South JesusLand’s Dakota ’s Rapists’ Rights Bill.
Dakota Today: **Mike Rounds asks Priest if Virgin Mary was Raped
Mike Rounds, Governor of SD, is pondering and thinking about the Rapist Rights Bill the SD Legislature just passed. The wingnut loons answered prayers are putting Mikey in a bind. Does he eat everything they shovel his way or not?
Well, He just has to find out if God raped the Virgin Mary. That will provide the theological basis for SD supporting Rapist Rights and treating women as nearly worthless chattle, good only as reproduction machines betting on hitting the Jesus bonus on the reproductive powerball lottery.

Wow, that’s fucked up.
(and yes, this is me - posting from an undisclosed location).

I totally understand why you might want to keep your location “undisclosed” given the quality of your response LA…

A literal reading of the Gospels presents us with a couple interpretational choices: either God gave Mary the choice to bear Jesus (which implicitly condones abortion) or he “raped” her in a spiritual sense. Got to keep in mind that she never had sex. She was a virgin when Jesus was born.

Ryan–
As far as I can tell, the only Gospel that speaks to the issue of consent is Luke. Mary consents after she’s told that she will conceive. So in the eyes of the law, God’s in hot water, but it would be nearly impossible to prosecute, even if she had a change of heart. Also, there’s the inherent difficulty in bringing charges against an all-powerful being.

That’s right. Luke 1:38. The implication there is that she has let her will be known, and I think that’s important, because it places an emphasis on the wishes of the woman — something that SD legislators are clearly opposed to.
But I think the idea of bringing up God on rape charges is kind of funny. My current reading of the conception and the mythology around Mary leads me to conclude that everyone would be happy to be “filled with the love of God” (so to speak). Kind of like the universe’s ultimate Casanova. What makes the law in question so anti-Christian is that whether or not He leaves a kid behind (and is or is not able to trick some guy into raising it) is now subject to restrictions by the state. Reprehensible, if you ask me.

No metal coat hangers back in those days…
While I am personally against abortion - thus I’ve never had one - I believe that it needs to be kept legal and safe. Women are going to have abortions, like it or not. Do they deserve to die for making that choice?
Fucking sick, that’s what this is.
