Antec Veris Audio/Video Component Cooler

Introduction:

The Veris family is a new line of personal home theater multimedia components made by Antec. Currently, the series contains only five products, but more are expected. Up for review today is the Veris A/V cooler, an ingenious accessory for prolonging the life expectancy of your home entertainment products by keeping your equipment running cool. The cooling comes from two fans, which in turn have two modes, 5.5CFM/22.5dBA and 8.0CFM/28.7dBA. According to Antec, Simply place it on top of your hottest stereo component and let the two speed blowers cool your component while preventing heat from rising to any components you choose to stack on top of the A/V cooler. The sturdy carbon-glass structure with aluminum top deck is the perfect platform for stacking other audio/video components on."

About the Company:

How did Antec become the world's #1 brand of high-performance computer components?

The year was 1986. Starbucks had only a few stores. Moustaches were still cool. The average PC had less memory than an iPod. And in Fremont, California, a little company named Antec was born, dedicated to providing customers with the most reliable, efficient, and high performance computer components. Twenty years later, Antec is a major global provider distributing in over 25 different countries, but the companys vision has not changed: to enable elegant, powerful, and cutting edge computing.

So what can Antec do for you? That depends on who you are. If youre a personal computer user, and youd like to upgrade your existing computer or build a new one, weve got the computer cases, power supplies, cooling fans, lighting components, and accessories that you need. If youre a system builder or VAR, well help you deliver reliable and cost-effective systems to your customers. And if youre a retailer, well help you reach an explosively growing market: namely, do-it-yourself computer users who enjoy building and upgrading their own machines.

Protection

The Antec Veris A/V cooler comes packaged in a small low profile box with a simple carrying handle. The front of the box has a picture of the component cooler and the back gives a brief description of the cooler. The A/V cooler is held secure in foam blocks and the small power supply was in a separate box and held secure in the main box to keep it from moving around and damaging the cooler.

Fan intake

The A/V cooler is nothing more then a flat base that is just under 2" thick with a couple of fans. This flat thin structure is placed in between two heat generating components such as stereo amps and receivers. The idea behind the Veris A/V cooler is to separate the heat generating devices by not allowing the hot air of the lower component to rise into the upper component. Instead the hot air of the lower component is drawn into the two fan intakes and blown out the back of the A/V cooler and away from the upper component.

Cooling the lower DVR

The Antec Veris A/V cooler gets its power from a small plug in AC transformer with a long enough lead to fit anywhere on the entertainment stand. A simple but needed feature is the 3 position switch on the front of the cooler. The switch settings are Low-Off-High and when the fans are on a blue LED illuminates on the front of the cooler. As for fan noise neither the low of high speed settings were noticed when I was in my normal viewing position which is sprawled out on the couch.

Conclusion:

The A/V cooler is nothing real fancy or flashy. It's a simple item that does a meaningful task. We all know that heat is the enemy of electronics and any means to get rid of the excess heat will increase the lifespan of the device. The Antec Veris A/V cooler does this efficiently and quietly.

I used the A/V cooler in between my two Dish DVR's and when stacked on top of each other they do create a lot of heat. While I didn't have a temperature probe in the lower DVR I was able to tell it was working by the fact of being able to feel the heat being blown out the back of the A/V cooler and that the built in fans on the DVR didn't run as fast or not at all. So if you are in the market for a simple yet effective device to cool your entertainment components give the Antec Veris A/V cooler a try. I would like to thank Antec for sending this unit out for VH to review.
