Some weekend fun for ya:
I wanted to share some news that the readers of VE3D might find interesting. I [Jeff] am a researcher at the MIT Media Lab, and a game industry veteran who previously developed the award winning AI systems for F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever 2. I am working on an exciting Game AI research project that requires the participation of over 1,000 game players.
More information is available on my project website here:

Bungie Weekly Update 03:11 am

This week, Bungie talks about Halo Wars, Halo 3 Campaign mode, how the water is flowing, the Halo 2 map pack and oh-so much more. Here's a sip: The programmers and artists are playing around with the properties of our water as it applies to objects in the game. So here's an example I watched this morning, which may or may not make it into the final game, but it's there right now. If it does something stupid, we'll yank it - but here goes. If you die, in deep-ish river water in Valhalla, you'll float briefly downstream until your Mjolnir armor becomes waterlogged and you sink to the bottom. You'll tumble down the small-ish slopes with the flow of water, and make for some amazing death animations.

The chaps at Eurogamer have some impressions of Turtle Rock's upcoming co-op Zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead:
When a company like Valve tells you it thinks it has the next Counter-Strike on its hands, you pay attention. Counter-Strike was - and is - an incredibly long-lived global online gaming phenomenon, despite originating as a shoestring amateur mod of the original Half-Life. Valve turns championing the little man into big business, so when the Seattle super-developer invited us to visit and play the fruits of its collaboration with Turtle Rock Studios - a tiny team responsible for AI bots and map design in recent versions of Counter-Strike - we jumped at the chance.

1Up has a preview of the games they most want in 2007. Catagories include: Wii, PS3, 360, PC, PSP, DS and PS2. Here's the poop on Crysis: Why should I care? OK, so you're not a graphics whore. There's more to this one than a pretty face. For example, your character boasts an ultra-high-tech nanosuit that confers powers bordering on the superhuman. You'll also get an array of 32-person multiplayer matches that make use of the unique tactical features of the suit. And of course, you'll get the "sandbox" map builder to create your own content.

The girls over at the G-Spot conjured up a hands-on preview of The Witcher, a sharp looking super-duper enhanced Neverwinter Nights engined RPG from CD Projekt: Overall, the game seems to be a promising action RPG as CD Projekt looks forward to a release later this year. What's clear is that the world of The Witcher is a complex place, with real-world themes and consequences for your actions and decisions. These themes, such as racism and persecution, as well as the political backdrop, should add some real meaning to your choices, while the brooding atmosphere will hopefully help emphasize an engaging story. Check in with GameSpot for more coverage on The Witcher between now and the game's release this fall.

Shacknews shot up a hands-on preview of that ever-popular single player beta of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that's been making the rounds:
While I have yet to delve into S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s multiplayer modes, the hours I've spent exploring, looting, and questing in the single player game have been very fun and involving. The world is so huge, its ecology so dynamic and expansive, that you will often times be more caught up just looking around than you will furthering the story. For those of you interested in stalking with and against your friends, I'll be back next week with hands-on impressions of the game's multiplayer modes.
Age of Conan Necromancer Preview 02:47 am

FunCom updated the Age of Conan website with a class preview of the Necromancer. Evil and twisted Necromancers bring the cursed and the dead back from beyond the mortal realm to do their bidding. Looking down on the likes of the Demonologist for their reliance on bargaining for power, the Necromancer requires no such crutch, relying instead on his own mastery of death to dispose of his enemies.
The true power of the Necromancer is two fold, with a mastery of unholy magic, the Necromancer animates the dead and corrupts the living, while this is complimented by their ability to marshal the freezing winds of death itself and deal devastatingly cold attacks on those who would cross their path. Thus the icy touch of death is instilled in everything the Necromancer does and they have a wide variety of spells and foul magics to call upon.

Andy should be on his way to the USA from Germany later today via a big-ass jet plane. Don't ask me how they stay in the air. THEY'RE TOO DAMNED HEAVY TO FLY! Just kidding!
Anyhoo, I'm still playing Supreme Commander. Fun stuff. The single player campaigns get better and better. They all follow the same timeline and basic premise, but the goals of the different factions are different. So, in some missions where you defended in UEC, you're attacking, or vice versa. I dunno, I like it. Tons and tons of playtime. I'd say 40+ hours, at least.
Today's question is from Mike Stone, who asks:
Which genre do you feel is most lacking in the PC market?
