WTS: Fully Geared Rogue for $9710  [ 13 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
For mere chump change, a European WoW player spent 7000 Euros ($9709.70) for perhaps the best geared Rogue in Azeroth. This character had both of Illidan's Legendary Twin Blades and four out of five pieces of Tier 6. Unfortunate for the buyer, the account no longer appears accessible since September 3rd. While no official word has been made, most speculate that Blizzard brought out the ban-stick.

Upcoming Haste Rating Changes  [ 4 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Drysc made a rare appearance over on the Rogue forums this week to explain the reasoning behind the haste rating changes scheduled for patch 2.2. Melee haste has been reduced in effectiveness, while spell haste has been increased.
I'll try to answer in my own words, I know this has been a large complaint from the rogue community and I've only just recently gained information about the reasoning for the change myself.

Our baseline melee stat is Attack Power, it's the stat that we use as a benchmark in which we compare all other melee stats. Haste was at about a 1:1 in relation to AP at base levels, and it scales a whole lot better. So in large quantities haste was easily overcoming AP, and trouncing all other melee stats. While it's not bad for it to be a strong stat, we don't want it to become THE stat over AP. In fewer words it's a quintessential nerf: it was too good.

In the caster case, it was difficult for us to judge just how haste would affect casts as it varies so dramatically from player to player, class to class, and even spec to spec. Originally when it was nerfed we were sort of anticipating it being required, but we're just not seeing the large use of sustained cast-time oriented spells we thought we would, and it's being brought back up to compensate.

Elekk and Hawkstrider PvP Mounts  [ 4 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Currently battleground marks can be used to purchase PvP mounts of each race. However when the Burning Crusade was added, Blizzard left out the Blood Elf and Draenei mounts from the PvP rewards. Bornakk had the following to say:
We do plan to add the Elekk and Hawkstrider mounts as PvP rewards in a future patch.

For clarification, as Taurens can't use the in-game Hawkstriders, I would not expect them to be able to use the PvP version. This has not been finalized though and we will have to wait for the mount to be implemented for further details.

WoW is a Target for Money Laundering  [ 6 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Internet security company Symantec is warning that virtual worlds like Second Life and World of Warcraft are being targeted by organized criminals to launder money and spread key loggers and ID harvesters. CNet's Ken Lewis posted an article today about organized crime and World of Warcraft.
A criminal enterprise could open several thousand MMOG accounts. Each could be used to trade with other players in the purchase or sale of in-game assets, the funds from which would ultimately be withdrawn from the accounts. Since thousands of accounts may engage in millions of transactions, each with small profits or losses, it would be difficult to trace the true source of the funds when they are withdrawn. These transactions can be conducted worldwide without the oversight that typically accompanies international bank remittances.

Interview with VP - "The State Of Blizzard's Union"  [ Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Gamasutra was fortunate enough to catch up with Senior Vice President Frank Pearce, one of the three founders of the original Blizzard, to discussed the state of Blizzard's union in 2007, the next steps for the firm's MMO and RTS franchises, and just what else they might be working on in the mysterious back rooms of their Southern California HQ.
There's a lot of great stuff out there, and a lot of good stuff on the horizon. Certainly the Warhammer Online game has a lot of potential, Age of Conan, that looks like it has potential. There's some good stuff out there inbound so we don't spend a lot of time dwelling on what other people are doing. Its more important that we feel that we're doing right by our customer base, regardless of what other people are doing.

Official WoW Guide Updated: Ogri'la Tips  [ 1 Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Once thought mere legend, the Ogre plateau of enlightenment is indeed real, and those who prove their worth may find much to occupy themselves in the hidden sanctuary of Ogri'la. Level 70 players are able to assist the ogres of Ogri'la in their battle with invading forces and engage in a selection of one-time and daily quests. The Outland faction has much to offer an enterprising player in search of enlightenment - and perhaps also those with more material rewards in mind. Blizzard has updated their World of Warcraft Guide with a new page on gaining reputation with Ogri'la.

Utgarde Keep Map from Games for Windows  [ Comment BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News - Wrath of the Lich King
Taken directly from WoWWiki:
Utgarde Keep (pronounced oot-guard) is the first dungeon hub appearing in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. It is located on the shores of Lake Cauldros in the Howling Fjord of Northrend.

Utgarde will be inhabited by the Vrykul, a Viking-like race bent on proving their strength to the Lich King, who will raise the most worthy of their warriors to serve him beyond the grave. Therefore, it can be expected that this instance will feature at least some Undead.

The second wing, Utgarde Pinnacle, will be a 5-man instance for level 80 players.
WoWWiki recently uploaded a map taken directly from last month's Games for Windows magazine.

Voice Chat Launch Ramp Up  [ 32 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Drysc prepares us for the upcoming 2.2 patch that will include voice chat features:
In the upcoming patch we will be introducing voice chat, which allows players to talk to each other in-game with the use of a microphone. To ensure that we provide the quality play experience were committed to, we will be ramping up the voice chat feature in multiple stages. Currently we are scheduling voice chat to be available on patch day for a limited number of realms. While all realms will still receive the 2.2 patch, and all the content and changes therein, only some realms will have voice chat enabled at the start. We plan to then enable voice chat for the remaining realms the following week. This ramp up release will help us to test the voice chat feature in a live realm environment before enabling it on all realms.

To read more about the upcoming Voice Chat feature, click here.

The initial set of realms that will have voice chat enabled on patch day are Aerie Peak, Altar of Storms, Alterac Mountains, Andorhal, Anetheron, Anvilmar, Archimonde, Arygos, Black Dragonflight, Blackwing Lair, Dalaran, Dalvengyr, Deathwing, Demon Soul, Dentarg, Doomhammer, Duskwood, Executus, Gnomeregan, Haomarush, Icecrown, Jaedenar, Kel'Thuzad, Khadgar, Lethon, Mal'Ganis, Norgannon, Onyxia, Scilla, Sentinels, Steamwheedle Cartel, Tanaris, The Venture Co, Thrall, Turalyon, Uldaman, Undermine, Ysera, Ysondre and Zuluhed.

All other realms are scheduled to have voice chat enabled the week following the patch release week.

World Series of Video Games Canceled  [ 23 Comments BERJAYA ]
Print News | Category: World of Warcraft News
Effective immediately, Games Media Properties will no longer produce the World Series of Video Games. The remainder of the 2007 season in Los Angeles, London and Sweden is canceled.
The World Series of Video Games launched with the goal of expanding interest and participation in competitive gaming. Over the course of two seasons, we have been honored by the strong support the community has shown in attending our festivals, and watching our competitions online and on television-- all in record-setting numbers. We have been grateful for the generous support provided by Intel and other sponsors since our inception.

However, the continuing challenges of securing adequate revenues to sustain the production of the WSVG's large scale events and television programming, in a very crowded field of competitive gaming leagues, has prompted us to re-evaluate our direction as an organization.

Unfortunately, the decision is to cancel the remainder of the WSVG season, as we shift our focus solely to growing our online advertising network of websites, which currently reach seven million users each month.

We are proud of the accomplishments and memorable entertainment we have provided through the World Series of Video Games. While we are sorry that this news will disappoint our fans and players, we are deeply appreciative that we have had the opportunity to contribute to the growth of eSports.
Read the full press release article here.
