Comic-Con Day Two Pics
- BERJAYA 1 Comment
I ganked some more pictures from the IGN Facebook Gallery. Day Two looks pretty much like Day One. Except on Day One the IGN Editors were frolicking on a bed together having a gay old time! I guess there wasn't much to do after dark on Day One.

In Other News... Happy Birthday Max Payne!
- BERJAYA 4 Comments
Happy Birthday Max Payne! On this day in 2001 the game started hitting store shelves. 3D Realms said they would send out a free Max Payne mouse pad to the first 50,000 people to pre-order Max (which retailed for $39.95 USD). Unfortunately pre-orders were delayed by a few days due to customs issues at the Canadian border (yeah that's right, we held your Max ransom!).

Out of the box Max gave players with GeForce 3 cards and Windows 2000 some problems, but Remedy remedied that issue super-quick. Max Payne went on to land most of its review scores in the 90's, as did Max Payne 2.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition Announced For PC
- BERJAYA 30 Comments
With a change of leadership at the top, LucasArts' ridiculous notions about PCs being incapable of wielding the power of the dark side, have been 'eliminated,' paving the way for the announcement of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition, an enhanced conversion that will include all of the released and to-be-released downloadable content, and a bonus Hoth level featuring Luke Skywalker. Think of it as an apology basket.

LucasArts today announced that their hit videogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will see further expansion this Fall through a new downloadable level for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the Playstation 3 computer entertainment system. In addition, the company also announced Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, a special new version of the game for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, that will show gamers the deepest, darkest side of the Force in a story that puts them on a collision course with Luke Skywalker himself. Available this holiday season at retail stores, The Ultimate Sith Edition will include all of the original missions found in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as well as content previously only available via download and an all-new exclusive bonus level.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force and casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice,” unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy seen through the eyes of a mysterious new character armed with unprecedented powers. Originally released in September 2008, the game quickly became the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever, and has since sold six million units worldwide.

About the Tatooine Downloadable Content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Available this Fall via direct download from the Xbox LIVE online entertainment network and the Playstation Network, this new downloadable mission continues the story of The Force Unleashed in a new “Infinities” storyline that takes the Star Wars Saga in an entirely new and unexpected direction.

The mission begins at the end of the story of The Force Unleashed and re-imagines the Star Wars Saga as if the Secret Apprentice had killed Darth Vader and taken his place at the Emperor’s side, becoming the most powerful Sith Lord in the universe. The story picks up as the Emperor sends his new apprentice to the planet Tatooine to dispatch Obi-Wan Kenobi -- who has been hiding on the planet ever since the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. During their hunt for the reclusive Jedi, players will also explore the depths of Jabba the Hutt’s palace and encounter notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett.

About Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition

Due to be released in retail stores this holiday season for PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition combines the original Star Wars: The Force Unleashed videogame and three new levels to create the definitive ultimate-evil storyline of the events that occurred between the two classic Star Wars movie trilogies

The additional content includes two levels set on Coruscant and Tatooine previously only available via direct download, and an all-new exclusive level available only in the Ultimate Sith Edition package.

The exclusive level concludes the “Infinities” storyline set up in the Tatooine mission, as the Secret Apprentice is sent to the planet Hoth on a crusade to crush the Rebellion once and for all. While on Hoth, players face Luke Skywalker himself while visiting iconic locations seen in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

    Ask Cryptic: Champions Online Edition
    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
A new issue of Ask Cryptic is now large and in charge for Champions Online. This one focuses on the PvP aspect of gameplay. Here's a little slice on rewards for kicking some player booty.

Rewards are given out at the end of each Hero Games match, and each hero's reward is based on their participation in the match. There's a reasonably complex formula for this, but you'll tend to get more rewards for accomplishing your objectives without letting your opponents accomplish theirs: helping to defeat opponents, and winning matches, for instance, will tend to increase your reward. For team games, most of these rewards are shared across the entire team, so a healer or tank who contributes to a win will get good rewards even though they weren't scoring the kills personally.

That said, even if you're not a strong player, you'll still get a respectable reward for participating--after all, persevering in the face of certain death is what makes a hero, right? Match rewards include XP and Acclaim. Acclaim can be "spent" at Hero Games vendors for special loot: upgrades, costume unlocks, and other stuff that you can't get anywhere else. We're also working on a system to let defeated enemy players drop valuable items directly once in a blue moon. We give out rewards at the end of each match for a few reasons. First, it make it easier to reward support characters for indirect contributions. Second, it makes it easier to give out rewards for things like your team winning. For one, it makes it easier to give out rewards based on it discourages players from quitting mid-game. Even if they're losing, they can stick it out and earn some rewards. If they ragequit, they get nothing.

New Section 8 Site and Screenshots
    - BERJAYA 1 Comment
JoinSection8.com is rocking a new look for "Section 8". On the site you can grab the fansite kit, learn more about the game, sign up for beta and pre-order. Section 8 is scheduled for release later this summer for the PC and Xbox 360.

Section 8 gives players the opportunity to call their own shots as they battle in the farthest reaches of the galaxy. With the ability to drop from the sky to anywhere on the battlefield, customize your soldier’s equipment, and dynamically manipulate the flow of combat with strategic asset deliveries, each soldier’s Section 8 experience will be completely different. Still, the official site will continue to provide content that will give players a look at what they will have at their disposal when they enter mankind’s greatest battle.

EA Pimping Out Their Comic-Con Booth Babes; Apologises
    - BERJAYA 14 Comments
Here's a good one for a Friday afternoon... ars technica details EA's latest stunt, in which they challenge people to "commit acts of lust" with their Comic-Con booth babes, get a pic of the ordeal, and send it in for a chance to win dinner with two hot girls. Second prize is Dante's Inferno. They even encourage repeated "acts of lust", for a better chance to win. Sit back and imagine all this for a second. You may now shudder.

Update: The EA Twitter marketing team have apologised. Kind of.

Ubisoft Bags Sigourney Weaver For Avatar
    - BERJAYA 12 Comments
Sigourney Weaver will voice the role of Dr. Grace Augustine for Ubisoft's video game, "James Cameron's Avatar: The Game". Sigourney turned down Ghostbusters: The Videogame, so I wonder why Avatar and not Ghostbusters. She missed James Cameron's E3 '09 speech and figured he'd be fun to work with? Alyssa Milano threatened to kick her ass if she took it? Dan Aykroyd has bad breath? We'll get to the bottom of this one! ;)

Weaver's character will be featured in the versions of the game released on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Wii(TM) system from Nintendo and PC. Other actors from the film that will appear in the game include Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi and Stephen Lang.

Rodriguez's character, Trudy Chacon, functions as the player's chopper pilot throughout the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 system and PC versions of the game. Ribisi reprises his role as the arrogant Parker Selfridge, appearing exclusively in the Wii version of the game. The film's antagonist, Col. Quaritch, played and voiced by Lang, will appear in the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 system and PC versions.

"We are very excited to have actors from the film provide voiceover work for the different versions of the video game," said Patrick Naud, executive producer for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. "Having the characters from the film voiced by the actors that portrayed them appear in the game adds a level of authenticity you just can't get any other way."

A couple of pictures from Ubisoft's Comic-Con party last night.

Importing Mass Effect Into Mass Effect 2
    - BERJAYA 3 Comments
PC World is sporting an interview with Mass Effect 2 Lead Producer, BioWare's Casey Hudson. In the first part of the chat they talk about the development cycle of Mass Effect 2, how one would describe the game to a newbie, starting fresh or importing your character from the original Mass Effect and more. Yes, that's right! Importing your Mass Effect character into Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect 2 is just a much better game than Mass Effect in virtually every way. We've made a lot of improvements, such that I think it'll have a broader audience and broader appeal. The combat plays better, the graphics are better, it has a better tutorial, all the things that make a game like this more accessible.

To support that, obviously we needed to make sure it's a game people can jump into knowing nothing about the Mass Effect universe, or even that there was a first game. At the same time, one of the really big things we're trying to do that I think has never been done in this way before is tie together a trilogy of huge games where the entire story is one thread that's told by the player. All of your decisions and choices really start to snowball over the course of the trilogy because it's picking up the entire record of how you've played, from the first moments of the first game all the way through to the ending of the third game. In that instance, we want to make sure we're really rewarding people who've played the first Mass Effect.

Likewise, if Mass Effect 2 is your entry point and you're really getting into the story, you can still back up, pop in Mass Effect, play through, get your end save game, and come back to the trilogy from that angle.

    No Unreal Tournament For You
    - BERJAYA 9 Comments
In a recent statement, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said that we are unlikely to see another Unreal Tournament for several years. Like come on, does anyone really care anymore? Unreal Tournament is a beat up old pile of dung that is better left dead. Just kidding. I love Unreal Tournament, it reminds me of hot chocolate on a snowy day. BTW, today is "No Flame Friday".

"Unreal Tournament is certainly a major long-term priority but we're planning not to release a major retail game in the series for several years," Sweeney told G4TV in an interview. "So we have that effort somewhat on hold while we work on a few other initiatives."

Sweeney suggested that the community was still getting loads out of the game anyway, remarking, "We almost solve the Unreal Tournament 4 and 5 problem ourselves by just making this toolset available because the community has done more than we could have ever hoped to do internally."

    Industry Crusaders Fight Trademark Troll
    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
Current IGDA board member, Tim Langdell, is a naughty trademark-troll, and famed UK development industry forum The Chaos Engine, is pulling together to rally against Langdell. Develop reports that the "trademark-chasing" nature of Langdell's operation has come under scrutiny once again, when Mobigame was forced to remove their award-winning iPhone game "EDGE" from Apple's App Store because Langdell claimed the game was an infringement on his trademark of the word Edge.

According to the forum, Mobigame - who own the trademark to the name 'EDGE' in France - offered to rename the game to EDGY in other markets, but Langdell apparently refused and then subsequently applied for the 'EDGY' trademark in the US.

The Chaos Engine and its 7,000-strong membership have gone as far as to establish a fund to aid Mobigame in what could be a long legal dispute.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Coming in 3D
    - BERJAYA 4 Comments
ShockTillYouDrop.com scored a little exclusive at Comic-Con with Paul W.S. Anderson, who revealed that Resident Evil: Afterlife will be released in 3D and will kick-off a new trilogy. As expected, Milla Jovovich will return as Alice, when the movie premieres on September 17, 2010. Also watch for other returning characters from the previous films and videogames.

Anderson, who will write and direct, told us that the fourth film in the franchise will have the largest budget of all the films so far. "I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films," he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

MS 360 Division Reports Second Straight Profitible Year
    - BERJAYA 9 Comments
Despite some struggling for profitibility on the PS3, Microsoft's Xbox appears to be doing quite well according to its latest profit report for the fiscal year ending on June 30th. You can read the full article at IndustryGamers.

Microsoft said that in the fourth quarter Xbox 360 and PC game revenue decreased 12 % to $110 million “primarily as a result of decreased Xbox 360 console sales and decreased revenue per Xbox 360 console due to price reductions during the past 12 months, partially offset by increased Xbox Live revenue.” Shipments were slightly down in the fourth quarter, as 1.2 million Xbox 360 consoles were shipped compares to 1.3 million during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2008.

For the full year, Xbox 360 and PC game revenue decreased $161 million (just three percent) and total Xbox 360 shipments were actually up from 8.7 million units to 11.2 million.

The new Tron 2 title, Halo panel live blogging and the Halo Anime Shorts, Dexter Season 4 and more. Also check out IGN's Comic-Con News page, lots of Bruce Campbell, lots of Dexter, I read a bit of a "V" preview yesterday (sounds semi-promising?), and of course plenty of game stuff too! Here are a few more shots stolen from the IGN Facebook page.
