    Alien Breed Making A Return
    - BERJAYA 4 Comments
If you're old and wrinkly like me, you may remember Alien Breed, a great top-down action game released way back when in the early nineties, and now, it's making a comeback:

Alien Breed is making a very long-awaited return. It's something we've always wanted to do, and despite being exceptionally close on a number of occasions to getting the right deal on various platforms, it never worked out. Fortunately sci-fi action is back in fashion, and we look forward to delivering Alien Breed - the details of which may surprise a few people when we cough them out.

We've been in production a few months now, and publishers will get their first glimpse of what we've been up to over in Lyon. I imagine we'll start previewing it to the press in the early part of the New Year and release more information then. I think it's safe to say that it's perhaps one of the larger indie digital titles to date and has pretty high production values. We're happy, too, that whilst it's a totally new title, it shares a ton of spirit and vibe with the original game.

I think a lot of people are expecting a polished port or something, but people will be pleasantly surprised - and no it's not first-person!

GTA 4 Best on the PC?
    - BERJAYA 11 Comments
I've never seen the PC version of the game, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes (not that I'm biased or anything). Games Radar did manage to get a peek at it though and seemed to dig the experience quite a bit. Here's what most impressed them about it:
But the most exciting thing about the PC version of GTA IV isn’t the improved graphics. It’s the new video editor. Imagine an invisible sphere around Niko at all times. Imagine being able to position a camera anywhere in that sphere. Now picture yourself as a film director with an easy-to-use and comprehensive video editing suite that’ll let you create anything from a short music video to full-length feature film. You’ll be able to set markers, track objects, and pan the camera for sweeping long shots. In just a few minutes, Rockstar representatives were able to show us how you could attach the camera to a rocket to get a really cool first-person shot of the rocket hurtling towards a nearby helicopter.

In Grey Matter, You ARE the Bullet
    - BERJAYA 3 Comments
Our buddy Edmund is at it again (co-creator of Aether, Meat Boy,Gish and Triachnid) and has released a new game called Grey Matter (flash).
Its called Grey Matter and it's an "Anti-Shooter", basically a shooter in the genre of Robotron / Geometry Wars, except you don't shoot bullets you are the bullet.

-Run into the exposed brains of incoming attackers to destroy them.
-Killing 3 of the same type of enemy will cause a "trinity attack" killing everything inside it.
-Avoid enemy dangers (flashing bullets, tails, teeth and lazers)

The game's story is left up to interpretation and (like most of my games) vague enough to not matter to those who are just looking for a quick play, but cryptic enough for people to pick it apart and find its deeper meaning.

Bioware Hopes Unique Classes Will Rock The Old Republic
    - BERJAYA 14 Comments
Bioware is banking on players really digging what sort of character classes (each with unique content, it seems) that they can play in Star Wars: The Old Republic:
"We have all these classes, and all these classes have their own content, and all this content connects together as you're playing through the different classes. Now, you're getting to see and understand different parts of the world that you might have not understood previously.

"So, by the time you're playing the third class, you can say, 'Oh, I get that! That's because of such and such.' And you feel smart and you understand the mythos and the world. And hopefully, it will create something that just amazes people and they've never even considered before."

Left 4 Dead Dedicated Server Soon
    - BERJAYA 3 Comments
The dedicated server program for the Left 4 Dead demo is coming sooner rather than later according to CS-Nation:
We'll be releasing the Left 4 Dead dedicated server files prior to the Left 4 Dead demo being released. More details will be sent to the mailing lists when we have them.

There are two things to keep in mind regarding running a Left 4 Dead server:

    1) The CPU load for the Left 4 Dead server will be higher than you're used to for games like TF2. Left 4 Dead has a bunch of A.I. for the zombies, etc., that games like TF2 don't have.

    2) Left 4 Dead uses a new matchmaking system we're developing. We'll be working with the server admin community to make sure the new system operates as smoothly as possible. More details on this later.

    Bringing Demigod to the Masses
    - BERJAYA 5 Comments
Stardock's Brad Wardell, of all people, wrote a developer's diary for Demigod at the RPG Vault. The topic is: How Gas Powered and Stardock are attempting to extend the real-time strategy genre to be more widely accessible.
Demigod is designed to expand the PC market by being extremely accessible to new players while still offering meaty strategy. Let's face it, 2009 is going to be a big year for awesome traditional RTS games, with Dawn of War 2, Starcraft 2 and other big hitters. I think most fans of the genre are salivating in anticipation. So, our aim is to provide a fundamentally new experience within the category.

For example, Demigod involves no construction of buildings. There's no such thing as a build order. Instead, in an arena, combatants seek to capture various objectives marked by flags. These give explicitly stated bonuses like more reinforcements created per minute, stronger units or a more powerful player character... along with dozens of other possibilities. Someone can sit down and understand immediately what's necessary to win.

Quantum of Solace: The Game Review
    - BERJAYA 4 Comments
IGN UK is running the first Quantum of Solace: The Game review. Citing the campaign's extreme brevity and a lack of original ideas, they award Bond's latest 6.9/10, but do praise the rejigged Call of Duty 4 multiplayer mode:

To top it off it's a mercilessly brief game, with the single-player campaign clocking in at little over four hours. Although it at least doesn't outstay its welcome, it will leave many feeling short-changed. Solace can be found in the multiplayer, which is a solid appropriation of Call of Duty 4's unstoppable recipe mixed up with some classic Bond tropes such as proximity mines and the golden gun, but it's not quite enough to save the game from mediocrity.

A true blockbuster of a game, Quantum of Solace is loud, dumb but sadly all-too-forgettable. The Bond licence goes a good way to hiding the game’s lack of ideas and for the four hours the single-player campaign lasts there’s no denying it’s a solid blast, but ultimately there’s better ways to spend your money this autumn.

Call of Duty 5: World At War Nazi Zombie Co-Op Survival Mode Trailer
    - BERJAYA 16 Comments
    Nazis + Zombies + Co-Op + Endless Waves + Flamethrowers + Purchasing System = Instant Win.

Our Zombie game mode is not part of the main story campaign – it is an entirely separate bonus mode for the next-gen versions, which will be available after our credits roll. You can play the mode solo, but I highly recommend playing it with 3 of your friends via Co-Op.

The mode has a fun economy system which allows you to accumulate points, which can be spent on purchasing weapon upgrades, ammunition, and opening new sections of the level to expand your fight as each wave of Zombies grow in difficulty.

    BattleForge Beta Sign-Ups
    - BERJAYA 2 Comments
Next week, a beta for EA Phenomic's card-based RTS will begin. To sign up, go here.

Developed in Ingelheim, Germany, BattleForge is an epic real-time strategy (RTS) fantasy game that combines the elegance of RTS gameplay with the collectability of trading cards in an online environment where friends can play together. BattleForge pioneers strategy gaming with its online multiplayer design and robust community. Players can get in the game by purchasing the title at retail in early 2009 and then take their game online to play with the larger BattleForge community.

"After three years in development, we are very excited to open the game to a mass audience and see how people play. It’s going to be a great process watching players experience the revolutionary concept of creating their own armies and teaming up on a massive scale in RTS," said Volker Wertich, Creative Director.

In BattleForge, players use virtual trading cards to build the perfect army and lay waste to their foes. The cards are the tools of war each representing a unit, building or spell that is conjured directly onto the RTS battlefield. They enable you to customise and combine factions, and play with a unique army of your own design. With no base building and production queues BattleForge players are instantly immersed into fast-paced RTS action.

BattleForge features single-player and cooperative scenarios as well as Player vs. Player ranked duels. Co-op battles are played in teams of two or four, or players can hurl themselves into epic 12 player battles for the greatest rewards. Players must work cooperatively to fulfill the mission and be victorious.

Featuring action-packed co-op and PvP, the ability to build your own army, and robust community features like auction hall, direct trade and in-game mail, BattleForge offers unique RTS gameplay that is easy to learn, but hard to master.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Goes Gold
    - BERJAYA 2 Comments
Second Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion pack goes gold; due out sometime next month:

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir builds on the strong tradition of Dungeons & Dragons computer games by marrying old-school concepts like full party customization and dungeon crawling with new innovations, such as a fully 3D Overland Map feature which allows for free exploration of the non-linear game world. The gripping storyline foreshadows the events that devastate the land of the Forgotten Realms in the Fourth Edition of the Dungeons & Dragons Role-Playing Game, released in June 2008.

The Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Overland Map feature lets players explore the Chultan Peninsula and Sword Coast in a way never before possible in any Neverwinter Nights game. Players will explore well-known locations, like Neverwinter and Crossroad Keep, alongside lesser travelled areas, such as the xenophobic jungle nation of Samarach. Vicious monsters and groups of bandits populate the Overland Map, and the farther from civilization the player roams, the more difficult the encounters become.

The 20 to 30-hour campaign in Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir introduces new classes, including the fearsome Hellfire Warlock and the daring Swashbuckler, as well as brand-new spells, creatures, and playable races. Fans of the compelling multiplayer features of Neverwinter Nights 2 will be able to play through Storm of Zehir's campaign in the online cooperative mode, while modders can use the included editor to create their own campaigns and Overland Maps to share online.

Quantum of Solace: The Game - The First Two Levels
    - BERJAYA 10 Comments
Bond is back, but now his games are developed by Activision and Treyarch, following years of neglect at the hands of evil EA. So, has the switch-up made for a good game? Kinda. The shooty stuff is care-free fun, but the stealth sections completely kill the mood. In addition, all the coolest stuff from the movies is either done in a cut-scene or described through audio dialogue. Or with hideous QTEs.

It's a rental at best, but if you want to play Beenox Studios' PC port, the shops have it on sale from November 4th for around forty Dollars.

    Dante’s Inferno: The Game?
    - BERJAYA 0 Comments
EA's supposedly turning Dante's Inferno into a game, and a movie, and a TV show:

Game, which is expected to launch late next year, involves a journey through the depths of hell. EA hasn’t officially titled it yet, though sources said it’s likely to be called "Dante’s Inferno," as it’s a modern interpretation of the epic poem. Publisher has reportedly cleared that title for usage.

EA declined to comment, as did its reps at UTA, which will broker the movie deal.

By Thursday evening, Universal, Paramount, New Regency and MGM were battling for the property, after Warner Bros. dropped out earlier in the day. Competition underscores the fact that as studios swing for the fences on branded properties with tentpole potential, videogames are becoming the hottest segment of the marketplace, despite their spotty box office track record.

Tears For Spielberg's EALA Development Team?
    - BERJAYA 5 Comments
VG247 believes that Steven Spielberg's EA Los Angeles development team was part of yesterday's casualty list.

Said to be working on an ultra-realistic game that would make people cry, the project has never been officially announced. Steven's team did manage to push out the forgettable Boom Blox, though it didn't sell too well.

Update: The game is still in development.

    Legendary: The Box Review
    - BERJAYA 17 Comments
EuroGamer has slammed Legendary: The Box, a mythological first-person shooter:

Graphically, it's every bit as bad as Turning Point, with character models that are consistently and horribly outdated. I actually made a note that the inclusion of creepy mannequins was a rip-off from Condemned, until I realised that these pale, featureless automatons were supposed to be civilians. There's a character who I assume is supposed to be your sexy female companion, but she looks like Mr Punch and sounds like Margaret Thatcher and I couldn't wait to get far away from her freakish hooked nose and flat, painted, staring eyes.

Legendary is the gaming equivalent of cheap supermarket own-brand beans, but instead of costing eleven pence it costs the same as a prime steak cooked by a top chef. It's a bad, bad game. One of the worst I've played on this generation of consoles, in fact. In that regard, at least, the title is surprisingly accurate.

    Final Score: 2/10

    MotoGP 08 PC Install Bug
    - BERJAYA 3 Comments
Bikers beware! There's a bug in the installer, though it won't cause grief unless you change the install path:

Capcom regrets to inform consumers who have recently purchased the PC version of MotoGP 08 that we have just identified a technical issue with the PC version of the game. This issue only happens with MotoGP 08 PC when installing the game to a custom location on a hard drive; This issue does not affect the default installation, as it only occurs when the destination location has been changed.

To avoid this problem, please do not use the custom installation option to change the destination location for the game.

When the MotoGP 08 InstallShield Wizard reaches the step labeled “Choose Destination Location”, the default installation directory will be displayed (“C:\Program Files\Capcom\MotoGP 08”). Select “Next” to continue to the next step. Do not press the “Change” button.

In the next few days, Capcom will be releasing a patch for MotoGP 08 that will correct this issue. We regret any inconvenience that this may have caused our MotoGP community.

    In Other News...
    - BERJAYA 47 Comments
After being on its death bed the past couple of weeks my old LCD died on my work computer. It was pretty old so I wasn't too shocked when it began to flicker out and lose color. Turning it on and off usually did the trick to fix it, but I'm afraid she passed away yesterday morning. Some good news came out of it though, as I moved my 22 incher I was using on my game rig to this computer, and got a swanky 24 inch Samsung to play games with. Pretty cheap too ($330), as it was an 'open box' item, the only problem is that it didn't have a stand (which the salesperson neglected to mention). Maybe I can order one through the Samsung site? Sigh. Other than that though, it's awesome... 1920 x 1200 rocks!

    Today's spooky Halloween question:

What do you think is the scariest game ever made?
