BioShock 2 Multiplayer Preview & Trailer
- BERJAYA 0 Comments
A three-page BioShock 2 preview accompanies a new trailer that introduces players to the sequel's multiplayer mode:

When you first start up the multiplayer you'll be treated to a few bits of story. You'll see an intro video and you'll even get an apartment. This space is actually pretty nice as far as Rapture standards go, with cushy furniture in the large interior space, large windows that look out upon the city's seabed sprawl, and even its own bathysphere. All this stuff basically functions like a glorified options menu, but it's still a nice inclusion. You can keep track of the limited multiplayer story here too, listening through audio recordings as they're delivered while you blast away at others online.

This'll probably take you a few minutes to look through, but before long you're going to want to dive into the action. Here's where you'll have to start making choices, because BioShock 2's online component is built in a manner similar to that of Modern Warfare. There's an overall rank and unlock progression where you're rewarded for success on the battlefield with new weapons, plasmids and tonics. You then can go into a loadout customization menu and set up how you want your character to work, which means like in Modern Warfare or Counter-Strike you're building your own class.

For those out the loop, the PC version requires the use of Games For Windows Live. Matches are 5v5, and hosted exclusively on user's machines, as with Modern Warfare 2.

Steam Downtime Planned
- BERJAYA 13 Comments
A three-hour Steam downtime is on the books for Thursday evening. Unfortunately, many Steam services will go offline, along with the ability to play certain games, such as Dawn Of War II:

Beginning at 6:00 pm Pacific time Thursday February 4th, we will be performing software maintenance on some Steam servers. We expect the resulting downtime to last three hours at most, putting the end of the window at 9:00 pm Pacific time.

Some Steam services will be offline during this time. Affected services will include the Steam Community, in-game matchmaking or lobbies, downloading games from Steam content servers, and making purchases from the Steam store. Games that do not rely on Steam matchmaking services should remain playable.

We will work to make this downtime as short as possible. Thank you for your patience!

Want To Play A Ferengi In Star Trek Online? Pay Up Bitches!
- BERJAYA 32 Comments
Some Star Trek Online subscribers are raging against the Cryptic machine right now, as people have come to realize that two playable races were held back from the game, and are already being offered as PAID DLC. Although some pre-orders came with "Cryptic Points" in which you can use to purchase the Federation Ferengi and Klingon races, those who did not pre-order the game are required to buck up to unlock the goods.

Furthermore, apparently the Ferengi females are an inaccurate representation of the Ferengi race, as they are FULLY CLOTHED. A Ferengi female wearing clothing in the Star Trek series would have been banished. Micro-transactions are typically limited to cosmetic upgrades and non-combat pets, however, one post also states that when purchased, Klingon Officers come with some decent stats, which is certainly more than a cosmetic purchase.

A few posts state that the Klingons were removed from the game during beta, and Cryptic stated (at the time) that it was due to a graphics glitch. Instead they were pulled off the assembly line to be sold to the highest bidder. Some players defend Cryptic's choice to make the two races DLC, saying that in the lore you do not see a lot of Ferengi and Klingons in the federation. Well, hello, you see even less "Liberated Borg".

Let the games begin!

The Secret World In-Game Trailer
- BERJAYA 8 Comments
A most tenuous use of the words "in-game," I admit, but this footage is the first 'real' look at Secret World since the release of a few screenshots last year:

Funcom is proud to reveal the first ever in-game footage from the highly anticipated modern-day massively multiplayer game `The Secret World'. The location footage consists of grainy and distorted black and white shots that give a unique and mysterious glimpse into the town of Kingsmouth – one of the many locations from all over the real world to be featured `The Secret World'. In the game, as the video shows, horrific events have befallen the sleepy New England town.

"There are darker and far more terrifying things in Kingsmouth than the walking dead," says Senior Producer and Director Ragnar Tørnquist. "The video simply scratches the surface and reveals only a tiny glimpse of what this location is all about. Kingsmouth harbors ancient secrets and dark conspiracies that players have to work together to uncover - along with a menagerie of evil, including creatures from myth and legend, and horrors from the sea. A mysterious mist has enshrouded the entire Solomon Island, and it will be up to the players to figure out what's happened and to stop this terror from spreading further."

Earlier this month Funcom executed an elaborate ARG (alternate reality game) initiative where the 250.000 members strong community surrounding the game were given clues that helped them discover the Kingsmouth website – the online presence for the New England town. This provided them with a unique insight into the location that is featured in the game. Blood covered postcards featuring a `Greetings from Kingsmouth' message were also mailed out to journalists all over the world. This initiative is now reaching its climax with the release of the Kingsmouth location video footage.

"The video consists entirely of in-game footage, except for the obvious color modifications and distortion effects," says Erling Ellingsen, Director of Communications at Funcom. "One of the reasons why we have chosen to reveal the footage in this unique way is because we are saving the undistorted, full color in-game footage for the Game Developer Conference in March. Our plan right now is to showcase actual gameplay for the first time ever to the media at GDC, as well as releasing all-new footage to the public at the same time. Of course, much can happen before March and some of the gamers out there might want to keep their tin foil hats on and their eyes keenly open for more mysterious clues to appear."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call Of Pripyat Review
- BERJAYA 16 Comments
EuroGamer's run the first online, English-language review of GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call Of Pripyat, which is shipping out to stores in North America and Europe via a variety of mickey mouse distributors. Overall, EuroGamer seem pretty chuffed, awarding the Eastern-European action oddity with a darn decent 8/10:

The one big question you have left is the one most prominently bequeathed by Call of Pripyat's storied predecessors. Is it broken?

Amazingly the answer, this time, is no. That's not to say it's completely flawless - I experienced a couple of crashes to the desktop, and co-ordinating anything with the slightly clumsy AI actions can still be a grind. But essentially the experience is bug-free.

STALKER. Unbroken, without being modded. If you're a fan, this is basically what you've been waiting for - a fully functioning STALKER which combines the best aspects of Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky and polishes them to a slightly creaky charm.

Only the slight sensation of datedness prevents this from scoring higher, and no doubt once the mods start flowing the value for money will get even better. But there's plenty here to keep the faithful feeling extremely optimistic about the prospect of a proper sequel. And there's still nothing out there quite like STALKER.

BERJAYA BERJAYA BERJAYA

A benchmark application has been available for some time, letting you see how the new game runs on your rig.

Update: A few people wrote in asking where S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call Of Pripyat is on sale in North America. As always, the answer is Amazon.

Microsoft Unveils SideWinder X4 Keyboard
- BERJAYA 14 Comments
Sixty bucks snags you backlighting, macro recording, profile switching, and a new 'anti-ghosting technology' that'll likely only be of use to Korean StarCraft masters:

What gamers request most is better control in-game, and today Microsoft Hardware launches the SideWinder X4 Keyboard, a keyboard designed to give gamers more control over their gaming experience with the industry’s most advanced anti-ghosting technology. Developed by the Applied Sciences Group, this new technology ensures gamers’ most complex key combinations will be recognized by the computer to keep the game in action. The new keyboard also offers other advanced gaming features such as macro recording, mode and profile switching, and adjustable backlighting.

I Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost

The Applied Sciences Group, an interdisciplinary research and development team that works across the Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division doing applied research for Microsoft Hardware, Microsoft Surface and Xbox 360, developed the anti-ghosting technology with gamers in mind. The advanced technology takes anti-ghosting to the next level by allowing gamers to press up to 26 keys at once. Because each key is scanned independently by the keyboard hardware, each key press is correctly detected regardless of how many other keys are being pressed at the same time. The SideWinder X4 Keyboard excels where other keyboards fail, letting users execute key combinations and taking full advantage of their skill and speed.

“We’re always looking for new and novel ways to enhance people’s interactions with their PCs,” said Steven Bathiche, research manager of the Applied Sciences Group at Microsoft. “We know that ghosting can be a problem for gamers, so we wanted to develop a way to eliminate this issue and improve the overall gaming experience, and we’ve succeeded with the new anti-ghosting technology in the SideWinder X4 Keyboard.”

Precise Gaming Keyboard With Advanced Features

The SideWinder X4 Keyboard also offers more of the features gamers need to stay at the top of their game. Macro recording lets them string together multiple moves into one press of a button, and the new automatic macro repetition feature lets them repeat the macro over and over as needed with one key. Mode and profile switching also provides easy ways to customize the keyboard for different games and users while adjustable backlighting lets gamers select the lighting level that meets their needs.

Pricing & Availability

The SideWinder X4 Keyboard will be available in March 2010 for the estimated retail price of $59.95 (U.S) and will be available for pre-sale on Amazon.com later this week. The SideWinder X4 Keyboard is backed by a worldwide three-year limited hardware warranty.
