What's next for Zipper's shooter?
Set your phasers to meh.
Who wants pie and puzzles?
What's the hardest game ever made? While I'll take any good opportunity to rail on the speeder bike level from Battletoads, or the hellish corridor leading up to Castlevania's grim reaper boss, or the shuriken-throwing jetpack ninjas from the original Ninja Gaiden (Stage 6-2 -- if you've played this game, I doubt I need to elaborate), indie masochist-job I Wanna Be the Guy unquestionably tops them all. This 2D side-scrolling homage to 8-bit meat-grinders amps the obstacles to parody levels, lulling you into a false sense of nostalgia-prompted security with its retro intro (ripped straight from Mega Man 2, no less) and then proceeding to eviscerate you in the very first screen.

Sometimes game names are pretty self-explanatory, as with PixelJunk Shooter or Puzzle Quest. On the other hand, you might assume that a name like The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom doesn't really tell you anything. But you'd be wrong. Sure, the name doesn't relay that Winterbottom is in fact a wonderful, challenging, and incredibly rewarding puzzle game that involves twisting time and creating clones of yourself, but it gets one thing across very clearly: It's not a game that takes itself too seriously, and it's not afraid to get downright silly. Kratos is at it again. Fans of the God of War series that feared Sony Computer Entertainment might tone down its viscerally violent franchise can rest assured: The ESRB has officially rated the upcoming God of War III "M" for mature.
And not only will the game's protagonist be taking part in "exaggerated acts of violence" and "frequent killing," according to ESRB's rating review Kratos will once again work his wiles on a goddess in the return of the GoW sex mini-game. Thanks to our friends at IGN, we have a copy of the detailed description the ESRB concocted... Read More »

Videogames are about to get a whole lot better-looking. Begin pondering the future awesomeness of games after the jump. Read More »
The sad truth is that there isn't a single hit or innovation in the "me-too" world of gaming that some spreadsheet jockey or fledgling developer utterly bereft of originality hasn't tried to rip off. It's the American way, after all. In fact, a quick search for the newly released (and still awesome) Plants vs. Zombies on the iPhone app store also yields the blatantly uninspired clone knock-off, Pigs vs. Wolves. Yes, Pigs vs. Wolves. We've reached a brave new low for creative deficit.
So it only stands to reason that some of these self-appointed geniuses are, right this second, trying to figure out how to best steal some of the thunder from GameSpy's 2009 PC Game of the Year, Plants vs. Zombies. Read More »

Capcom's Lost Planet 2 is coming pretty soon. It won't, however, be shipping out with all of the original content that the development team wanted to see in the final product. Kotaku reports that Capcom's producer Jun Takeuchi recently spoke about how the limited storage capacity of the Xbox 360's DVD media was a stumbling block for the team. The PlayStation 3's Blu-ray discs would not have presented a problem... Read More »

But what does the game look like? We've scooped up the first official shots, which you can see by clicking through to the gallery. Looks good, innit? See More »
When EA decided to make the cover guy of its Medal of Honor reboot appear like some kind of rogue bearded biker, we were left scratching our heads. Well, as long as this guy has some military training and knows his way around a couple of deserts. And judging from this new selection of images we've picked up, the reboot is promising to be one good-looking affair. Battlefield and Call of Duty beware? You decide... See More »

MAG is a game that provides a variety of experiences. At its best it delivers the thrill of huge battles, complete with great leaders who actually turn the tide of the fight. And at its worst it falls apart, with command structures becoming all but nonexistent as players treat it like a gigantic deathmatch. But the thing that I wanted to find out when I recently interviewed Zipper Designer Ben Jones was why Zipper wanted to try something like MAG (as opposed to the smaller SOCOM games it made a name for itself with), and whether or not the team felt that it had fulfilled its original vision for MAG. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick took the mic at the DICE Summit today, less than a week after his $4.2 billion company laid off more than 90 employees and shuttered a handful of studios. The timing made the title of his keynote presentation all the more ironic: "How Creative Talent Drives the Videogame Industry." Find out how Kotick tried to smooth things over after the jump. Capped by MAG's absurd "up to 256 players only" limit, rejected gamer Tim "Batman" Glibbons can only dream of what his fellow gamers will be playing for a few days until they go back to Modern Warfare 2.
