March 19, 2007 - We here at IGN love all sorts of media: Blu-ray, HD DVD, and... heck, even good ol' fashion standard DVD tickles our nerd glands. That's why we've decided to go beyond the call of duty and bring you a weekly look at the hottest discs (from every format) hitting the market each and every week, just so you're not the lone kid on the block that forgot to pick up that awesome release. We've been there. It's not pretty.
So without further ado...
ERAGON
Not one, not two, but three releases are due for the latest fantasy novel sensation to hit movie theaters. If the stunning look of the Blu-ray release isn't enough to make you weak in the knees-region, the 2-Disc Special Edition will drag you along with a swift tail whip.
ROCKY BALBOA
The legendary boxing epic receives the best left hook it's seen since at least the third installment. If you're more into the thought of seeing Sly Stallone knock guys out in high definition, then the Blu-ray release might be your thing. Just don't pay close attention to Stallone's high def flab.
BLOOD DIAMOND
This one sports a couple of Oscar-nominated performances set atop the horrifying tale of the African diamond trade and the things that happen to those involved, hence the name (clever, eh?). If you're looking for something else to make you realize how crazy this world is, check out the 2-Disc Special Edition with the phenomenal documentary, Blood on the Stone.
BIG FISH
Tim Burton's visual landmark is taken to its limits on this Blu-ray release of the 2003 fairytale heart warmer, about a dying man who reflects on his life with little white lie after little white lie. Looking for an easy way to weep tears of joy and sadness simultaneously? Watching this eye-poppin' footnote of Burton's career in Blu-ray might do the trick.
RE-ANIMATOR
Anchor Bay has decided to unleash the beauty of Re-Animator as a part of their fantastic Anchor Bay Collection line, which will take an in-depth look at the film in its extensive special features. The cult classic has received a few DVD releases before, but this will be the one to properly serve the following it's spawned.
