrested for making terroristic threats against Elton John.  Horsley put online a video of himself with a sign saying, “Elton John must die.”

In the video posted Feb. 28 on YouTube, Horsley held the sign in front of a building where he said John has a condo. John’s publicist, Fran Curtis, confirmed that John has an Atlanta apartment but declined further comment.

Horsley was upset that John, who is gay,…
