Frank Robles Candidate for Riverside County Sheriff will provide Leadership
Frank Robles is concerned about the Riverside County Sheriff's Budget. So concerned that when Frank Robles announced his candidacy for Riverside County Sheriff, he offered to take a 10% pay cut upon election to the office. It took several weeks for his opponent to recognize the importance and significance of this gesture, and then he went ahead and announced plans to do the same thing.
As an additional cost saving measure, Frank Robles also called for vacating all four assistant sheriff positions and for reviews of every single administrative and management position in the Department. Frank also suggested vacating positions that the department could double up on assignments where practical. He also called for the elimination of the Legislative Analyst position. All of these cuts are practical, non-nonsense solutions. These changes to the department are not optimal, but we’re not working with a budgetary best-case scenario – these changes are something that needs to be done to respond to this financial crisis.
Once again it took the current sheriff several weeks to figure out that Frank Robles was right and to start leaving positions vacant, but you can see that the current sheriff is being reactive rather than proactive. Frank's opponent is just leaving positions vacant as they arise.
Where is the leadership? Frank's opponent spends most of his time raising money and collecting endorsements and very little time running the Department. He appears to be underestimating the seriousness of the financial crisis. But if he does understand the seriousness, his response has to date been very slow and ineffective.
Frank's opponent may say that Frank is wrong about all of this, but then Frank will talk about the Sheriff's current budget. The way over budget, budget.
