Dear Neighbor,

My name is Susan Banahasky and I am a Democrat running for Pennsylvania State Representative in District 20. Deciding to enter this race has been the most difficult decision of my life. I've never run for office before, but I decided to step up after receiving a humbling outpouring of support and encouragement from my friends and neighbors.

I would like your help in reforming our government and improving our quality of life.

Like a lot of people in our district, I was outraged by the pay raise, and this year more than ever, we have a great opportunity to bring reform to the legislature. Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation with no law regulating lobbyist activity or requiring disclosure. Pennsylvania legislators are not only paid more than their counterparts in nearly every other state, but there are more of them than 48 other states as well.

Of the 23 legislators in Harrisburg who represent parts of Allegheny County, not a single one of them is a woman.

I am an active community member, and as your Representative, I will actively represent our district. I will bring a fresh, creative voice to the General Assembly. We share many of the same concerns: affordable health care, quality education, and reliable public transportation.

I am a committed, dedicated, ethical and passionate individual with strong people skills. I've worked in a corporate environment as insurance professional for 30 years. I have spent my career as a problem solver and negotiator. I've been a manager, a mentor, trainer, facilitator and a troubleshooter.

I have been actively involved within the community through public service including chairing Art all Night-a grass roots effort to showcase the neighborhood and raising funds for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. I have been on housing committees and have planned many events in Lawrenceville. The Rotary honored me with a Community Service Award for my neighborhood involvement.

Your vote will make a difference. On May 16, you can help me to reform the legislature by giving me your vote.
