Phobos Model Update[ Comment ] 8:18 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Doom 3The fourth Devblog entry for the D3: Phobos expansion project is up and it's rife with new shots and info on the projects models! Included in the update is word on the new female models, monsters and even map models and props. Make damn sure you check this one out or I'll put a Cherub in your shorts!
When it came to the Federal Commonwealth of Earth, it was very important that they looked to be somewhat on the same quality level as the UAC. Even though we are using a little more polygons and higher resolution textures, we didnt take it too far because they had to fit inside Doom 3 and not stick out as foreign objects. We are making new faces for the FCE, and perhaps even the UAC marines as well. The reasoning behind that is that they could use new heads, both for variety and a general quality upgrade. (More)

Hell and Back #343[ Comment ] 8:08 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI keep getting spam mails this week (no surprise there) and the latest topic is the upcoming Super Bowl, which is a nice break from insulting my manhood. The mails offer info on picking the winner, or wanting to know my pick. Yeah, like I'd answer a spam mail! But my point is that there's no question, no query involved. The Steelers are going to take it and become the first NFL franchise to have won six Super Bowls. If you disagree, that's your right, but those are the facts, at least according to a diehard Steelers fan, so take it for what it's worth. To tell the truth, if Arizona was playing anyone else but my Steelers, I'd be rooting for Arizona. They've got a very good team and have been robbed of their glory for a long time. I'd be cheering for the Cardinals if they were playing anyone else, including my wife's Broncos, but they're playing my Steelers so down they must go. Sorry Arizona fans!

Hell and Back #342[ Comment ] 6:51 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI got everything I needed to get the work done around here and I'm really regretting selling off most of my tools years ago. I kept a toolbox full and a couple power tools, but I let my table saw, drill press and a ton more go that I really wish I still had. Oh well, I'll just have to get what I need as I need it. I'm really hooked on the idea of making a bed for Mrs. Pappy and myself because I made a few in the past and actually liked my own stuff. I really want a nice oak sleigh bed, something I've never had or gotten around to building, so that's my secret dream right now.
While I'm on the topic of building things, or not, I should put out an update on my "DOOM Valley" train layout. That one is on the back burner because it's a very costly project estimated at about 3 grand and it was to be paid for with Planet site money. Due to recent cutbacks, this isn't possible at the present time, so the stuff I already have is going into storage until things change. That made me more than a bit sad, but that's the way it goes I guess. Ill still work on my airbrushing skillz though so Ill be ready when its time to get going on that project again.

Hell and Back #341[ Comment ] 9:41 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI had to run (or roll in my case) out this morning to grab some supplies for jobs I have to do around the house. I need to build shelves for my wife's craft room, a new BBQ utensil rack for me and some other odd jobs and I was short of some much needed heavy screws and a new level. I'm getting the woodworking bug big time and I think these jobs will just make me take on bigger and better projects like a new bed for Mrs. Pappy and myself. Yeah, I can do that. I used to do a lot of wood working back in the old days and while I'm not fast enough to get paid for it anymore, I can still get the job done and have a ball doing it. Oh yeah, there's not much going on in the DOOM universe today either so may I suggest a little DOOM 3 Co-Op with the pals of your choice?

Hell and Back #340[ Comment ] 8:21 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsA late start two days in a row Ooops! I had to go to the doctor's this morning but it went quick so I'm back in my rightful spot. On the books for today is more work on non-DOOM stuff, so nothing really to talk about here. It's another slow day for DOOM news too, so maybe we should just all head down to id Software to see how DOOM 4 is coming along. I'll buy the coffee and donuts. Who's with me?

Hell and Back #339[ Comment ] 8:43 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsSorry we're late today but there was an issue with getting into the backend of the site this morning. I don't know what the problem was or who fixed it, but we're back and that's what counts. The good news (sort of) is that we didn't miss any big news, and we're in the midst of another little news shortage. There's really no shortage of kool stuff being worked on, it's just a lag while teams work hard behind the scenes on tasty DOOM content for us all to enjoy. I guess that means it's time to catch up on anything you've missed in the meantime. Just hit our files section to see if anything has slipped past you.

Hell and Back #338[ 2 Comments ] 7:04 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsThere's no football this weekend damn it, but maybe that means I'll get a lot done. As long as I don't get distracted by games, I'll be OK. I have to play one for a side project we're doing, but I'm getting distracted by other games I'm still installing and setting up on my game rig, so I'm not going to bet any bucks on how much I get done. I'd better get some done though or gimpod is gonna hunt me down I think. I just put RoE in yesterday, and I thought I already installed it, so I'd better get that setup today. I'm sure it won't distract me... Much!

New Weapon and Demons![ Comment ] 7:50 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Doom 3There's more new juice oozing from the Ruiner project today as they show off a new screenshot that gives us all a glimpse of the new Ruin Bow and Horde Imps! The word on the Ruiner site is that the new weapon will be an early pick-up but still pack enough of a punch to be worthy later in the game, and the new demons, the Horde Imps will travel in packs without causing performance issues. The team is still looking for help, so if you have map making or animation skillz, check the latest Ruiner update for details on joining this incredible looking project!
We recently finished development of the Ruin bow. Ruiner's gameplay is fast, and we needed a bow, which would make it a usable weapon when facing large hordes of the damned. It should also be a weapon that was always worth using to the player. Many games feature large sets of weapons, but very few feature sets where each one has a unique purpose and doesn't simply feel like an upgrade. We have been using this approach when designing the arsenal of Ruiner. The bow might be one the starting weapons of the game, but there is always a place and time for it.
Today's new screen shot doesn't only show the Ruin Bow in-game, it also gives a glimpse of a new enemy. We are currently putting the final touches on Horde Imps. Horde imps are a specially optimized version of the classic imps shown before. Unlike standard imps, they attack in large packs... in groups of 6 to 18 with little impact to the game's performance.
Hell and Back #337[ Comment ] 7:43 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsYesterdays goofy morning adventure turned out much better than expected! The nurse that took my blood was new, and very good, but she was also a Steelers fan and when she saw my Steelers hat and shirt she got all exited and we talked for more than a few minutes about the past and present team. Another unexpected bonus from yesterday was finding Sin City and Mad Max in the DVD bargain bins for five bucks each! They have been on my list for quite a while, but now they're in my collection. One film that still eludes me is 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I am determined and I will have it! Oh yes, one day it will be mine.

Hell and Back #336[ 3 Comments ] 4:11 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI'm off to see the vampire squad this morning, and I think I'll make it this time. We haven't had much snow for the past couple of days, so the walkways should be plenty clear enough for my chair. My next wheelchair is going to be demon powered and will shoot flames to get rid of snow and ice in my way, and it'll probably be a big help at malls too where people stand in my way because as we all know, looking anywhere but up as you walk through a mall is forbidden. They do tend to notice me when they get my leg-rests in the back of the legs or in the shins. "Oooops, sorry, didn't see ya there", Pwnd!

Go-Go ZanZan![ Comment ] 6:41 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Classic DoomTheres some new DOOM 2 fun to be had today with the release of the ZanZan conversion, a little something that may make you feel like a god as you battle through new lands, new creatures and more!
The ZanZan is a Total Conversion (TC) for ZDOOMGL. In this TC you are one of the gods of a place nothing like earth, named ZanZan. The plot takes place at your own ancient fortress, where a rebellion is taking place against you.
ZanZan is a three level TC, but it uses entirely new 3D monsters, weapons and dehacked. The game is very different from DOOM, with a lot of use of melee weapons and it's only for solo play. The story develops during the action.
Hell and Back #335[ Comment ] 6:39 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsHappy Hump Day gang! Yes this is the halfway point in your week, unless you're like me and go at it seven days a week. Yeah poor old me, I have to sit here and play with my computers every single day, but while that sounds like fun, it's often not. Right now it's all-good though because my tech woes are behind me right now and I'll be installing even more games on my game rig later on. With all the catching up I had to do I haven't even got everything in that I need. Like I totally forgot about QUAKE Wars until the other day, and now I'm just waiting for a slow minute or two to get it in a setup. DOOM 3 was done almost as soon as I got the PC back, so no worries there!

Prepare for a long wander into the darkness of Hell. This is very huge map. On skill 4 level there is over 1,300 monsters. Here you will find that it's very hard to play. You must have good patience. This map has no maze, but there is a huge dark wooded area with lots of Imps.
