    Three GTA IV PC Reviews

    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
Adriaan discussed the Eurogamer review for GTA IV for PC who gave it a 9 out of 10, but just in case you wanted a bit more, PC Gamer UK gave it a 92 out of 100 and PC Format UK gave it an 89 out of 100. More scores are expected to roll along in succession as the game is only hours from release for PC!

    GTA IV PC Reviews

    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
The embargo has been lifted for the PC reviews of GTA IV, and Eurogamer is the first to post theirs today. They gave it a very favorable 9/10, saying that they and other reviewers agreed it takes a bit of fine tuning with the in-game graphical settings to get the game to work without intermittent interruption.

It's not even the frame-rate issues. It's because, while the game's a genuine ground-breaking blockbuster in videogame history, there's a few more annoyances than I'd like for a ten. Primarily, a lack of mid-mission checkpoints is frustrating, especially in a game where failure is more often from a momentary high-speed crash accident on the way back from the actual bank raid rather than an actual failing of skill during a shoot out.

    GTA IV PC DRM FAQ

    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
Today Rockstar Games released quite a hefty FAQ on the installation process of the PC version of GTA IV. As part of an anti-piracy strategy, the publisher has implemented a strong form of Digital Rights Management, DRM for short, that requires you to activate your copy of the game once through the internet.

In case you're wondering, you can install the game on multiple computers, each of which just need to activate the game through the internet once. Although, you need to have disc 1 of the game inserted at all times if you want to play. We're not going to list all of it here, but feel free to read it all by clicking here. Chances are if you play it legal you're good to go, but if you have some uncertainty or just plain paranoid read it through.

Of much interest to note from the entire document though is this paragraph, as part of a question on the disadvantages of playing with a pirated copy:
Rockstar Games rewards loyal, paying customers and will offer incentives and downloadable content that will only be available to registered users of the game, running non-hacked copies, via Rockstar Games Social Club.

While it probably won't be much of a surprise to know that the PC version will receive some downloadable content as well, did Rockstar Games inadvertently put out an official announcement on that part? We'll keep an eye out for this, though I still personally believe the Xbox 360's exclusive two episodes are just for a set period, and will at least make its way to the PC - which wouldn't upset Microsoft in any way because it means more money to them through the same Live service as that of the Xbox 360.

    Lost and Damned Priced

    - BERJAYA 1 Comment
    BERJAYA
Last week Rockstar Games announced the first details and release date for GTA IV's first downloadable episode for the Xbox 360. Just to refresh your memory, it's called The Lost and Damned and will be available as an Xbox Live download from February 17, 2009. But no pricing was released.

A recent listing to the website of U.S. retailer Gamestop reveals the pricing, $19.99. It can be pre-ordered from them, and on release date you will receive a double sided poster and token card that lists your unique code to redeem from Xbox Live and download the episode.

Naturally this will be available straight from Xbox Live though, presumably the price of which will be listed in Microsoft points. In the U.S. $19.99 gets you 1600 points, so while we can't confirm this right now, chances are good this is the amount of points you'll need in other territories as well.

In the UK, for instance, 2000 Microsoft points (closest available for purchase) puts you back £17.00. Stay tuned, and enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Second Update to PC Video Section - Three more!

    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
As Adriaan had reported earlier, Rockstar Games updated the official GTA IV website, launching the PC section which included a very nice selection of videos from the Rockstar development team showing off the power of the video editing tools included in the PC version of GTA IV. Rockstar keeps teasing us with more such videos: They recently added an additional three, upping the total number to nine - Super Niko, Get Sprunk (a hilarious commercial for Sprunk soda) and Video Editor Tutorial. Rockstar Social Club Redone

    - BERJAYA 2 Comments
    BERJAYA

Ready for the launch of GTA IV PC, Rockstar Games today updated the Social Club to version 1.1. Though considering all the change, it at least deserved a title of 1.5, as R* themselves calls the site "redone". Most notable is that the site, called R* Social Club, is actually steering in the direction of an online "club". In the past, apart from viewing arrays of tabular data of that of other players' online statistics, it generally was a one man show.

This has changed with the advent of a nickname system, creating a general user name for use through the site, while your Xbox Live, Games for Windows, and PlayStation Network ID's are now just used for statistical data or other platform-specific areas.

Borrowing ideas from social network sites such as Facebook, a Friends System and Message Wall is promised to be added to the website some time in the future.

So check out the newly re-launched website for yourself over here, which this time round is much more user friendly - in that it's primarily HTML based as opposed to all Flash, which as some of you might know, has brought some caching issues in the past; while HTML just loads much faster.

Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC is scheduled to debut next week, December 2nd, in addition to the simultaneous launch of Social Club T.V., which would be open to guest users as well to view videos of other users made with the game's video editor.

Preview of Lost and Damned Editorial (Updated)

    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
In case you haven't heard it yet, the first episode of GTA IV on the Xbox 360 now has a worldwide release date of February 17, 2009 - and is named The Lost and Damned. You play Johnny Klebitz, the leader of a biker gang called "The Lost". But how much of this character, the gang, and other relevant information to this is in the original game of GTA IV? More than you might think. I found quite a lot of interesting stuff today, from the two missions where you see him, or other references, on the radio, websites etc. I'll be publishing an entire editorial on this, but for now here's a little preview. It's text I found, with the great help of steve-m, from the text files for the game. These files contain anything from text displayed on in-game websites, or mission dialogue subtitles.
    Klebitz, Johnny
    34
    Acter, Alderney
Member of the Alderney Chapter of the Lost OMG
    1991 - Grand Theft Auto
    1993 - Assault
    1994 - Manslaughter
    2000 - Parole Violation

-Believed to be second in command of the Alderney Chapter of the Lost Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
-Assumed control of the gang when its head, Billy Grey, was incarcerated.
-Exact nature of the relationship between Grey and Klebitz is unknown.
-Unclear who will assume control of the gang when Grey is released from prison.
-Under his command, the Lost OMG have been able to co-exist with the Angels of Death OMG in relative peace.
-Ties to known South Bohan drug dealer, Elizabeta Torres.

    Lawson, Albert
    49
    Unknown
Member of the Angels of Death OMG
    1987 - Resisting arrest
    1989 - Assault
    1992 - Assault
1993 - Possession Controlled Substance: Methamphetamine
2005 - Possession Controlled Substance: Methamphetamine

-Senior member of the Liberty City Chapter of the Angels of Death OMG.
-Thought to have been the cause of the war between the Angels of Death and the Lost when he had sexual intercourse with the mother of a Lost member.

I'm not sure why both rival gangs are suffixed with the text "OMG". If anyone knows where this is from in the game, please e-mail me and let me know. Though I have a presumption that this, along with other interesting text on other characters, may just be basic text on all the characters, some of which have locations such as "Carcer City" or "Los Santos", that was embedded within the game files. Check back soon for more.

Update: Reader Russell Finnigan has e-mailed in and said that the "OMG" abbreviation stands for Outlaw Motorcycle Gang. He also points out that this is very likely a GTA world take on the Outlaws Motorcycle Club.

Update 2: Yesterday I visited the in-game website of libertycitypolice.com, but couldn't find a link to a database of criminals. However, scouting through the websites today, I finally returned to the website only to find that in the footer of the website, where it reads "2008 City of Liberty, Database", the word "database" is actually a link, from where you can view an array of profiles for several people. There sure has been a lot written for the game, a lot of these characters you don't even see in the original game of GTA IV, but no doubt will in the first and second episodes for the game.

Again, we'll have an editorial up soon that goes into detail all the possible characters that's likely to be seen in The Lost and Damned, so you don't have to scout the database yourself. There's also a few in-game news articles that's interesting to read, that goes a bit into the back story basically of the upcoming release. From what I've read so far, I personally believe we'll see a lot of gang activity in this release, as there's both rivalry and partnerships between the different gangs in GTA IV.

GTA IV Downloadable Content Details! (Updated)

    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
Details of what the downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV will include have finally trickled in thanks to an exclusive over at USA Today.
This new episode, available Feb. 17 via download exclusively for those who own the Xbox 360 version (no price yet), stars Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City biker gang The Lost.

"Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," says Dan Houser, vice president of creative development for Rockstar Games. "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."

    BERJAYA BERJAYA
    BERJAYA BERJAYA

The episode, titled The Lost and Damned, requires players to have the full version of the Mature-rated GTA IV (ages 17 and older) and an Xbox Live membership to download. It's likely to carry an M rating, too.
Thanks again to USA Today for the news!

    UPDATE by Adriaan:
The official press release reveals a bit more information, such as that the storyline of this episode will intersect with that of the original game. This means we'll likely see references to the events of that story, and perhaps meet characters from the original game (maybe Niko!). Other details include new multiplayer modes, weapons and vehicles, in addition to a "diverse soundtrack" with more music.
