To be honest, while I like this picture I would not have chosen it as my photo for today were it not for the unanimous input from my wife, daughter and mother. My first choice was the dogwood but sometimes you just have to listen to reason.

Another beautiful day today in Vancouver. Normally I would be rushing Gabby off the jungle gym so we could quickly get her to taekwondo or gymnastics. Today I let her play just a bit longer and took the opportunity to take some pictures. That is her friend Viktor in the background.

This picture is of a set of skylights atop the 2nd floor of my office building. My office is on the third level so I could simply walk out to get this shot. As you can see, it is a beautiful blue sky day here in Vancouver.

Which is a nice excuse for the fact that I have been letting my old gray hair grow to hippie-esque lengths. Well, today was the day I let Sandra “chemically remove” the ethnicity from my kinky Italian locks.
As you can see, Gabby has a skeptical look in her eye as things get under way. The good news is the hair is now straight and Gabby seems to like it.
By the way, this is the first day in over 45 days that I did not take a single photo with my DSLR (this was taken with my Blackberry as you can see). Judging from the quality of this camera phone pic there won’t be many more like this.

I am so disappointed.
On my way home from work this afternoon this georgous rainbow appeared and so I whipped out my Canon and started snapping photos out the window of the car. Sadly, I neglected to change my ISO settings from my night time shoot last night. As such, what would have been some beautiful captures now contain 1600 ISO grain.
Ugh.
You live and you learn.

I took a pile of pictures but this was the best one. I decided to post both the color and black and white versions to give you some context.

In roughly 1.5 hours the US mens hockey team will face off against the Canadians for 2010 Olympic Gold. This young team of Americans was not expected to make it into the medal rounds let alone play for the gold but timely goals and stellar play by goalie Ryan Miller have us dreaming of the top of the podium.
As an American living in Vancouver I can not stress enough what is riding on this game. Whatever the end result, I am proud of the USA, proud of Vancovuer as a host city (you rocked!) and priviledged to be a part of this celebration of the human spirit.
Now, as I noted on Facebook earlier when I saw this photo from my Flickr buddy jeremylim, I love you Canada, but today I am rooting for your demise.
USA! USA! USA!
P.S. The mask was a gift from Vicky and Gabby for my 41st birthday yesterday.

I began this morning as I have nearly every other for the past 13 years, looking at this face. This is Vicky. She is my partner, my wife, my best friend, the mother of my only child and my inspiration.
Today I turned 41 and she is the reason I want to turn 42 and 52 and hopefully 102.

My advice? Never go shopping when you are hungry.
The upside? I got a bag of delicious little subjects for today’s 365 photo.

I have been meaning to play around with the idea of portraying motion lately. I ended up speaking with my friend Chris about how to achieve motion and he gave me some great tips. Sadly, I did not have any time to really test them out.
Instead, I had exactly two tries to get a car passing me at the stop light at the intersection of Gilmore and Lougheed in Burnaby. The result is this picture. Not great, but it’s a start.
Expect more use of motion in the days to come.

Man, that Team USA victory over Canada today really took a toll on everyone in my household. Vicky and I both were facing four years of ridicule at the hands of our Canadian co-workers had the US been beaten. Thank the Gods for Ryan Miller!
Kira, pictured here doing her best post party Sorority girl, was actually conked out from playing around with Gabby and her friend all day PRIOR to the game.
I love how her tongue was hanging half way out of her mouth. Cute.

I spent the day today in Richmod with our friends at the Science World temporary location in Aberdeen Centre. After the kid fun was over we walked through the mall and came upon a bizarre Lamborghini retail store. I kid you not. It was a retail store that had two Lamborghini’s and a counter with one douche bag standing behind it.
This particular Lamborghini, unlike it’s poor cousin on the other side of the 30 ft. wide store front, was surrounded by a movie theater-style rope line. Now, I will be turning 41 next week and I am pretty sure I don’t look like a complete moron but when I poked my head under the rope line to snap this photo the aforementioned Lamborghini-retail-douche bag immediately strode over to me and proceeded to tap me on the shoulder as I am snapping this shot (I blame him for the slight ghosting around the logo). He then says, “if you drop your camera on the car and scratch it, you buy it!”
Yea.
Hey guy selling $350,000 cars in a Chinese Mall in Richmond, that thing around my neck is a camera strap and this is definitely not Pottery Barn.
Douche bag.
