"Given the strength of GTA IV in 2008, the question may seem misplaced, but our concern is that the very highly-rated new GTA content for Xbox as well as PSP and DS did not perform up to expectations in 2009," he said."Now, we very clearly understand that these do not represent 'true' new GTA titles. However, the fact is that these were compelling titles, attractively priced, and reasonably well-promoted, yet they fell relatively flat.""We do not mean to pour salt on an open wound, but this does raise questions about the strength of packs for [Rockstar parent company] Take Two Entertainment's crown jewel. It is an issue we will monitor closely. We also note that we expect increased competition in the open-world action genre in 2010 and beyond."
"GTA IV was at least a 50 hour game, in contrast to the typical Call Of Duty which is a six to ten hour game. Almost anyone who bought COD finished it, and if they liked it they were interested in DLC," he said."On the other hand, my guess is that fewer than 20% of GTA owners finished the game so fewer were interested in DLC. I think that is a fair assessment, and don't think that the slow pace of DLC sales reflects poor performance for the franchise."
-DEEP-SLUDGE- posted:Wow, that COD4 remark hit the nail on the head. I'm a huge GTA fan, but I stopped half way through GTA4. I did, however; finish COD4, it was so short! It pissed me off at first, but now I recognize that it was a genius move. The reason I haven't bought the DLC is because I still have the other half of GTA4 to play, I also think this is the case with most people.
Agent677 posted:Yeah, it peaked....with San Andreas. If only 20% completed the game that should tell you all you need to know. I think the Housers grew up and focused far too much making GTA realistic/mature/serious or whatever. Good job sucking the fun out of the game. R* better bring back the perks/awards/toys, humor, and good music if they want to revive what was special about the earlier GTAs. Oh, and don't give PC gamers the shaft. Make the PC version as the benchmark with all the bells and whistles. Don't dumb it down for the sake of the consoles. Follow my advice and you have a recipe for success.
Agent677 posted:As far as peaking with San Andreas, I just meant in terms of sales. I believe GTA IV has sold in the neighborhood of 13M where SA has sold around 30M between both consoles. Yes, Vice City was the Housers best work. I know the graphics weren't anything to compare to IV, but I didn't play it for graphics. I played it and loved it because it was fun. I think 3 and SA were great, though they weren't my fav. IV is my least favorite. They need to turn the game over to someone younger who can focus on the fun aspects instead try to make it super realistic. IV's environment is great, but they squandered it. You can't do much with it and the ammo caps are dumb. Very easy to put down IMO.
