Greg's Take on Portal: The Flash Version

The cake is the truth, the cake is a lie, the cake is the truth, the cake is a lie...

December 2, 2008 - I love this game for a few reasons -- it's free, it's fun, and it's expanding on an awesome but short console game -- but chief among those reasons is the dichotomy between simplicity and complexity. In the console version of Portal, there's a story to follow, detailed environments, and a first-person perspective. Here, you're in a very simple environment trying to achieve simple goals through incredibly complex technology. These are just white rooms with a little test subject breaking the laws of physics to figure how to get from Point A to Point B. The levels aren't long (so it's easy to get a few games in while your boss hits up the bathroom) but they do provide from some noodle-scratching moments as you try and figure out how to do the impossible.

You can jump in, jump out, and get on with your day -- that's what I want in casual online game. Well, that and Buffalo wings, but I'll settle for half.
