By Bryn Williams | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 9, 2009 3:15 PM | Comment

Is Activision's newly formed Sledgehammer Games hard at work on a brand-new AAA shooter? That's the general consensus based on the fact that the developer's newly launched website is looking to recruit all manner of talent from the industry -- specifically those individuals who have "five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC." Wet-Behind-the-Ears Developer Announces Naughty Bear

By Tyler Barber | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 9, 2009 2:56 PM | Comment

Wet developer Artificial Mind and Movement has shown off the first images of its next title, Naughty Bear (via 1UP). The new title follows the cute-meets-violent design philosophy similar to this year's Fairytale Fights.

Naughty Bear sets your standard stuffed animal on a quest for revenge against his fellow plush pals who refused to invite him to a party. 505 Games president Adam Kline chimes in: "Players tired of the same old shoot-'em-up, recycled gameplay are going to get what's coming to them in Naughty Bear." According to Kline a "scare-based" point system will reward "devious" and "maniacal" players. Read More »

Activision Hollers Back, Sues No Doubt

By Tyler Barber | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 9, 2009 12:27 PM | Comment

Early last month we reported that rock group No Doubt filed suit against Activision, claiming the company turned the band's on-screen likenesses "into a virtual karaoke circus act." Activision has fired back, filing its own countersuit against No Doubt claiming the band is in breach of contract, and is receiving unjust enrichment from its inclusion in the game (via The Hollywood Reporter).

According to the complaint, No Doubt was contractually obligated to promote the game, but the band failed this commitment when it filed suit against the company in early November. Activision is seeking damages including interest and asking that the band "disgorge all benefits, including payments, received," pay court costs and attorney fees, and be subject to any other penalaty as the court sees fit. By Bryn Williams | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 9, 2009 4:25 AM | Comment

No sooner has Gearbox Software released the first downloadable content pack for its well-received RPG shooter, Borderlands, than another one gets some not-so-subtle hints. Kim Swift Escapes Aperture Scien... err, Valve

By Tyler Barber | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 8, 2009 4:55 PM | Comment

One of the people responsible for Valve's first-person-puzzler Portal, Kim Swift, has left the company for a position with Dark Void developer Airtight Games (via Game|Life). Swift was one of the DigiPen students whose 2005 thesis project, Narbacular Drop, landed her and her team jobs at Valve.

Swift commented on the move, "I've learned so much and had some amazing experiences at Valve, but when I heard I had the opportunity to work on innovative titles with my friends over at Airtight, I couldn't pass it up." In addition to Portal, Swift worked on Left 4 Dead and its sequel. Airtight games is currently finishing Dark Void and has no other projects announced. Read More »

By Will Tuttle | PlayStation 3 Videos | Dec 8, 2009 4:35 PM

From the looks of the next Game Informer cover, Issac has not only had a makeover, he's also gained some booster-like equipment around the knees. With March rapidly approaching, you may ask yourself, "how did Sega complete all the English voiceovers in such a short time?" Well, it didn't. Read on for the scoop. Read More »

Lame Fighter 2: The World's Worst Warriors!

By | PlayStation 3 Humor | Dec 8, 2009 12:07 PM | Comment

Online shooters are awesome if you enjoy killing twelve-year-olds, Level 80 is the ultimate anti-mating call of online achievement, and you can't win at RTSes because you're reading this in English. So where can the modern gamer go to win a little glory? The fighting game is the modern world's gladiatorial combat, a true clash of champions that corrects ancient Rome's critical lack of fireballs and "swimwear posing as combat attire."

Just make sure you're not fighting against the following, characters so broken and unbalanced they're often confused with half a shopping trolley, each so ugly and out of place they'd make John McCain welcome at a student orgy. Read More »

Australian Gamers Rally for Right to Decapitate Zombies

By Tyler Barber | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 8, 2009 12:02 PM | Comment

About 50 people gathered in Brisbane, Australia to show their support for the creation of an R18+ rating (via GamePolitics). Game ratings are a hot topic in Australia since Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2, among others, were held back from release by the Australian ratings board. Nicolas Suzor of Electronic Frontiers Australia and Ethan Watson of the blog Treat Us Like Adults spoke at the rally, and posted the whole event on YouTube.

Suzor and Watson's call to action is to get the Commonwealth Minister of Home Affairs, Brendan O'Connor, to release the R18+ discussion paper. The EFA has a pre-written letter addressed to Mr. O'Connor on its wiki site. Read More »

id Software Cured of Console Cooties

By Bryn Williams | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 8, 2009 3:42 AM | Comment

In an interview over on NowGamer, id Software's creative director Tim Willits tries to allay PC gamers' fears that id's upcoming racer/shooter Rage will not "feel like a true PC game, [but] a PC port of a console game."

Willits talks about the fact that the developer has taken very specific steps to make sure that the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Rage will feel right for their respective controllers and interfaces. Read More »

Darksiders is God of War, but Chunkier

By Bryn Williams | PlayStation 3 Videos | Dec 8, 2009 1:37 AM

If there's one game that might be able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of God of War and Dante's Inferno it's Vigil Games' Darksiders. We've just posted the latest gameplay vignette, which shows off some of the hardcore violence that players can expect to engage in as War when the game hits the streets in early January. Seriously, it's looking awesome. Check out the footage after the jump. You can call us out if you think we're lying. See More »

Tony Hawk Executes Kickflip into Review Rant

By Tyler Barber | PlayStation 3 News | Dec 7, 2009 3:28 PM | Comment

With a plastic skateboard peripheral and $120 price tag, Activision took a gamble on Tony Hawk's latest. Unfortunately the gamble looks to be a bust critically, as Tony Hawk: Ride is currently pulling a Metacritic score of 48 for PS3 and Xbox 360, and a 61 for the Wii version.

Reacting to the poor review scores, Tony Hawk turned to The Sudbury Star to defend his latest game, saying, "I don't agree with people who say the board's not responsive." He goes on to say, "I think that [critics are] just not giving it a fair shake," adding, "I think a lot of them came into it with an attitude that it's going to suck."

Check after the break for Tony's reaction on Twitter. Read More »
