OMG! 360 Facebook/Twitter Open to Minors

By Tyler Barber | Xbox 360 News | Dec 9, 2009 2:15 PM | Comment

Major Nelson sends word that youngsters on Xbox Live can now access Facebook and Twitter, with their parents' permission of course. However, U.S. gamers still need to wait a while, as the current update is only live for gamers outside the U.S. (the U.S. update is expected on December 15th).

Major Nelson also warns that those opting in will want to set Facebook and Twitter defaults to auto sign-in, as otherwise kids'll have to get their parents' go-ahead every time they want to access the content. The age restrictions were placed on Twitter and Facebook at launch in order to give Microsoft time to work in parental controls for underage gamers. Read More »

Wet-Behind-the-Ears Developer Announces Naughty Bear

By Tyler Barber | Xbox 360 News | Dec 9, 2009 1:42 PM | Comment

Wet developer Artificial Mind and Movement has shown off the first images of its next title, Naughty Bear (via 1UP). The new title follows the cute-meets-violent design philosophy similar to this year's Fairytale Fights.

Naughty Bear sets your standard stuffed animal on a quest for revenge against his fellow plush pals who refused to invite him to a party. 505 Games president Adam Kline chimes in: "Players tired of the same old shoot-'em-up, recycled gameplay are going to get what's coming to them in Naughty Bear." According to Kline a "scare-based" point system will reward "devious" and "maniacal" players. Read More »

DICE Invites Everyone to the BadCo 2 Party Chat

By Tyler Barber | Xbox 360 News | Dec 9, 2009 12:23 PM | Comment

Speaking to DICE's Gordon Van Dyke at an event in New York City, MTV Multiplayer managed to get confirmation that party chat over Xbox Live would not be blocked in any multiplayer mode of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Unlike in Modern Warfare 2, Dyke doesn't see party chat cheating as a big issue:

"We are ok with [party chat]. We haven't taken a stance, being against it and feeling like people are cheating. Is it worth putting a restriction on it that affects everybody? I don't think [cheating with party chat is] that big of an issue, that I've seen, where we have to worry about that." Read More »

Activision Hollers Back, Sues No Doubt

By Tyler Barber | Xbox 360 News | Dec 9, 2009 10:56 AM | Comment

Early last month we reported that rock group No Doubt filed suit against Activision, claiming the company turned the band's on-screen likenesses "into a virtual karaoke circus act." Activision has fired back, filing its own countersuit against No Doubt claiming the band is in breach of contract, and is receiving unjust enrichment from its inclusion in the game (via The Hollywood Reporter).

According to the complaint, No Doubt was contractually obligated to promote the game, but the band failed this commitment when it filed suit against the company in early November. Activision is seeking damages including interest and asking that the band "disgorge all benefits, including payments, received," pay court costs and attorney fees, and be subject to any other penalaty as the court sees fit. By Bryn Williams | Xbox 360 News | Dec 9, 2009 4:12 AM | Comment

That's the general consensus based on the fact that the developer's newly launched website is looking to recruit all manner of talent from the industry -- specifically those individuals who have "five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC." Kim Swift Escapes Aperture Scien... err, Valve

By Tyler Barber | Xbox 360 News | Dec 8, 2009 3:45 PM | Comment

One of the people responsible for Valve's first-person-puzzler Portal, Kim Swift, has left the company for a position with Dark Void developer Airtight Games (via Game|Life). Swift was one of the DigiPen students whose 2005 thesis project, Narbacular Drop, landed her and her team jobs at Valve.

Swift commented on the move, "I've learned so much and had some amazing experiences at Valve, but when I heard I had the opportunity to work on innovative titles with my friends over at Airtight, I couldn't pass it up." The Consensus: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Review

By Brian Altano | Nintendo DS Reviews | Dec 8, 2009 12:48 PM | Comment

Zelda is dead -- let's just get that out of the way upfront. She's killed by a ruthless chancellor within the first few minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and plucky series protagonist Link is tasked with returning her ghost to her body. But don't mourn Zelda's passing just yet: Her spirit accompanies you throughout the game, a clever twist on the classic save-the-princess cliche. Spirit Tracks is another success in Zelda's cherished history, and -- assuming you can acclimate to the touch-screen controls -- it's one of the best games in Nintendo's flagship action-adventure series.
