The Honda comparison is awesome btw:
How many Honda users still like their car? Mostly all of 'em! Just because a Mercedes is better doens't mean other people don't like the '"lesser" thing. It does the same but in a less classy way. UIt drives you where you gotta go!
Same for 360/PS3/Wii... They all deliver the same thing to their users: FUN!

yup.....much has to do with ppl's pocket books. I can't afford a Mercedes or BMV. I probably could if I didn't have this video game habbit. I love gaming!! I actually have a honda that I commute with every morning because of gas and I don't want to put too many miles on my c5 vett. It's very expensive to live in Cali atm. Ppl will buy what they can afford. I just thank god for being able to afford my games and toys.....

I like how people are constantly saying the 360 is for hardcore gamers. It's not. Bioshock? It has a unique setting, but its gameplay made me think of a dumbed down System Shock.

As somebody already said, if you're a console gamer then you're a casual gamer. PC games that get ported to consoles always get dumbed down for the console owners. Either the devs. think all console owners are a bunch of dumbasses or console owners really aren't hardcore gamers. I'll let you decide.

Heck, even the RPGs for 360 aren't "hardcore". Mass Effect? Pfffft, old games like Wasteland, Fallout, Arcanum, and Planescape: Torment are way more "hardcore" than any RPG the overrated Bioware has made.

Looks like Metroid took a drop in its 2nd week.
and 360 has top 2 software titles last week.

$249.99 = 1st Place

Compare that to:

LAST PLACE with $499.99 & $599.99

Nintendo's just screwed Sony again!

Now IF the 360 actually MATTERED in Japan, then we might have a closer numbers race.

Don't think that just because the Wii has the most consoles sold it represents the best source of revenue for a 3rd party, that's still the 360!

Really guys... What made most of you such haters??? It's not because you find yourself too good for the Wii that most of the world thinks the same?
And to that dude who claims the Wii sells bad in the US & the UK: check your sources....
Most of the Wii users have or will have two consoles. As goes for me. And I have LOTS of fun with the Wii, I only go for stuff I like. It isn't that much yet, but we'll talk next year this time. When the Wii has been out as long as the 360 now. And offcourse as a gamer I'll ppbly be platying more on the 360 than on the Wii, but I will still love to play it. And so do most of the Wii owners.
You guys have some valid points, but that doesn't mean it's as bad as you consider it. Your opinion won't change the facts....

btw: quite funny how everyone seems to have friends who all sold their Wii's and who all think it sux.... Strange that doens't seem to happen here in non-UK Europe....

I also own a Wii and a 360.. and I only play the Wii right now for its Virtual Console games (me and the wife play Mario Kart 64 on it, she loves that game) other than that the Wii sports thing gets boring after a few plays and there are no real good games I am looking forward to except Mario Kart Wii but thats it. The rest of the games arent looking too good.. I tried that Zelda game and turned it off after 10 boring minutes of cruising around on a lame ass horse with crappy graphics.

The Wii out selling the 360 or PS3 means nothing. People just want to see what its about and its cheap enough to do that. I have both a 360 and a Wii and I play my 360 99% of the time. The Wii just has a whole novelty thing going for it right now. Looking back I wish I would have used that $250 on something else.

u just gave the answer there, people wanna know what the wii is about and it is cheap...but no one wanna know what the 360 is about since they know already(fps a goo blablha and hardcore this and that) and it is relatively expensinve...i've been saying that MS ideas of yelling hardcore on top of their lung since the announcement of the x360 will hurt them..i dont mean that the 360 should have bad games like 95% of the wii library right now, but they should have atracted all kinda gamers from the get go instead of alienaticng them and nintendo saw those people as customers and the results are here but for as much i like my 360 and rarely play my wii( my son has it now), i think MS will pass again in 12 days when halo3 comes out and all the bombs for this fall and winter season from september to february 2008...people stop looking for excuses, the wii is the leader, accept it an move on, keep on gaming, it wont kill u..actually i rather have nintendo there than dead...

The wii wont sell for as long as the 360 it will feel old fast.

wii is cheap and fast to make as it is a game cube with a faster CPU that runs about 750Mzh.

The old xbox as better specs than the wii the only way you can think the wii is next gen is if your last game system was a PS2.

The wii may out sell the 360 world wide but not in the UK or in the US.

All the people i know with wiis will only buy copied games for it.

NIntendo should stick to making toys for kids.

People will learn not to but from nintendo again.

PC + 360 willl always out number the wii.

I dont think MS is trying to compete with the Wii, They are competing with the PS3, MS only lowered the price of the 360 after Sony lowered the price of the PS3.

MS recognizes that the Wii is targeted for certain audience.
MS is going after the crowd that are on the fence on whether to purchase a 360 or a PS3.

People that own the Wii and only the Wii were NEVER going to buy a 360 or PS3 or a highend videocard and CPU upgrade for the 2yr old PC they already have..

Good for them. Bless every soccermom that buys a wii for their twelve year old and keeps another kid off of Live.

I just want to know when they are going to stop calling the 360 and the PS3 "Next-Gen"? The XboX720 (or whatever code name it has today) that's being built in some secret lab under a mountain somewhere is the only thing that should have the "Next-Gen" moniker attached to it nowadays.

@ antcool:
You are right on spot. I have a Wii and Im buying a HDTV with a 360 soon. And Im gonna have a blast with it. But all the Wii-bashing is pathetic and extremly fanboyish. It doesnt have lots of top-games at the moment and the hardware isnt as next-gen as the rest , but last-gen is also a huge exagerration, since it can double the Cube anyday IF the developers put in some effort. You can read the remarks by Factor 5 on the internet or just simply take a look at all the Brawl, Galaxy and Prime trailers.
Its like you put it: Its different and because many of you dont like it you make assumptions about facts that would be correct in YOUR case. But youre still talking about people who think different than you: they bought it and theyre having fun and the Wii is selling much more games than you think. Its also a fact that the gameplay of some multiplatform games is the most fun with Wii (Simpsons, Potter 5, Lego Star Wars, Tiger Woods too bad its the only NONline title by EA- for example) .
So it comes down to this: you dont like it fanboys: thats youre absolute right. But the facts are there: it sells, people like it and by this time next year therll be much more exciting stuff on the Wii. Its here to stay :)

umm the Wii does not FORCE the 360 to do anything because the Wii is simply not even close to being in the same league........in essence I'd like to sum up everyones comments "who cares". The Wii is innovative and fun and i've played it and yet i'm still borderline on wanting one as I doubt I would play it much there simply aren't enough games to keep me intrested in the machine.

Oh for crying out loud stop whining. Some of you guys are starting to sound ridiculous. No 'Hardcore', or 'Real Games', give me a break. The wii is different, period. It's no less a gaming machine than any other.

Nintendo has proven, with the ds and now the wii, that there is a market for games which have a different type of control input. Does it realy matter if they do well, which they are doing, even if you don't like those type of games?

I for one have all three consoles, and whilst the 360 suits me better most of the time, I can't play wii tennis on it. And wii tennis is fun. I also know plenty of people who won't touch the 360 pad but who clamour for the wiimote. That is real and undeniable. It's not about the wii being worse or better than the 360, just different. And there's no reason why both can't do well side by side (I think people are over panicking if they think that developers are about to flee the 360 for the wii- the kind of developers you want producing games are the ones who want to produce games for your type of system, and there's a tonne of those types of developers for the 360).

It's like some of you guys would get upset if chocolate sales overtook 360 because then all the developers would go off and make chocolate instead! Calm down!

only an imbecil or a blind fanboy would have doubted it, most of us knew long ago that the wii will surpass the x360 in sales, it is cheaper and attract everyone and their grannies in casual gaming...but the x360 is doing great and maybe should lower the price and up the quality of the console cus it is kinda stupid to be past when u had a 1 year lead on the competition!!

Kudos to Nintendo! I'm actually glad to see them back on top..it's about time! Manhunt 2, Super Mario Galaxy, and SSB: Brawl are all going to be killer! With the high console slaes of Nintendo, developers will start to realize they have a chance to really make new innovative games on the Wii, rather than porting old games and tacking on Wii controls. I really hope Nintendo does start a revolution like they intended to. I love my Wii...not as much as my 360...but you can get a room full of hot girls to play Wii all day...toss on the 360 and say bye-bye to them. What console in the past has actually captured the attention of females? Exactly. All you fanboys really should quit whining about this and taking it personally like you work for MS...it's not like MS doesn't have enough money as it is now. Just be happy we live in such a great era of gaming and enjoy what is out! = ]

Again..Kudos to Nintendo

That's all fine and good, if true, that the Wii is out-selling 360. I just wish to hell they'd quit labeling the Wii as a "next-generation" console. I realize there are fanboys who will say "why yes, it IS a next-gen console, but they only do so because they want to thump their chests and act like they're something special for having one.

Again, the Wii is not in HD, it's processing power comes nowhere near the 360 or PS3, and 3rd party developers are treating it like the plague because it's impossible to create their visions for games on such a weak system. The only thing that separates it from 360 or PS3 at all is it's unique controller/control scheme. That's it! It's fun and different, and deserves credit for what it is, but it's in no way, shape, or form a "next-generation' console in the sense of what hard-core gamers are looking for. Deny it, and curse me all you want, but you know it to be true.

Let the casual gamers and party-goers have their Wii. Us true gamers will stick to actual "next-gen" systems and games.

@Lightflare -

System Shock and Deus Ex? Are you kidding? You're talking about games from '94, '99 and 2000. Deus Ex (Not IW), SS and SS2 are a joke compared to a game like BioShock, as much as it is inspired by SS. Turn Auto-Aim OFF!. First option I look for when buying a game. If you're going to go back in time, why not mention H-L, blows all three of those games away as well. From a console standpoint the 360 is the closest thing to PC gaming, which is why it has more of a "hardcore" label. I'll be the first to admit that both Gears and Halo are extremely casual, but 360 slowly but surely is going to get some of the more 'hardcore' shooters you see on PC. Look at T.F., that has to count for something.

Once again, GJ Nintendo. ;)

All of you making fun for "Wii being for casual gamers"; Well, I hate to break it to you, console gamers ARE casual gamers, and have been since the Atari2600. Casual gamers have always made up the core console user base because guess what, us 25 - 35 year old gamers now have kids, have game playing friends who have kids, who have neighbors that have kids, and so on , and so on... Now is the time to appeal to the casual gamer more than ever.

I'm not saying that "hardcore/mature" games are not an absolute blast to play, nor is LIVE an unwelcome addition/compliment to the console world, but MS and it's supporters (online gaming sites included) are going wrong with their PC-gaming approach and praise for online-only multiplayer gaming.

The fools are the game "makers" themselves into believing that cutting offline multiplayer components in favor of online (360 and now PS3) is the "way to go" nowadays. Sorry PC/online dudes, with only 2 out of 24 million XBOX1 LIVE subscribers, and now the success of the Wii is proving that online play is no substitute for playing in a room full of buds and family for the casual console gamer...

game sales say otherwise. when wii/ps3 sell more games than 360 then you can say its a casual console. wii is little closer to it, but still far from being considered hardcore console. maybe just maybe the wii60 movement is getting around to everyone.

Why the hell does everybody keep saying that the 360 is a console for hardcore gamers? It has no hardcore games! Gears of War? Halo? Those are generic shooters for casual gamers. You want a shooter for the hardcore gamer, play System Shock or Deus Ex 1. They require the player to do more than just shoot at enemies with support from auto-aim.

The 360 is no more "hardcore" than the Wii. The 360 is being outsold; get over, fanboys. Stop saying all of these petty excuses.

You can say the Wii is overhyped and a fad but it took the top spot because it is innovative (sort of) and more importantly it cost way less than the competition.

My deepest bow to nintendo for being able to market and sell the inferior system.

But I feel sorry for the idoits that purchased it instead of xbox 360. I'm not a fanboy of any console but if ppl can't see that the games on the xbox 360 are beyond the wii games then they deserve to play that wii. (except for the ppl that can't afford the costly systems).

one thing is clear.........most ppl don't own or can't afford an hdtv with todays economy. Things will change once everyone has a hdtv in their homes. It would be a sin if I plug my wii to any of my Hdtv's. Crap, It didn't even came with component cables, which really tells me that the system is marketed to non-hdtv owners right out of the box. And if you wanted them, you have to buy them from Nintendo site?? wtf......same thing for the cube.......

On another note, I wouldn't buy my 7 year old son a $400-600 dollar system with $60 games.......that thing would have more than three red lights flashing for sure. I buy him all used games because he doesn't take care of them right.

and thats one of the reason why its not selling that well.. not everyone can afford a hdtv.

my friends would have gotten one by now if they could afford a HDTV to go with it.. same as me i only got it after spending a freakin $2500 on a 32" lcd tv on launch of the 360.. theres really no point getting one without a HDtv..

lol all these comments coming from xbox fanboys who obviously only focuses on the world of 360s.. do research before making pathetic comments. I think the 360 has had enough time to lead and pwn.. no excuse to be beaten when its been out the market a year before the competition!

and im doubting halo3 make much of a difference... bet all the hardcore people waiting for halo3 already have a 360.. why? because they bought one to play Gears of war already.. my point is theres more than enough quality games out on the 360 to temp the "hardcore" hd whor3s to have a 360 by now.

but again lets wait till halo3 comes out in 2 weeks.. i cant predict the future.. and im sure the 360 will get a spike in sales for a month and a bit.. but jus gut feeling wont impact much on the wii sales.. must inform the uninformed wii is getting galaxy and smash brawl a few months after halo3.

"If you ask me, nothing on the XBOX 360 is for hardcore gamers, except for a couple of XBLA titles."
"This gen as a whole is one big dissapointment."

Couldn't disagree with you more. Forza for example can be hooked up to 3 widescreen HD tv's to project the windshield and side windows and coupled with a racing wheel and paddle shifters and true surround sound, is pretty damn hardcore.

16 player coop with GRAW2 and clans is pretty hardcore.

Halo 3, Mass Effect and CoD4 are going to be hardcore in my opinion.

My system for which I game on, is well over $6,000...if thats not hardcore gaming, then I don't know what is.

But comparing the Wii to the 360 you could either say the 360 is for gamers and the Wii is for everyone...or the Wii is for gamers of all types and the 360 captures those that are "serious" gamers.

i have all three machines, the 360 has really stood out for me from the other two

the PS3,i admit lookslike it could get better, and i am looking forward to FF13 and MGS4...but it still hasnt the back catalogue of the 360,and the 360 has still got some fantastic titles to come as well...mass effect being on the top of my list

the Wii,is more of a console for having your friends round...and as i am a lonely bastard,it doesnt fair much for me...i have had all the nintendo machines and have enjoyed them all.....except the Wii,out of the 3 it is the most dissapointing.

They dont include R&D in those costs. Wii spent millions on R&D for the wimote and some analysts say it will take over 10 million units to recover this. Though they are well on their way to this mark

Also, why, last gen, were things like Madden, Halo, GTA, and such, chastized as "titles for casuals", but this gen, they're used as examples of "hardcore games".

I god damn hate it when people say one group of gamers is more of a real gamer group than the other.

If you ask me, nothing on the XBOX 360 is for hardcore gamers, except for a couple of XBLA titles.

Same goes for the PS3, and the Wii.

This gen as a whole is one big dissapointment.

No variety. No risks. Most everything good, looks the same... and longer development times and development expensive has greatly decreased my enthusiasm for a whole lot of things.

I'd honestly say ---
Unless you absolutely must have HD visuals, and absolutely love multiplayer above all else, you're best sticking with a PS2, until a new system becomes the new PS2.. because one sure as hell hasn't yet.

Wrong. The Wii is sold at a profit. The DS is also sold at a profit. Nintendo is the only company that does that.
They did it last gen also.

I'm still not going to buy one but good for them. They certainly needed a hit after the N64 and Gamecube.

Bleh, typo...

"I don't think Nintendo has never produced a console that didn't sell for a profit."

Should say "I don't think Nintendo has EVER produced a console that didn't sell for a profit".

Not true, Nintendo is actually making a profit on each Wii sold. I don't think Nintendo has never produced a console that didn't sell for a profit.

Bottomline, it's all about the PRICE. Casual gamers and parents are the sole reason the Wii is in the lead sales-wise. They see these stupid "We Would Like To Play" commericals and see how cheap the Wii is compared to the 360/PS3 and opt to go the cheapo route when purchasing a new console. They just see them all as "NEW CONSOLES" and pick the lowest price system. Most parents don't even know the difference (spec-wise) between the 3 systems; they just see the lower price of the Wii.

I will pick up a Wii for my children when it hits like $129.99 but until then I'm not spending $250 on a subpar, under-spec console.

gamestation2000, Nintendo doesn't sell the Wii at a loss like the other console makers, they make a profit on every Wii sold.

Most people are lot that smart that why they buy a wii the xbox is for real gamers.

If the next xbox is not next gen it wont bother me at all because PCs will always improve because its the only way ATI will keep making money etc.

I will be moved on from games we know today online worlds will be the next big thing. with games in them.

I am going to start work on virtually worlds again soon but this time i am ready with so many amazing ideas.

Oneday people will live for days at a time in my worlds.

My VR worlds will be part real life and VR you could walk in to a football game that is really going on and see it all in VR.

VR worlds is going to take over from games you will seee.

I'm not trying to flame with this comment, but I honestly wonder how long it will maintain the lead considering the juggernaut is less than 2 weeks away...I give Nintendo 2 weeks...

Too bad its software sales is how they make money. You could even say that the Wii is putting Nintendo in debt as they lose money every time one is purchased (just like all the other consoles).

I have paid for at least 20 games by now for the Xbox 360 and still have only purchased Zelda for the Wii and I don't see me get any other game for the Wii any time soon. Still playing Bioshock and Skate just came out and Halo is less than 2 weeks away and then there's CoD4, Mass Effect and Assassins Creed...and that is ONLY naming the big blockbuster titles that are a couple of months out.

Wii = party system for ages 2-90 (gimmicky system that I havent turned on in months)

Xbox 360 = Ultimate games from gamers to ultimate gamers.

The Wii makes me Yawn!

Pretty amazing but I still won't buy a wii because I know I won't play it longer than 2 weeks. I would probably play a PS3 a little more but not much. But I play my 360 for hours each and every day. That's what I want in a system.

Pave way for more mini-game gimmicky peice of shat games to hit the market to appease low-brow casual 'gamers". Nintendo wii will slow down eventually due to the lack of great games that target each genre (especially third party games) and the unfavorable aging of the hardware and graphics. Eventually the novelty of the controller will wear off for most. The Wii has half the attach rate as the 360. Nintendo wii might have more cheap consoles sold worldwide but the owners are not buying much games and games need to be sold to support the game developers whose name aren't Nintendo or Nintendo. Game sales are key, not console sales unless greater console sales leads to greater game sales. The nintendo wii can have twice as many wii's sold as the 360 but if twice as many games are being sold for the 360 then the developers and MS are making more profit then Nintendo. Wii sports might be fun for drinking games, but casual gamers don't buy a lot of games as we all know, the hardcore gamers who buy several games a year are the lifeblood of the industry.

go 360!

I have a Wii and 360. I own around 15 games for the 360 and literally just 1 for the Wii (Zelda). I do plan to buy the new Metroid though. So make that 2 vs 15. I the Wii for web browsing from my couch more than to play games. So, it does have its uses!

Well duh! It's the least expensive new console. Most people will buy 200 dollar crap instead of 400 dollar quality. And, too bad the Wii doesn't have any good games. And yeah, that includes Metroid Prime...if anyone has seen it, they can tell you it has the same enemies repeated over and over...what fun is that?

hey i think the wii is great, i would take the wii over ps3 any day, i love my 360 so much, right now, i think we should be more conserned with how ps3 is doing, pay attention to them, they are our competition, they are the ones we have to beat, not nintendo. If sony beats microsoft then we will loose our exclusives that arnt 1st party
