EVE Online Fortifies Graphical Leadership With Launch of New Graphics Engine for Trinity Edition
CCP Delivers Next-Generation Graphics Engine Technology to Upcoming Edition of Its Leading Sci-Fi MMOG

REYKJAVIK, Iceland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CCP, one of the worlds leading independent game developers, today announced an upcoming expansion of EVE Online, a popular massively multi-player online game (MMOG). The Trinity expansion will feature a next-generation graphics engine. The release of the new graphics engine aims to fortify the position of the popular MMOG as the market leader in graphical excellence. The expansion will not only enhance the visual impact of every element of the game, but also includes a myriad of content additions. As always, the next EVE Online expansion will be free to all subscribers.

The new graphics engine leverages Shader Model 3.0 technology to enable rich dynamic range imaging, including bloom, shadows and enhanced geometric detail, while maintaining a high frame rate on supporting platforms. Visual changes entail remodeled and retextured ships, stations and stargates.

The Trinity expansion ushers in a host of fresh content and gameplay improvements to EVE Online. Upgraded content includes advancements in combat tactics and battlefield management, additional capabilities that lend greater depth to the pilot experience and multiple new Tech II class ships.

CCP has been on a continuous quest to offer cutting-edge virtual world experiences to engage the most advanced users on the Internet, said Halldor Gujnsson, chief technology officer of CCP. With the launch of our next-generation graphics engine and gameplay improvements, we aim not only to enhance the in-world experience of our dedicated EVE players, but also to capture the interest of new gamers. While EVE Online has been arguably one of the most visually appealing MMOGs, the quality of the images enabled by our advanced graphics engine sets a precedent for visuals that blurs the line between a computer game and a movie.

The EVE Online: Trinity expansion includes:

A new graphics engine:
  • All spaceships, stargates and space stations in EVE Online have been remodeled; each object is comprised of several million polygons and multiple layers of high resolution textures

  • Native Shader Model 3.0 engine

  • Environmental effects, such as shadows and nebula-based lighting models, tie graphical assets into the different solar systems of EVE Online

  • Ground-breaking visual fidelity, which blurs the lines between a game and a movie

Combat advancements:
  • Heat damage attenuation and repair while in space

  • Better drone management capabilities

  • Mid-flight bomb deployment capabilities along forward trajectories

  • Attribute Reassignment Modifier (ARM) scripts to modify bonus attributes of sensor boosters, dampeners and tracking modules

  • Eased transition from rookie to elite pilot with revamped New Player Experience

  • Fleet integration and enhanced management of fleet operations with EVE Voice

Content additions for Player versus EVE (PVE) gameplay:
  • Hundreds of new kill missions and a re-introduction of mining missions

  • Multi-frequency probe for more versatile exploration

  • Faction loyalty points store items

New Tech II ships:
  • Black Ops battleships For undetectable infiltration and covert operations in hostile territory

  • Marauder battleships Optimized for massive damage output to spearhead assaults in enemy territory

  • Suppressor Heavy Interdictor cruisers A more lethal interdictor whose warp-jamming suppression sphere moves with the ship

  • Specter Electronic Attack ships For quick propulsion lockdown and sensor suppression of enemy ships

Availability
EVE Online: Trinity Edition will be released this winter.

  FAT Falls - M.Pire Revolts  [ 4 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
The battle for FAT was supposed to be epic - but it didn't quite turn out that way. The defense by IAC, RaGoon and friends was long, pitched and ultimately bungled. The siege by BoB and Fix was well supplied well planned and well executed. The station in FAT has finally fallen into BoB hands and sovereignty of the system should change after the next downtime. BoB is staged now to really tighten the noose on IAC and AAA.

In other news another former BoB ally has turned against the juggernaut. Here is what Gungankllr, a spokesperson from M.Pire Corp., had to say about BoB's support of their allies...
"M.Pire has had a long history with the Band of Brothers alliance.

When the entirety of Eve was against BoB, we stayed blue.

When we went south to help them in their fight against their enemies, we stayed blue.

When we lost our space against their enemies in the North, we stayed blue.

When we went south to relocate and help them fight against their enemies, they wanted to charge us 6 Billion isk / Corp to live in their space and fight for them.

Wait, what?

See you in space.

Alliance Leader Panel  [ Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
More FanFest events are being planned each day as the day of the party draws near. This time it's a panel of alliance leaders. Check this out:
"We thought a good idea for EVE Fanfest 2007 would be an Alliance Leader Panel. We'd like to hear from anyone who is going to the Fanfest and holds a position in their alliance that would allow them to represent their alliance in this type of panel?

Participation would involve a short introduction of your alliance, history, current situation, future plans and long term goals using a PowerPoint presentation and then about one hour of discussion with six to eight other alliance leaders/representatives.

The execution of this plan is solely based on player participation and thus we are testing the waters to see if the interest is enough to put this in motion. So, reply if you are interested and we will proceed from there to see if this is a viable idea.

Please also note that we will obviously have some sort of system to verify that you are indeed participating on behalf of your alliance.

If you're an alliance leader and plan on coming to the Fanfest, please go to this forum thread and let us know what you think."

The Power Of Two  [ 1 Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
The Power Of Two Special is back! If you've ever wanted a second account, now is the time to do it.
"It's lonely sometimes, in deep, dark space. All those vessels zooming by, going every which way, chattering excitedly with their corp mates or just each other on local, while you're left all alone, your lasers forlornly nibbling away at an asteroid.

Sometimes you wish you had someone there, by your side. Someone who could share in the good and the bad: Pat you on the back after a long day of hauling, clap excitedly when you take down a pirate, and cry for you when you're blown to shreds with a full set of implants. Someone you can trust. Someone you can rely on. Someone you can feed to the gatecampers when you need to make a quick getaway.

We can give you that someone. We can bring that new dimension to your life, that special fluttery moment when you realize there are now two of you going through life's hardships. Together. As a Power of 2.

This offer is good only until the 16th of October 2007, and costs 49.95. After the six months the subscription of your new account will expire but you'll have choice in which manner you want to renew your subscription."

POS Changes  [ Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
In a recent Eve-O post, CCP Chronotis alludes to some interesting changes coming for POS's in Kali 3.

A question was asked about having a structure anchored at a moon with no tower and not being able to remove the structure without destroying it.

Jack Murphy posed the following suggestion...
"Reduce the guns structure from 1,5 mill to 15000 and give them 99% strucutre resitance against every damage typ as long a pos is anchored next to them.

So the guns are still a ass in the pain to destroy completly when a pos is there, and nearly instant dead when the pos is gone."

To which CCP Chronotis replied...
"Its already been put in for kali 3, the HP reduced and the bonus from the tower increased to 0.99. The intention is also to unanchor all structures after the control tower is destroyed."
Hmm...unanchor the structures you say? Now those undefended research POS's are beginning to look juicy...

CCP Games Enhances Role in United States Gaming Industry

Iceland-based MMOG Developer Expands to Tap New Talent Source in Atlanta

CCP Games, one of the world's largest independent game developers, today announced the expansion of its US operations by unveiling its North American headquarters in Stone Mountain, GA. CCP North America will hold a grand opening party at its new office on Friday, October 12, 2007. CCP Games' expansion to North America further exemplifies the gaming industry surge in Atlanta.

EVE Online, CCP's flagship game, is evidence of the company's success in the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) industry, with a current subscription base of more than 190,000 players in more than 80 countries. Currently, 40% of all EVE Online players are located in the United States.

"CCP Games is excited to be at the epicenter of the US online gaming industry," said Mike Tinney, president of CCP North America. "Following the merger of CCP Games and White Wolf Publishing last year, we look forward to expanding our CCP North American team and player base over the course of this year."

In recognition of the growing gaming presence in Georgia, the first Southern Interactive Entertainment and Gaming Expo (SIEGE) will be held October 5 - 7, 2007 at Atlanta's Crowne Plaza Perimeter NW Hotel. CCP Games will join other online gaming leaders to strengthen the Georgia gaming community.

SIEGE is sponsored by the Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) and will showcase the fast-growing game design industry in the South. SIEGE will include a number of special events including game design classes and competitions, gaming tournaments, a job fair, as well as a variety of sessions to discuss online gaming.

"Computer and video games are a nearly $13 billion a year industry in the United States and a nearly $32 billion industry worldwide, according to a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the South represents a significant and growing part of this industry," said Clinton Lowe, chairman of the GGDA. "We organized SIEGE to highlight the industry's presence in the South and further propel game development and design in the region."

CCP North America plans to hire more than 100 new employees for MMOG development and design positions at its Stone Mountain, GA office over the next 12 months. Show attendees and prospects will be able to speak with CCP executives at the CCP booth at SIEGE. CCP's North American headquarters are located at 2075 West Park Place Blvd., Stone Mountain, GA 30087.

Titan Down - FAT Stands - Feyth Abandonded  [ 32 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
Over the weekend, Mercenary Coalition lost their Titain in action around the Deep Catch area. This is a large blow to the effort being given to take the Catch western front. But as someone in the Eve-O forums so eloquently put it, "Ya gotta use em, to loose em". Kudos should be given to MC for putting their Titan right on the front lines.

Rumors from sources inside BoB speculate that the loss of the MC Titan has prompted BoB to abandon the defense of Feyth and redirect all of their efforts into crushing IAC and capturing Catch. The FAT system has become somewhat of a meat grinder for all sides involved and no one can take that kind of beating for very long. With a concerted effort from BoB and MC it is inevitable that Deep Catch will fall.

These same sources have also indicated that some of the "BoB Pet" corporations have begun not paying their dues and that ISK is becoming hard to come by. Again, these claims are unsubstantiated but do come from a reliable source inside BoB.

Name The New Areas  [ 5 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
If you live in one of the newly opened regions of Eve and have an idea for a good name for it - CONCORD may just make you famous...
As reported by the press release found here we are opening applications for the CONCORD naming committee for the unnamed new regions, currently designated as:
  • H3J8-U
  • 6HL8-L
  • VU-WU2
  • 7-KXBJ
  • 87-1CW
  • LQ-OQN
  • S-IGVU
  • G5KW-3

To qualify for membership on the committee the following critea must be met
  • You must have membership of an alliance with sovereignty in one or more of the above regions
  • You must be the alliance executor or be sponsored by said executor
  • Only one applicant from each alliance will be accepted.

To apply you must submit a written application to Ashiro Nakuyama via EVE Mail. If you are not executor then the executor of the alliance must also present a letter of sponsorship thru the same means.

The application must contain your name, your alliances name, a short description and background of your alliance and any other relevant information you might think is pertinent.

We expect to get more applicants than we have seats for and in such a case we will decide entry upon factors such as territorial holdings, level of sovereignty, size of alliance.

Once on the committee you will join your fellow members, as well as several CONCORD delegates, in creating and proposing names for the new regions. Please note that there are stringent procedures in place for CONCORD naming conventions. CONCORD will make the final decision on the naming of the regions and reserves the right to refuse any names which do not meet up to its naming convention and choose its own names if the committee are unable to come up with any acceptable designations.
However, CONCORD will do its utmost to work with the capsuleer members of the committee to ensure that names are met with full participation of those involved.

Catch Western Front Under Siege  [ 12 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
IAC/RaGoon have lost 25S and it's outpost to McBoB. FAT is now under heavy siege and POS's will begin to come out of reinforced Friday after downtime. Things look bleak for the IAC right now as BoB is apparently trying to free MC and Fix for fights elsewhere by throwing a sizable chunk of its offense into bringing down "Deep Catch". Early reports say that cyno jammers are once again online in FAT in a desperate attempt to keep the BoB capital fleet from re-engaging. At the same time IAC are calling in all their markers from anyone they call friends. Could the fall of the Catch western front spell the beginning of the end for the Coalition? Or will an epic stand turn this into the Alliance's Stalingrad? Tell us what you think!

DevBlog : Ambulation - Tactical Map Functions  [ 1 Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE Dev Blog
Eris Discordia's recent DevBlog brings up the possible uses of the Tactical Map...

"Through the course of our work on Ambulation, weve come to realize the potential a Tactical Map could have when it comes to things like war planning, logistics and complex fleet movements. The Tactical Map would be a 3D holographic image of the universe.

The difference between the Tactical Map and the F10 map is that the Tactical Map would allow interaction of multiple people simultaneously - with the expected moderator privileges, obviously. It's a collaborative tool, meant to aid corporations and alliances in dealing with the complexities inherent in tactically coordinating large numbers of people. "

Eve Is Not A Virus!  [ Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: EVE: Online News
Some anti-virus programs are falsely reporting the following files as a virus:
  • RedistD3DXOnly.exe located in the C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\ directory, and
  • stdlib.ccp located in the C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\lib\ directory (normal locations after a default installation).

The AV programs flagging these files as virii include:

  • PCGuard from Virgin Media,
  • F-Prot by Frisk Software,
  • Iolo Antivirus,
  • AT&T; Internet Security Suite, and
  • Verizon Internet Security Suite.

Some of the programs allow the user to add exclusions, that is a safe work around that will allow you to play EVE until the software companies update their virus definitions.

CCP has contacted the first three companies in an effort resolve this false positive, the latter two require support calls be made by customers of their service. If you are a customer of an ISP who has bundled an AV suite into their software and are suffering from this false positive, they encourage you to contact your ISP and inform them of this issue.

CCP does do not recommend disabling AV software in order to play EVE, neither do we.
