Reading the thread I’m struck by two things.

First, the general lack of understanding and misuse of the concept “Politically Correct”. Pleasing western PC sensibilities isn’t the issue. Dealing with the culture in foreign lands we are fighting is what we are attempting.

Second, the eagerness and gusto that FR employs to throw the General under the bus. A man who was nearly worshiped just a year ago. The man many wanted for president. Nobody wanting to give him even the smallest benefit of the doubt as an expert on what is needed to fight our wars in Islamic territories, and what might hinder our efforts and unnecessarily endanger US troops.

Good morning, gentle people! The "Do not send Haitian help-moneys to Obama" edition left some residual scum on the floor of the iso chamber that seems resistant to even carboranes acid, so I've put down some wooden pallets for the time being -  please watch your step.

Well, with the coronation of Scott Brown ( or as I like to refer to him, Teabag-action Ken ) as King Of All Creation, you'd think the Freepers would be on top of the world.  They've persevered throughout losing both houses and the Presidency, mostly over Chimpy McFlightsuit (on whom they turned like a rabid dog), and generally sat it out  at the bottom of the bad-luck pile for some time now.  This should be a time of great exultation for them.

Co-op cuts Christmas box link with US charity

Bibles and anti-Islamic remarks trigger split with evangelical group

The Co-operative Society has severed its links with an evangelical charity whose leader in the United States condemned Islam as a "very wicked and evil religion".

Following complaints from Muslim pressure groups and its own members, the Co-op yesterday said it would no longer participate in Operation Christmas Child, a project supported by thousands of schools, churches and other organisations.

(...)  the venture has run into controversy. There was strong criticism when it emerged that bibles and Christian literature were being inserted into gift boxes sent to Muslim countries.

Those difficulties have been exacerbated by comments made by the Rev Franklin Graham, the American evangelical minister whose organisation, Samaritan's Purse, runs Operation Christmas Child.

During the dedication of a chapel in North Carolina, one month after the terrorist attacks on the US on September 11 2001, he said: "We're not attacking Islam, but Islam has attacked us. The God of Islam is not the same God. It's a different god, and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion." Asked to justify his stance, he said later: "I don't believe this [Islam] is this wonderful, peaceful religion."

(...)in a letter informing the charity of its decision to withdraw completely, the Co-op said the views of members and customers must come first.

"You are aware that we have received a large number of complaints regarding the comments of your trustee, Franklin Graham. Indeed, had we been aware of his views in advance, we would not have participated in Operation Christmas Child this year. It is unfortunate that our work together has come to an end in this way, as the shoe boxes of customers' gifts will undoubtedly bring joy to many deserving children this year."

I do want to help out, really I do. However, the problem I have is that we send millions upon millions of dollars to hellholes like Haiti and what happens to the money? It doesn’t get to where it is needed. It is disheartening.

Family friend Christina Stuckey, who answered the phone at Chesnutt's home, confirmed the death to The Associated Press. Chesnutt's record label, Constellation Records, said in a statement on its Web site that Chesnutt died on Christmas Day, Friday.

The problems baffled his Canadian bandmates, Chesnutt said.

"There's nowhere else in the world that I'd be facing the situation I'm in right now. They cannot understand what kind of society would inflict that on their population," he said. "It's terrifying."

Did the Canadian health system take care of this guy all these years? If it was soooooo wonderful, WHY did he get treated HERE in the USA (with it's 'terrifying' health care system) instead of GOING TO CANADA FOR FREE TREATMENT?!?!?!

Good Monday morning,  everyone! Having grown up in Texas was an unparalleled experience. Having been my Father's sole ranch hand, even more so. Splitting my time between riding fence and riding in a school bus gave me a perspective that not many get to experience, and straddling Bubbaland and the rest of the world was always a balancing act.  

I was exposed to the best of Texana (self-reliance and connection to the land), and the worst (Sundown Towns and hard bigotry served up with a soft smile) every single day.  This is why the wingnuttia meme of Texas secession hits me especially hard.  Having said that, I'm ready to suit up and pry open a big ol' bubbling drum of secessionist slime.

Like passengers on a train headed too fast for a curve in the track, we can (at least most of us can) see the impending danger in front of us, and most have a strong suspicion that we will not survive the coming wreck. We are also afraid to jump off of the doomed train for fear that we will be hurt when we make our exit. There may be rough ground outside and we may suffer pain and injury. It is certainly a thuggish and dangerous thing for Obama to play with National Security over this craptacular idea of socialized medicine. Quite a desperate move.

According to a Senate aide, the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska’s Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn’t fall into line. Offutt Air Force Base employs some 10,000 military and federal employees in Southeastern Nebraska. As our source put it, this is a “naked effort by Rahm Emanuel and the White House to extort Nelson’s vote.” They are “threatening to close a base vital to national security for what?” asked the Senate staffer.

Indeed, Offutt is the headquarters for US Strategic Command, the successor to Strategic Air Command, and not by accident. STRATCOM was located in the middle of the country for strategic reasons. Its closure would be a massive blow to the economy of the state of Nebraska, but it would also be another example of this administration playing politics with our national security.

So much for the idea of Obama trying to save jobs and improve the economy!

Without Nelson’s vote, since all Republicans are still in line to oppose this, Reid is still left with 59 votes. So, some arm twisting is taking place. Nelson doesn’t want this bill to fund abortions so he is now being threatened, and national security along with him. How shameful this would be if Democrats felt shame.

"Search results are a reflection of the content on the web. Our search results simply reflect what's out there," Google spokesman Scott Rubin explained. "According to the way our algorithm works, when we try to deliver the most relevant search results based on other pages that link to it and so on, this is what is returned."
He said it was possible that the image ranked so high because people were linking to it to condemn it, but noted that there was no way for the company to know for sure. Page rank is the result of "more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms," according to Google.
"Because the image is offensive to many, we felt it was important to explain to our users why an image like that would appear," Rubin said.
The racist image was previously removed by Google in response to a complaint by Search Engine Roundtable, which objected that "If you conduct a search in Google Images for [Michelle Obama] you will see a racist image in the number one result."

In a heartfelt talk that moved some in the crowd to tears, Prejean recounted for the 1,700 activists gathered for the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit in Washington how distressing it was to go from shoo-in for Miss USA to not only losing, but being reviled and mocked for the answer on gay marriage she gave to pageant judge Perez Hilton, the celebrity gossip blogger.

“I knew as soon as I didn’t give the PC answer, I knew there was no way I would become Miss USA,” said Prejean, 22.

She had gone into the pageant in April believing herself to be the front-runner, and had spent months preparing: she had makeup coaches, walking coaches, accent modification coaches. For the question-and-answer portion of the pageant, she felt more than prepared because she had studied 500 questions. But then came Hilton’s question.

“Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize gay marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”

“I saw all my prep fly by me,” said Prejean.

Who are you to criticize another man’s servant? The most beautiful thing about Miss Prejean is her character. In an instant, doing what was right was more important to her than fulfilling her personal ambition, that she had worked so hard to get. She is a wonderful example to us all. The video the lawyer showed Carrie is extremely graphic and has never been released publicly. We know that, because TMZ obtained the video months ago but decided not to post it because it was so racy. Let's just say, Carrie has a promising solo career.

We're told it took about 15 seconds for Carrie to jettison her demand and essentially walk away with nothing. As we first reported, the Pageant is paying around $100,000 to her lawyers and publicist -- a fraction of her bills. She pockets nothing in the settlement.

I can recall some time ago being excoriated on these threads for recommending that conservatives distance themselves from this woman who was clearly unstable and bent on making everyone associated with her look as ridiculous as she is.

Whatever, like an outbreak of herpes another eruption occurred, I noticed the support for Dr. Orly Taitz to be less and less vehement. Hopefully those of us who believe that the issue should be investigated and properly aired, will not be blackened as "trolls" because we tell the truth about this eccentric woman.

U.S. District Court Judge Clay Land today tossed out a complaint by an Army captain fighting deployment to Iraq by questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama.

Land also put attorney Orly Taitz, who represents Capt. Connie Rhodes and is a leader in the national “birther” movement, on notice by stating that she could face sanctions if she ever files a similar “frivolous” lawsuit in his court.

“(Rhodes) has presented no credible evidence and has made no reliable factual allegations to support her unsubstantiated, conclusory allegations and conjecture that President Obama is ineligible to serve as president of the United States,” Land states in his order. “Instead, she uses her complaint as a platform for spouting political rhetoric, such as her claims that the president is ‘an illegal usurper, an unlawful pretender, [and] an unqualified imposter.’”

Rhodes, who filed her complaint Sept. 4 in the Columbus Division of U.S. District Court, argued that some facts point to Obama not being naturalized or possibly an illegal immigrant.

“This plaintiff cannot in good conscience obey orders originating from a chain of command from this merely de facto president,” Rhodes’ complaint states. “This plaintiff cannot be lawfully compelled to obey this de facto president’s orders.”

In his order, Land states in a footnote that Obama defeated seven opponents in a “grueling” primary campaign that cost the contenders more than $300 million. Obama then moved on to the general election, where he faced Sen. John McCain, who Land states got $84 million to wage his campaign.

“It would appear that ample opportunity existed for discovery of evidence that would support any contention that the president was not eligible for the office he sought,” Land says.

The judge adds that Congress hasn’t started impeachment proceedings against Obama, appears satisfied that he can hold the office and has rejected the suggestion he isn’t.

"I think that there is a place for the President of the United States to talk to school children and encourage school children, and I think there are a lot of people that should do the same," she told CNN's Zain Verjee. "And that is encourage their own children to stay in school and to study hard and to try to achieve the dream that they have."
The former first lady said she believed criticism of the speech had arisen because of the accompanying lesson plans. If parents are opposed to the address, said Bush, "That's their right. You know that certainly is the right of parents to choose what they want their children to hear in school… (But) I think it's also really important for everyone to respect the President of the United States."
Does she think it's fair to criticize Obama, as some have, by labeling him a socialist? "I'd have no idea whether it's fair, do you think I thought it was fair when President Bush was criticized — not really. So, I guess not," she responded.

Here is video of a citizen of Maine calling for the resignations of Maine GOP Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, and Rep. Michaud because they voted for President Obama's Stimulus Bill. He made the statement at a Town Hall Meeting with a lot of people - but with no Senators or legislators present. Instead, participants had put chairs at the front with pictures of their legislators in the chairs! The man talked to the pictures in calling for their resignations!
That's what it has come to. The people are so fed up with what is happening they will find a way to make their voices heard, even if legislators don't want to listen!

A series of explosions struck the Iraqi capital Wednesday, targeting primarily government and commercial buildings, killing at least 50 people and wounding more than 300 others, Iraqi police told Reuters.
The blasts follow a string of attacks in Iraq this month that have claimed more than 200 lives and left hundreds more wounded, raising concerns about the abilities of Iraqi security forces to keep the lid on violence in advance of the American withdrawal.
The seemingly coordinated car bomb blasts and mortar attacks began around midmorning Wednesday, striking first near the Finance Ministry in northern Baghdad and then minutes later by the Foreign Ministry near the Green Zone.
The deadliest explosion occurred near the Foreign Ministry, just outside Baghdad's heavily protected Green Zone, killing at least seven and wounding at least 55 people, an Iraqi police and medical official said.
A 10-story building that is part of the ministry complex was badly damaged. The explosion was so strong that it also damaged nearby buildings and destroyed dozens of car outside, according to AP Television News footage. A huge area outside the ministry was covered by debris and broken glass
