The MacView: An incredibly well-done concept tablet

The concept of the MacView is different: rather than a single slab of aluminum and glass that looks like a large iPhone, Brzezinski has a "slider" design made out of carbon fiber materials. The MacView can be used as simply a tablet, or the slider section -- which is also a display -- can turn into a nook-like sub-display showing a Cover Flow view of files or songs, or into a full-sized virtual keyboard when pulled out a bit further.
Brzezinski's vision doesn't stop at the design of the device. He's also created an iMac-like dock for the MacView into which the device can be placed to turn it into a full desktop machine. He even designed packaging for the MacView.
The Pineapple Blog has many of the concept drawings with English translations, and you can see the full portfolio over at The Behance Network.

That's what I was thinking! I think sliders are tacky on phones, and they would be tacky on a tablet PC as well. They're totally useless on a tablet PC since you can only type one handed. You would need to lay the computer flat to be able to type!

I agree that it probably doesn't make sense in the real world, but as a design exploration, it makes sense to try it. You never know, it might lead someone to a very cool solution that uses some slider mechanism that isn't silly.
This guy has done some great work.

I don't know why I've kept TUAW in my reader for so long, but this is it.
I've had enough of this lame fake photoshop crap, annoying speculation, and rumors. So repetitive and incredibly uninteresting.

There's this thing on my mouse called a scroll wheel. It allows me to fly right past articles I don't like in just a fraction of a second. You should try it!

Hi TUAW and readers,
You managed to cause a slight overload on the site. :-)
Should normalize soon hopefully - got some tweaks in which should lighten the database load.
A refresh should get you in - works for me at least.
Regards,
Wojtek

OK it seems to be working for me now - a few tweets on the subject helped with the traffic I guess. :-)
Have fun all and hope you like it!

Why people still don't get it? The tablet will NOT have the full version of OS X, it will have a modified version, adapted for touch control, just like the iPhone. Mac OS X is not prepared to be used with the fingers. That's the reason why I don't think this is a good concept. And I didn't like the slider part either.

deep breath... count to 10....
its a concept. get over it already.

Not a fan of the slider concept. In fact it seems very un-apple like to have moving parts on a concept that should be simple.

No offense, and it's great that people out there are creative and passionate enough about a tablet to create such mock-ups, but I wouldn't buy this. It's ugly! It has a slide out screen... for a keyboard? How exactly would you type and comfortably view the screen (even ignoring viewing angles) if everything is flat on the surface in front of you? It's a good thing we can use it for other things... like viewing my internet history. *sigh*
I don't think there was enough thought put into this, and I trust that Apple will not release something like this.
I will say that the docking station is absolutely beautiful, though. I think Apple should take a hint in that department, because I bet there's a lot of people who would love to dock their MacBooks when they get to their desks, though again for a tablet I think we just need a stand, because unless this thing is gonna be really powerful, I don't think anyone will be using it as a desktop!
