The Specialists' Final Countdown
14:32 | by MarmaladeMan The Specialists has this to report on it's upcoming 3.0 release, apparently right around the corner:
It's been a long time coming and at times it looked like we'd never see this day, but we are finally here. TS3 is done and will be released this weekend.
It looks good, the final RC push lasted a little longer than expected while some kinks were smoothed out and gameplay tweaks were discussed, adjusted and discussed again. I say discussed. It was more of a very lengthy argument punctuated with new releases and more arguments. Still, the miraculous seems to have occurred and most people seem pretty happy with the version thats been declared final.
Gearbox is Hiring Again
14:32 | by David Shipley
The upcoming Aliens FPS must be heavy on the manpower, 'cause
Gearbox sent out another
request for more level designers, lead artists, technical
artists, and programmers on their Web site. Check out their
Jobs
section for more info. Maybe you can contribute
to this upcoming game.
Mark Rein Smashes UT3 Release Schedule Rumors
13:41 | by RaptoR
You might have heard elsewhere that the Xbox 360 version of UT3 had been delayed, making the game a "timed exclusive" for the PS3. We hit up our favorite Vice President of Epic Games about the rumors, which received a hearty stomping. Here's what Mr. Rein had to say:
We have not finalized a SKU plan, or a release plan, for Unreal
Tournament 3. The release date speculation in their story is pure
nonsense of course as are all 'published' release dates for UT3 at this
point. The statement that "their past comments regarding Sony's next-gen
system haven't been exactly glowing" is complete rubbish. We were on
stage showing UT3 at the original launch of the PS3 - in fact it was the
first EVER public demo of anything running live on PS3. We've supported
the platform from day one the same way we've supported Xbox 360 from day
one. People were impressed by what we have done so far on Xbox 360 and I
think they'll be equally impressed with what we will do on PS3 and PC.
We're the cross-platform-happy company and it's all going to rock :)

It has now been confirmed that a public beta of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is on the way. The closed beta has gone extremely well, and now they want to give more people the opportunity to provide feedback on the game. The Public Beta will be offering up 60,000 slots. This way they will be able to test more hardware combinations, graphics cards, drivers, etc. The public beta will consist of the map "Sewer". A fixed number of beta slots are being set aside for Fileplanet subscribers, so if you already have a FilePlanet subscription, youre in the front of the queue. More details coming soon! Remember to visit Planet Quake for all of your Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars needs!

Gearbox Comments on Alien FPS
13:11 | by David Shipley
On their forums, Gearbox Associate Producer "Wieder"
commented on some
people's pessimism about the Aliens FPS. "I find
your lack of faith disturbing," he said, then explained
what huge fans they are of the Alien genre.
"Wait for us to release
more info before you write it off or make assumptions. We
want to make this game because we love Aliens. This is a
passion project for the people involved and I know many
of them would like to work on it even if it never made any
money. Now we have every intention of making money...hopefully
if everything goes well loads of money. But we want that
to be because it meets and exceeds the expectations of the
Aliens fanbase (of which we are card-carrying members)."
Wieder is cool. Not too friendly, though. I met him once and
he didn't take my open robe and leopard-print thong as proper
evening ware. He was like, "Please put your clothes back
on befor--bluueeeaahhhh!"
