November 08, 2008 - The Atari 2600 might have been a classic, but it was the 8-bit Nintendo that truly made us gamers for life. From Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda and the rest, these games became as much a part of our personality as they did our social lifestyles. Now, just a mere two decades later, we can finally wear our appreciation of the 8-bit systems leading man as well as his home world wherever we go. More »
November 08, 2008 - A few days ago we reported on an Ocarina store in St. Louis that was gaining huge popularity amongst Zelda fans with their "Ocarina of Time" replica instruments. Up until then it was really the only way to faithfully reproduce the mellow sounds from the classic game, but now iPhone users can become real Ocarina musicians thanks to a groundbreaking new app. More »
November 08, 2008 - In the world of sci-fi props, normally most of the attention goes to the mainstream staples like Star Wars or Star Trek. The original Battlestar Galactica didn't quite develop the same fan base, despite the use of the word "star" in its name, but the current revision of the show on the Sci-Fi network has grown to become one of the most popular names in space pop culture. As the final season of the show wraps up (Episodes begin to air in January '09), some of the most sought after props are hitting the auction house. More »
November 07, 2008 - The holiday season is fast approaching and with it one of the most profitable periods of the year for gaming. While the holidays are always good for gaming software, it is also a time of significant hardware sales. Sales for all major systems—PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii—are expected to continue to boom. But with new systems come a necessity for the proper accessories. Fortunately, IGN Gear is compiling all of the latest and greatest accessories for each system in our weekly buyer's guide series. Last week we covered Wii accessories, and next week we will be conquering all of the necessary Xbox 360 add-ons, but this week we are centering our focus on the PlayStation 3. More »

November 07, 2008 - As we speak, the heads of the technology and communication worlds are up in San Francisco at the famed Web 2.0 Summit, where they, like the Olympian gods they are, are musing over industry-changing decisions and concepts while we, the feeble mortals, wait in eager anticipation for news highlights. One of the first lighting bolts to come down from above, comes in favor of iPhone users. More »

November 06, 2008 - Tonight is the night. Gears of War 2 will be unleashed upon the masses at midnight and the war against the viscous Locust Horde will continue. Among the numerous new features added to the wildly popular Xbox 360-exclusive franchise, none is more hotly anticipated than the Lancer duel. Gamers will now be afforded the delightfully gruesome option of taking the battle from hand-to-hand to chainsaw-to-chainsaw. While Epic Games and lead designer, Cliff "Dude Huge" Bleszinski have taken care of supplying gamers with enough in-game Lancers to satisfy their unquenchable thirst for blood, TriForce will spearheading the real life effort with their full-scale Lancer Assault Rifle replica. November 06, 2008 - There isn't really a clear cut way of evaluating a Bluetooth headset. Variables in hardware pairing and environment make taking a critical eye, or ear as it were, to a Bluetooth headset an inherently subjective experience. However, there are some aspects of a headset's performance that are consistently evident. We generally tend to avoid comparing products directly, but in the case of the official SCEA Bluetooth Headset for PlayStation 3, there were few better ways to show exactly how awesome this thing is. November 06, 2008 - Gamer kicks aren't very common. We've seen a few here and there, most recently the limited edition Gears of War shoes from Globe, but generally the shoe market is reserved for more conventional nerd mediums, such as comic book heroes. The severe lack of gaming-inspired shoes is almost enough to make you wish you were nine years old and could fit into the Velcro kids shoes emblazoned with Mario and the like. Fortunately, a recent revitalization of 80s fashion has paved the way for retro shoe types like the Nike Air Max and with them designs inspired by retro gaming. We've learned that Nike, makers of everything sports-related wearable or not, have released the latest in nerd foot fashion: the Air Classic BW - Nintendo. More »
