Last we heard from Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman, the media conglomerate was looking for a hefty refund from Rock Band creator Harmonix following a lackluster 2009. And substantial layoffs at the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based developer cast the future of its music game franchise in doubt. But for now, at least, all is well. Publisher Take-Two Interactive has plenty to smile about after a fiscal first quarter that included surprise hit Borderlands (two million-plus copies sold), NBA 2K10 (two million-plus), and continued strong sales of Grand Theft Auto IV and Carnival Games. But the company's overall financial results are a sobering reminder of the state of the industry: Take-Two reported a $33 million net loss and said it plans a 15% reduction in "corporate headcount."
